Yep, it's one of the permanent unlocks too. So it doesn't take up any of your slots, it's just there. You have thermal and can spot enemies too, very useful, but needs co-ordination. Though I have taken down a chopper with a guided missile when one of the good randoms jumped on the third seat at Caspian.

Caz
What do the others do?

Had a match tonight where 2 engineer teammates were spray painting male parts on the wall at the spawn point with the repair torch. Grrrr

haha lol, warzone yobbery. not on is it :)

When ever I use the MG36 this happens.

IMAG0034.jpg

Thats how it looks when my soldier holds it.

^^ That only happens to the MG36 and the First DLC sniper, and it only happens on the B2K maps. If you use it on the original maps (Seine, Firsestorm, etc.) It works fine. I don't know when it's going to be fixed, but I'm sure it will.

Ill be off and on for the next 8 hours. No mic because the signal where I'm at will boot me if I'm using it. :(

I'm surprised that glitch still isn't fixed after over two months.

Oh dang it, I took the BF3 survey today in my email, and I forgot to mention that 👍

Sounds like something I need to get my hands on asap for squading up, that being said I usually end up solo in a tank driving around the outskirts or maps setting up ambushes for enemy tanks (Op Firestorm is a really awesome map for this, you can easily take out all of the enemy tanks completely solo if you sit hidden behind a rock off to the side somewhere).

Also personal apologies for our game on opposite sides on Seine Crossing Sureboss, I was completely pinned alone with my M39 and had to set up my tent and just try to survive til my team took A or C which just wasn't happening fast despite my fire support. I believe I got you 2-3 times from my spot but the worst of which was when I was sat watching the door like a pro camper and who is the only one who's had the brains to try and get me from behind? Of course it was you! I didn't have a motion sensor so I'd been sat there for 20 seconds waiting for someone once my walls were blown to bits, I felt quite bad that you'd made that effort to come get me as I'd decided to be a wuss and watch my back.

Agreed, another favorite tank strategy of mine is to sneak up behind them, then have my Engi gunner get out and shoot an RPG up the rear, then one tank round finishes it off. Took out two tanks without taking a hit today. Some people have very bad situational awareness.

No worries, it wasn't you that annoyed me in that game. Some guy with a FAMAS and I kept spawning on Back Streets, why the hell does it spawn you on those stairs between narrow passage and back streets? Worst possible place for a spawn point. Such an inconsistent map for me, never find the right class.

I was looking forward to knifing you too

CITV is very useful, with some co-ordination and a driver with guided missile, you can take out air or ground targets, whilst the gunner keeps away infantry, with a couple of you as engineers, you're bordering on invincible if everything is on task. VEXD and I kicked some arse with it a while back at Gulf of Oman. It's quite amusing, the flares don't seem to do anything either for the guided missile, which is a bonus.

Just got Assault service star, thrown the 870 shotgun on my Recon class too, trying to level that up. Also tried the AS VAL the other day, very nice, bit of recoil though.

You just solved a mystery for me, I kept getting 1 shotted by an Abrams whilst in a chopper because he must have locked on to me and then my flares wouldn't work which left me completely bemused and very annoyed (I dare say against choppers the combo is pretty OP if that's what was happening). This will be my next target though.

The 870 is really satisfying, unlike the semi-autos which are a bit noob-cannon ish whereas the 870 takes some thinking before you commit to giving your position away with a couple of blasts.

ECM works wonders against CITV/SOFLAM. Overall the best defensive combo for choppers is ECM(pilot)/flares(gunner) with unlocked Below Radar your only worry is skilled jet pilot who knows how to use a main gun.

870. Can't compliment it enough. Especially when you try to sneak up on the tank with C4 and someone wants to disturb you on your way to double/triple kill. No chance! :)

Speaking of tanks and seine crossing. Had a crazy good game yesterday just before sleep. Including my new best killstreak (31):

Ah yes, does sort of make sense that ECM works against it, as it's one of the later unlocks for choppers and CITV is the last unlock for tanks. So that works, though it's easier to rank up tanks than the choppers, unless you're gunner and have an awesome pilot. I had a excellent random in my squad the other night. We jumped in the chopper at Kharg, they had about 20 tickets left and I got about 12 kills. Immense flying.

And therein lies one of my only real issues with BF3, by not having some things unlocked you can be at a real disadvantage and I personally don't think that's very fair. Not starting with at least flares is bonkers for example, even though you unlock it early without them you have little opportunity to even get those first few hundred points in jets particularly so anybody purchasing the game now will have a real hard time being a pilot of anything. All of the counters to high end equipment should be the early unlocks, that CITV lock means if someone is using it only high level players can use the choppers or just have to accept defeat once they get a lock. I mean I've played 60+hours and I don't have anywhere near enough points on choppers for ECM.

