The M416 is still a beast after the patch. Its my absolute favorite weapon and I still use it a lot. At the moment the current combo I have is Grip/Holo/Suppressor and it performs amazingly well still after the patch. Changes were minimal to this gun I believe.
I tried out the M416 for the first time last night after the latest patch and I do not think the weapon was changed much. I was also running Holographic Sight, Foregrip, and Suppressor, which is what I was using before the patch.
I have a real problem with switching weapons though; I jump between primaries in a class seemingly every match or multiple times per match. The most kills I have with any weapon is 450ish with the M249. All but a few were done before the latest patch. I have since obtained Service Stars with the M26 IAR, RPK, M240B, M60E4, and PKP Pecheneg. Each of those was done in the latest patch, except for the M26 IAR (the majority was done in the previous patch).
This is one of the things that keeps BF3 alive in my opinion - getting to grips with a new weapon and being driven to master it.
When I one day return to the Assault class, I want to run the AEK and G3 as I have yet to try them. The MP7 is also another one I want to try, I've seen a lot of guys in CQC have high success with it i.e. they kill me a lot with it.
I really like the G3A3. The larger 7.62x51mm NATO round packs a big punch and consequently, the weapon has quite a bit of recoil on fully automatic. I find myself using the weapon in semi auto quite often. I am going back and forth between the Heavy Barrel and Flash Suppressor on the weapon. The Flash Suppressor benefits fully auto fire more, but since I use the weapon mostly in semi auto, the Heavy Barrel is likely more beneficial. Either way, I enjoy using the weapon.
The AEK-971 is a good weapon. The iron sights are clear. I have actually taken off either of the Russian sights for just the irons because at times the irons feel less obstructive. The only complaint I have with the AEK-971 is the relationship between the fire rate and how fast 30 rounds are spent; I need to reload much too often.
What you guys think is the gun?
I think its the AN-94 for the medic kit. I just dont feel the gun and iron sights are horrible. Maybe my opinion will change wheni get sight for it.
I am not sure about the gun overall. The iron sights are on the bad side. The front sight is mostly fine, but the rear is just terrible, much too obstructive. I finally managed to use the weapon long enough last week to unlock the Kobra sight and after unlocking the sight, I decided to switch to another weapon, instead of actually trying the weapon with the sight.
The problem with the weapon is the burst mode. I really want to like burst fire weapons in this game, but each of the burst weapons do not feel as effective as the fully automatic weapons. Though, I may have found a good attachment for the M16A4 with the Flash Suppressor, instead of the Heavy Barrel.
^ Agreed. The M249 has lost its shine after the patch... Also don't use it much anymore... The initial recoil has been raised quite a bit, so no more run and gun moments..

I have grown very fond of the M60 though
I have only used the M249 a short amount of time in this patch, but my impression of the weapon now is not good, especially when compared to the M60E4, PKP Pecheneg, or even the M240B. I like the M60E4 and PKP much more than the M240B, but the M240B has had its moments. The M240B is just too Jekyll and Hyde though for me to consistently use. Sometimes the weapon feels like a laser and I am able to put 25 or more rounds in a very small grouping. Other times, if more than one round hit the broad side of a barn, then I would be happy.
Does anyone else constantly switch weapons and not stick with one for a period of time? I think my constant switching may have an effect on my performance.
