Beater or Sleeper? GT6 Car of the Week Thread

Im able to sign in now. Guess it was just one of those periods of time. I'll leave the TT to you then Ash, just hoping I can join in for Tuesday!

Ok ladies and gentlemen the event is up. Mary isn't driving Miss Daisy around the Silverstone Stowe Circuit. I was tempted to use the GT arena since Pozzi's car is really for autocross, but I'm not that mean. It starts this evening, and I let it run till through Christmas, if that's OK @Nismonath5.

The club name is Car of the Week 2.0 and club i.d is 1074424

Thank goodness this thing comes with SS tires

This is why I'll never sell ya, no matter how many camels those Albanians offer me..

Also, lobby's up people! I have a dinner to go to so I'll need to leave earlier than perhaps I might usually, but still hope to have a bit of action!

Sorry it keeps kicking me out every week then not letting me back in.

For the last year, GTPlanet members have been tasked with reviewing the best and worst that Gran Turismo 6 has to offer. Some found gems, some found turds. Today we celebrate those gems and turds with:

GTPlanet's Beater or Sleeper Car of the Year Awards!

Alright folks, it's that time of the year again. Like all years we'll start with the awards noone cares about and progressively get to the bigger events. I could just announce the Car Of The Year right now, but then you'd all just ditch after that and I need the ratings! So sit back, pour yourself a fine drink and read on!

The first award is the Bridgette Wilson Award for best hair and makeup.

The nominees are: Toyota FT-1, Mazda LM55, Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Mazda Roadster TC, Ferrari F40 and Lamborghini Muira.
...and the winner is...

ferrari-f40-front-headlights.jpg

The Ferrari F40!!!

Next up is literally the opposite. Tammy Faye Bakker Award for Worst Hair and Makeup goes to the car that will do any (or all) of the following..
-Burn your irises out
-Induce immediate vomiting
-Cause dizziness
In other words, who was blind enough to approve the designs of these rolling eyesores???

The nominees are: Subaru 360, Nissan Leaf, Honda Element, Toyota Will VS
...and the winner is...

20140801_075353.jpg

The Honda Element!!!!

No amount of holy water could heal my eyes after seeing this monstrosity!

When not in Gran Turismo, cars will often times fill their spare time by appearing on television and in films. The Susan Lucci Award honors the Best Supporting Actor in Gran Turismo.

The nominees are: DMC DeLorean, Ford GT40 mk 1.
...and the winner (by an overwhelming majority I must say) is...

BackFuturePhoto3.jpg

The DMC DeLorean S2!!! for Back To The Future!!!
Fairly obvious choice, really.

Is this where you want to be when the baby Jesus comes back? The Joe Dirt "I'm-your-sister" Award is awarded to the car that best represents Detroit's inbred past, present, and future.

The nominees are: Chrysler Prowler, Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR, Ford Shelby GT500 and Dodge Ram 1500.
...and the winner is...

1109001-3.jpg

The Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR!!!!!

You know what, forget this! I'm gonna skip right to the chase! The 2017 Car Of The Year is the-

-oh. Uhhh, right. Now I remember why I'm not allowed to prematurely announce the COTY. Guess I better carry on with the awards before I blow up another small uninhabited Pacific island!

Once in a while, a fresh talent surprises critics with talent that simply cannot be ignored. The Susan Boyle Award is given to car that we find surpasses expectations, and makes Simon Cowell look like a twit. Mostly the latter.

The nominees are: BMW 120i, Daihatsu Mira TR-XX, Nissan Primera 20V, Mazda Roadster TC, Nissan Leaf.
...and the winner is...

1.jpg

The Nissan Primera 20V!!!

Michael Schumacher. Juan Manuel Fangio. Sebastian Vettel. Lewis Hamilton. These drivers have amassed multiple championships by being consistent throughout the course of a season, and better than the rest of the field a majority of the time. The Vanilla Ice Ice Baby Award is given to the GTPlanet member that best embodies the exact opposite of that, displaying a glimmer of hope only one lap at a time, per season.

The nominees are: Vic_Reign93 for dominating the lobbies, Nismonath5 for rivalling Vic, and G_Asher for occasionally dominating the race.
...and the winner is...

278368.jpg

@Nismonath5!!!!
Honestly, Nismo. You've given Vic more than a few runs for his money! That's worth respect!

In 2008 the first GT Academy was held, and the day before the finals began, young Ted Thomas lost his life due to tragic and bizarre series of events. We honor Ted's memory each year by awarding the Grand Prize winner of GT Academy with a Red Helmet. This year we're also presenting a Ted Thomas Memorial Trophy to The Most Improved Driver over the course of the year.