I agree, particularly on flares. Though I don't often come across people using the CITV lock.

I think ECM is my next unlock on choppers and that's with about 200 chopper kills. It'd help if you got more points on assists. If I take down 5 people with the gun, I get 500+ points, the pilot gets what, 100? Yet without their flying I wouldn't have got those kills.

Suppose it doesn't help if you don't have a squad in your team working together to take out tanks, either with C4 or a round of RPGs.

I find the balance with most of the weapons is okay, with or without unlocks. But on vehicles, it could be improved.

Major ownage in that match I see.. :) Sorry I left so soon on Saturday... I was playing horribly bad and I couldnt join your game when you left our match... So I called it a night. :p

Why 5? The melee ribbon is 4. I got mine in a TDM. It's quite a good mode for it if you can flank well. Can't tell you how many games I got 3 knifings though!

Who needs guns! Didn't fire my gun at all, just used the repair torch a few times on the LAV and Abrams. Nice boost for my IFV unlocks too. Nothing like sneaking around and getting 6 rounds and a wire guided missile on a tank. Only died in a full on fight with their BMP.

Edit: Drag, I see you were using the M40. Really enjoy that rifle, lot of stopping power, you had a SOFLAM up in that round didn't you? I had a laser designation at some point too.

Finally destroyed an enemy's equipment with the repair torch! Only have 1 more unlock then I will have the attack choppers mastered.

I have to disagree. As it is, it is nigh impossible to shoot down aircraft as Engi when there is no SOFLAM. Choppers are overpowered against anything that isn't a CITV / well squadded tank and or skilled jet pilot (of which, there are not many).

Me and a teammate were on fire each in an F18. The other pilots suck I think since we were dominating them and the attack helo. Armor was no issue either with beam scanning and guided missile. Finally figured out how to turn hard in the F18. That thing is unbelievably agile.

I pretty much exclusively run SOFLAM on Recon now, it makes me able to actually snipe from distance and not capture flags without feeling guilty for not helping the team much. I usually place it down in a high field of view area, then run a fair distance from it and start seeing what I can pick off and as soon as I'm aware of any movement of a vehicle or if a flag the SOFLAM can see is at risk I swap over and get spotting/locking. It's an excellent tool and can be used really cleverly making Recon a worthwhile class to play in almost any game rather than being restricted to more infantry heavy levels. I use the M40 with Ballistic and bipod on long range maps or an M39 with ACOG and bipod (sometimes silencer on the M39 also). On maps like Seine Crossing the M39 is incredible, post up in a window (ACOG means no lense flare) and you can fire almost as fast as you can pull the trigger with no recoil thanks to the bipod.

The game on Metro we had was awesome, really good struggle and fighting from the poor side of the map with my 870 was incredibly satisfying and I can gladly say I broke our team out of the rut you normally get bogged down in on B by charging out and buckshotting my way to freedom which really turned the tables. Your work on Tehran was also very impressive, most of our games this afternoon were all really good fun 👍.

Well that was the problem, early on stingers 1 shotted vehicles and nobody had flares so they nerfed it and now it requires a couple to take something down and everyone has flares. Choppers are only really OP in Rush though, I only play CQ where they are much less of a problem outside of spawn killing where an AA gun is usually placed now. In Rush (imo) the attack helicopters should be removed completely or have more dedicated AA guns put in to stop the insanity it can become due to clustered spawns. Engineers shouldn't really be able to stop an aircraft without support (even if it's another engineer or 2) or those aircraft will become pointless in CQ where you won't be able to find 1 or 2 engineers in the midst of a huge map. Currently with only a small amount of co-ordination a chopper can become heavily muted in CQ, before CITV is in the mix, as they're being harassed by jets alot of the time or a couple of people start fixing them with a constant lock on which no amount of flares can stop because ultimately they can rarely find the source.

Then again Rush is a fairly broken mode alot of the time, frag rounds and other such nonsense usually end up in it being a total slaughter for whichever team is worse even if only slightly which is a shame as it can provide some really good games in close teams.

I should try getting premium on this game :) as I did in BC2. Loved it.

I just can't snipe. It seems the bullet drop is different every time I try to shoot, I can never get it, and I always have to take a practice shot just to see how much the bullet will drop, even of there is someone around...
