do u guys think i should upgrade my Trueno that i started out with? Or should I just wait to get a car with more potential to put a lot of money into?

The trueno is actually a very good car, beyond drifting. It is one of the more fun FR cars in the game for grip racing. It is also a good car to improve your dirving skills because even when fully tuned it isn't a screamer. You need to learn how to actually drive and race to be fast with it.

My advice would be to add parts into the car one at a time and get so you can feel the difference each time. If you just go and max the car out you'll miss alot of the subtle things of the car (and the game). This is true for any car, but especially an underpowered FR ca rlike the Trueno.

The Trueno is a decent car, but just decent. It's capable of making way more power than the chassis can decently put to the ground. It's going to start hitting its limits around 200-250 hp. I'd start with a set of T2 super slicks, then go to the race suspension and get the car set up well, then start adding power. That's pretty much my formula for every new car.

Welcome to GTPlanet, TRD14!

I would not put all your money into this car.
Far better to get the IB license, buy a 1.8 MX5 Mazda (Miata), buy T2 tires and enter the Roadster enduro.
1st prize is 150,000 credits and a 1 in 4 chance of a F1.
Note : F1 should only be used in F1 races. Makes the game to easy if you use it too early and also you will find your skill levels do not improve if you use it all the time to beat lesser cars.

I agree with the Miata suggestion. My first GT3 game was with a Trueno, and I never got anywhere really. I restarted with the Miata (the older one, as it is slightly cheaper and has a slight performance advantage), and was much more successful. Plus, it doesn't look too bad in black with black wheels!

Get the Trueno do the sunday cup win a Trueno and sell that one to by new parts for your other one.

the trueno is not a bad car, but it is not a great car either. you can use it to win the 80's car races and make a bit of cash, and it can probably win the turbo beginner's cup. it does not have the money making potential as the miata or the vitz, but it still performs pretty well.

what i would do in your situation is to make it good enough to win the the 80's beginner, then to upgrade to the next step. i believe i chose a lanevo VI next, although there are plenty of other good choices.

last time i restarted, i was so frustrated with the boredom of using trueno/vitz/miata until i was rich enough to compete in races i liked, so i just won the rx-8 off of the A license =P

I used the Trueno till I could get an MR2 GT-S... I used both in what races they could be raced in. For races like the FF race, I would use a prize car, slap tires on it, and maybe basic suspension. Where I could, I would get a car that could do mulitple races well, such as the ACURA Integra Type R, which I used for the R series races, the American races, and FF races.

My Trueno was eventually replaced by the S.S. Edition, which I used to complete the FR race at and British cup car races at Pro Level.... But I still use the GT-S where it stands a chance, such as the Turbo races at pro level.

The Trueno is one of my all time favorite cars in the game. Aside from maybe my MR2 GT-S.

honestly, its only as good as your skill. i also reccomend goin with tires, then suspension, with power later. the car can really perform well if the suspnesion is tuned properly. neon duke is right, once you start hitting 200-250hp, its a bit much (tho the SS version magically handles it). you can win the s13 from one of the beginner races and use that if you wish. depends on what you want to drive and how far you are willing to push yourself to be fast.

Yeah.... over 200 and something is too much for the car. I find I win most races cause of the late braking I can do with the car, and its simple behavior. But the braking is most of it, cause of weight.

What I have found with the Trueno, is a tendency to be "Britney" without some big time suspension work. (It shakes its ass, with no real pay-off in the end)

When you put the full race suspension on it, set the back end quite a bit softer than you would normally.
That will keep the back end firmly planted in the turns. The chassis still has about a 250 HP working limit, unless you drive in a rather reserved manner.

Thanks you guys for all your responses. This helped me out a lot. By the way, I've been wanting to do an endurance race and want to know what car I should use for any of them. Any help is thanked.

My favorite enduro is the Roadster Enduro. You need a plain, non-upgraded Miata and T2 tires. Run any stock Miata you happen to own, and pit once around lap 20. It should be an easy victory, it will earn you 100,000 credits and a 25% chance at an F1 prize car, and it's just plain a lot of fun. Don't worry about the guy who runs away at the beginning. He pits so much that he'll be at least a lap down by lap 40.

Good luck!

Yeah, the Miata enduro is pretty much drive around conservatively with T2 tires, and you'll win, cause everyone else pits in a bunch. I happened to ahve the fastest stock Miata when I did it, but I won by like.... 3 laps or something, so it could easily be done with a lesser one. But yeah, its fun too, cause its not painfully hard to win, not an oval track (I hate the test course, I just stick the car in max gear, tape the accelerator down, and let it drive its self :/ ) so I recommend that one as your first.

Thanks guys, that sounds like a good idea.
I'm also trying to do the last championship series in the beginner class, "GT world championship," I think. What car and upgrades do u guys recommend? I don't think my RX-7 is good enough.

I did it with an MR2 GT-S with fully done suspension, brakes, T2 tires, Stage 2 Turbo, the small intercooler, and 2 levels of weight reduction. Also had a fully customized tranny, 2 stage clutch and flywheel, and fully custom LSD. I won fairly well, but some races were a pain...

I'll see what I can do the race with thats a pretty basic car now, like the Trueno with mild upgrades or something... I'll tell ya what happens....

Meh, unless I want to get stage 2 Turbo... I can't out do the Rally cars in the World Championship Races series in Beginner... just get an MR2 GT-S or something similar with a turbo... 22B STi maybe, or Celica GT-4...

I used my rx-7 fd to beat the GT world championship.

the rx-7's are great, also so is the AE86. These cars, help you learn more then you think.

I actually have an RX-7 and was thinking of doing the GT championship with that.
I have a full suspension, full tranny, sports brakes, and level 2 turbo. I also have a couple of different sets of tyres. What set do u think I should use? And do I need anything else?

I run all my races on super slicks normally, just cause I'm cheap like that. You should be able to do that with an FD setup like that, a custom LSD might help. Mostly it comes down to tuning the suspension for the corners, raw power is only so so of an issue at that level...

I initially started the game with the Trueno, but came to the same conclusion - you really need race suspension and slicks to make something of this car. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but you quickly reach a point where you've basically got to go full bore on everything to be competetive. Granted, it really makes you focus on being a better driver, but the 80's Miata (the one you win in the BL Sunday Cup) has a better chassis and similar power-to-weight ratio when fully tuned.

After a week of beating my head against the wall (and running the same races OVER and OVER and OVER) I started over...by getting all golds in the Rally license, taking the Impreza Prototype and pretty much kicking butt in every race it could enter in the BL, AL, and Rally. That's really the way to go - either beat all the time trials or get all Golds on one or two of the license tests. Not only do you get a nice ride, you build the skills to make the most of it.
