How many of us ACTUALLY open the entries in ANY competition and view ALL of the entries fuill size before voting? Be honest. It's an anonymous poll.

To be honest, I can usually tell from the thumbnail if a given picture will be at least fairly interesting. It has to grab my attention, first. Then out of those ones that did that, the one with best resolution and composition and all that usually takes my vote.

i don't open them all. Just the ones i like.
sometimes the thumbs look better then the fullsize image :)

Ditto.

I open all of them when I vote. When I selected the top 20 for this past week (21), I opened every single entry just to be sure the full image is what the small thumbnail appears to be. 👍

a good picture can grab your attention at any size, usually i can spot imo the best immediately from the thumbnails

no, i dont have all day to oepn all the images on dial-up. special divs which weigh in at a hefty half a meg on average. some in his gallery are 300kb short of a meg. meh.

i open a few of them, if i like what they look like thumbnail-wise.. then i choose which of those i liked best..

Thank you to those who do take the time to look at each picture and give them fair and equal consideration. 👍

like someone said a GOOD picture could grab attention a mile away, or was it from the thumbnail, anyways, you people know what i mean. and some people really don't have that much time. (like me) i need to play counter-strike instead of voting in some silly competition (sarcasim)

I open most of them before I cast my vote
but for sure if I am responsible to pick top 20
I will check every single pictures and rate them

When it comes to judging, for my muscle car comps of course I open each one and study each picture. I usually pore over my top 5 for a few minutes, taking my time eliminating. Last week was very easy though.

i usually see all the pictures as they are being posted for the comp, so when the poll comes around i know what they look like and i only have to open a few that i already know i like to decide which one is best.

I use that same approach.👍 And if I ever get the chance to pick the top 20, I will surely open every one and make sure the top 20 are the top 20!

I used to open all the finalists before voting, but in the last few weeks I haven't been bothered.

Looking at the results so far gives a pretty clear indication that if you want to win a photomode comp you need to have a picture that looks good both in full size and as a thumbnail.

It also helps to have pretty colors :p

Nicely said.

If it catches my eye, then I open it and look.

i open them all when they're posted in the entry thread... so when i'm voting the thumbs jog my memory of the ones i liked and i'll re-open the *good* ones, to make a final descision.

I go about the same way as Dr_Watson. I view them all in full size when they are first posted in the entries thread. When the poll is up i usually only view the ones i remember as beign better than some of the others in full size.

It would help if people that save their photos in Photoshop saved them with Quality set at 10 instead of the maximum wich is 12. On 10 the quality is completely the same as on 12 but the file size is almost 50% less then what it would be if you saved on quality level 12. I don't mind it but i know that people with slower connections would sometimes be turned off of viewing the full sized photo if it takes a long time to load. I know i would.

:)

I use 11 for most cases ... if I have a big photo, I use 10
that's meaningless using 12 ... waste of bandwidth

heh ... i use quality set at 40-60 in photoshops "save for the web" (or something like that) and ive been able to keep images at or less than 120k.

I do. I open them all in their own windows, then look at the picture, and close it if I don't like it, or leave it open if I do. Then go through them again and compare, closing whatever ones I feel aren't as good as another. Takes a while to do, but I find it fair since many people put a lot of time and effort into it.

thats actually very similar to the methodology I use to pick my final entry.