The nominees are Rob_On_Drums, G_Asher and Nismonath5.
...and the winner (Once again by a phenominal margin) is...

he picked up some real speed, out of nowhere this year:tup:

Every once in a while, a total stranger shows up in the club and wastes no time getting involved with the goings on! Making themselves a part of the community, joining in the racing action, and generally providing a welcome reminder that this club's still got a squirt or two of life left! The Rookie Of The Year award goes to the new kid on the block who's got the right stuff.

The nominees are: Rinsky, Rinsky, Rinsky, and... Rinsky.
Seriously!
...and the winner is...

289582.jpg

@Rinsky!!!!

He showed up out of nowhere, rolled up his sleeves and got right to it! Already part of the family!

Being a club that specialises in one-make racing (for the most part), we've seen our fair share of close finishes and exciting battles. Sometimes, these battles are won by mere split seconds, other times someone cracks under the pressure and wrecks spectacularly. Whatever happens, there are plenty of legendary races in the COTW archives. So which of 2017's battles takes the top spot?

The nominees are: Every AGS race, and Dead heat @ Bathurst.
...and the winner is...

Dead Heat @ Bathurst!!!

Obvious choice, you literally do not get any closer than that!

Most car manufacturers strive to make their cars safer, easier to drive, and generally less likely to crash. However some manufacturers seem to have missed that memo, and as a result there is almost a sub-genre of cars that are downright dangerous to drive. Maybe they have way too much power and not enough handling, maybe they have a tendancy to slide when it's least appropriate, or maybe they just do not like you. The Widowmaker award goes to the car most likely to send you home on a tow truck. Or in a box.

The nominees are: Lister Storm V12, Jay Leno Tank Car, TVR Tuscan Speed 6, and RUF BTR.
...and the winner is...

1991_Ruf_BTR_III_For_Sale_Rear_Three_Quarter_View_resize.jpg

The RUF BTR!!!

As a result of our quite close racing action, a few rivalries pop up. Two or more drivers that, although friends on the thread and IRL, become the fiercest of rivals as soon as the green flag drops, showing no mercy, never letting up, continually pushing eachother and their cars to never-before-seen heights, and making for some truly epic racing in all kinds of cars, beaters and sleepers alike! The Best Rivalry recognises the fiercest on-track feud between drivers.

The nominees are: Nismo vs Vic, Baron vs Vic, and Vic on AGS vs Everybody.
...and the winner is...

And now, we come to the second-to-last award of the night. The all round Beater Of The Year. This isn't just "Worst looking" or "Worst value for money", this is "Worst overall." The absolute least plesant wheels we've driven, the bottom of the barrell, worst of the worst, biggest pile of turd we've ever had the misfortune of driving!

The nominees are: Jay Leno TankCar, Volvo C30 R, Toyota Will VS, and BMW M3 '04.
...and the winner is...

jay_leno_600_lq_0001.jpg

The Jay Leno Tank Car!!!!

I wonder what the gallons per mile on this thing is?

And now. This is it. You've all been waiting, and I'm about to announce the 2017 GT6 Car Of The Week. But before I do... *audience groans*

I'm well aware that GT6 is dying. Hell, it's only a matter of time before the servers are shut down and that's the end of GT on the PS3. But can I just say, I'm thankful to all those who put in the hours and effort to partake in the club. Joining the races, taking photos, recording videos, writing reviews... it all takes time. Time that everyone takes out of their various walks of life to keep this club ticking. Thank you. I don't know how much longer GT6 will be online. But I hope Car Of The Week will carry on till the end, and when the servers finally host their last race, we shall eventually re-assemble on GT Sport and the whole cycle will begin anew.. Here's to Car Of The Week! *raises wine glass. Didn't have a beer on hand so wine will do.*

With all that warm, heartfelt stuff said, it's time for the big one. The 2017 Car Of The Year award. We've raced a lot of cars we've liked. In fact, I was thinking of doing a "Top 10" video instead of announcing the winner this way. But really, noone cares about the other 9, we want to know which one is king.

The nominees are: BMW M3 '04, Honda Civic SiR II EG, and Renault Megane Trophy Base Model.
...and the winner is... *opens golden envelope*

0112_02zoom+honda_civic_eg_coupe+rear_left.jpg

The Honda Civic SiR II EG!!!!!

And that's a wrap for 2017, folks! We'll be racing the Civic for the last week of 2017, before doing it all again in 2018! Also, a race at Bathurst will be almost inevitable, I can already tell. ;)

Cheers for a great year guys, and Merry Christmas!

Wow what a review of the year @Nismonath5 wish I would've found the group sooner.

Thanks to everyone for voting me Rookie of the Year. You guys made me feel like part of the family from the very first day.

Congratulations to everyone who won an award. And a big Thank You to all those who didn't because without you this group wouldn't be the success that it is.

To @Vic Reign93 The photo Nismonath5 posted of you surpised me because I pictured you being much older. You just come across that way which is not a bad thing at all.
Maybe I should change my photo.

It will indeed be a sad day when GT6 goes offline for good but there has been no word from PD or Sony about it so hopefully we get a few more years.
With that being said I did buy a PS4 and GTS yesterday so I will be ready to continue this group over there when the time comes.
I am not leaving GT6 just so you know and I will be spending around 75% of my time on GT6 and not GTS.

Well to be fair, I haven’t updated that photo in a while, but it’s not too far off. (Also it reminds me to not accept a haircut offer from a longtime friend who was slightly drunk at the time.)

But aside from that, I know what you meant, cheers for that.

Congrats to the winners for this year.

Hopefully I should be able to get the last 3 cars done before christmas. :P

I'm glad I got to take part in this while I was still able to.

Now that GT Sport is upon us and the content in that game is slowly expanding (15 new cars as of today + 1 new track and full career), I suspect that it won't be long until GT Sport beater or sleeper comes around.

When that day comes, I'll see you crazies on the track.

I think most saw the news today about GT6 servers closing March 2018, so I'm guessing we will continue Beater or Sleeper on GT6 till March and then move over to GTS or just wait and see.

We have a few options, and I was going to raise this discussion a bit later but allgood we can talk now.

Option uno:
Carry on GT6 until the servers shut down, then seamlessly transition to GTS. (Ambitious but unlikely)

Option dos:
Carry on as normal, then when the servers shut down, adopt an offline version of COTW for GT6 where people pick a car, then replace the online meetups and Playing With TT's with a more traditional "fastest lap in free run approach." We'll all be on offline physics, so no worries there.

Option tres: wait till all the regulars have a ps4 before officially restarting COTW on the ps4 (until then just enjoy the game)

Option quattro: Hmmmm... any other ideas?

I'm open to input, I'm just aware that some of us don't have a ps4 yet, nor will be likely coming into possession of one in the coming months. The other thing to consider is the sheer amount of cars still on offer on gt6 as opposed to the small list on gts. Sure that list is growing but it's still totally inferior. We could adapt to the offline version if people are willing, but I want your input on the matter!

Option quattro: Buy an Xbox one and FM7 and join @Vic Reign93 in his COTW group going on.

I definitely want to continue on GT6 until the servers shut down. After that I will probably move on to GTS full time. I have the most fun racing with you guys and I'm sad to see that coming to an end for now.

It's crazy to think you all just finished the 4th year of COTW and still haven't touched all the cars. As for right now our group would run though the GTS production cars list in about 6 months.

I know @Racer283, @
Draggon and myself already have GTS so we will be ready to continue there if you should so choose to do so.
I also have no problem jumping to FM7 and its massive car list either as I can pick up a used 500GB Xbox one reasonably cheap.

I would say we carry on till the servers close down and figure out from there. I just wanted to see what you guys felt about it since GT6 is coming to a close in about three months.

I know @Racer283, @Draggon and myself already have GTS so we will be ready to continue there if you should so choose to do so.

I know @McClarenDesign, @Baron Blitz Red, totally_lit and rob all have GTS at the moment. About half the group has GTS except for Vic and Nathan. Also I don't want to go out and buy another console and have to pay for the membership to play online again.

For now it's just a talking point and we can decide as the day gets closer.

Not that I'm apart of the group yet (hopefully Sunday) but I'm not going to get a PS4, paying for online is ****. So I would love to continue on GT6 offline.

I understand where you are coming from. This pay to play does suck now days but in a way all of the PS3 users got lucky seeing as Xbox owners have been paying for online services for a lot longer than we have.
Hopefully you will change your mind one day and join us on the PS4.

The best part of Car of the Week is racing with all of you. It's been the best part of GT6 for me since I joined a few years ago.

Option 5: Do a weekly challenge like the GT AI Hub photonrider does. That way we could race rather than just do a TT, even if it is against the AI.

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/gt6-ai-hub-stealth-starfighter-takes-flight-check-op.320606/

FYI @JackRyanWMU and Mitoferrari are on sport too.
I do the AI HUB events they are really fun it's better then just doing tt's, maybe everyone should join forces

I'm sure @photonrider want be happy doing a COTW challenge.
