i think it was the world most sell car ever made.

According to the Guinness Book Of Records, the most units of a single car ever sold are 25 million, for the Volkswagen Beetle (that's two "E"s, wee_man. There were only 4 Beatles. Okay, 5 including Pete Best).

The highest volume for any car is the Toyota Corolla at 28 million, but it's been through so many model changes it can't be called the same car.

Which Is the odd one out?

As for best car ever -

Racing car - GT40 - dominating in every way.
Street Rod - Camaro - still has more aftermarket parts then any Honda - A chassis that was made to hold any GM engine starting with the 283 and up.
Truck - Ford F-150 - #1 selling car in the world

feels good to get rid of that fuel effecient performance cat. thanks Famine

The most fuel-efficient pure petrol-engined car on sale in the UK today is the Audi A2 at 78mpg.

This is beaten only by a 1.5 diesel car and the big three hybrids.

It's a fallacy that you can get both fuel economy and performance out of the VTECs. Sure, they are very, very good at both, but you must decide which one you want. As soon as the needle passes 5500rpm, it sucks gas like a $5 hooker.

The Citroen DS. I don't know so much hard facts about it but from what I understand it was 20 years before it's time. Except for the engine.

Some more good cars.

Famine: meh, kiss ma bum! :p . Though that's pheniminal fduel milage for the A2  .

Ultrabeat: If you can expand and explain a bit more :).....

Shop: I can think of many other cars which you could use a very similar argument with. E.g. the AC cobra. I mean it whopped the Chevy most of the time inn competition ;).

Gentleman if you could also expand a bit more?:)

Miata: again if you could give some reasons :)?

The CAmaro was a brief project that turned into a facination of American muscle cars. Chevy and GM Big wigs did not feel like getting into the Street rod catergory. Until one day They went to a race where they saw the Mustang in action tearing up the competition and they learned this is where the sport car industry was going. Chevy build the Camaro in less then a year I beleive (could be wrong, but it was a short time). They wanted a platform that would out-perform the muscle cars that were being produced by everyone else. Their solution, to be able to use every motor in their lineup. Some personal favorites include and not limited too. . . the 350 / 302 / the feared 502 / and 454. The Z28 badge is religious to Chevy lovers everywhere. A small block to take the Chevy race team to victory against the Mustang :D Is that reason enough??? or need I insert more?

I was gonna say Model T but its already been nomintated, so....... i guess my post is worthless. But i think 2nd to that it the Skyline because they are such beautiful cars.

Well I have to confess I don't know my American muscle car history, so I'm just going to have to take your word that it should be the best car ever in the world. :)

Edit: Just read Shob's, hmmmm....... well I'll have to includes Shobs vote as well, and we'll just have to let the voters decide.:)

Sorry miata, I think you better insert some more, cuz last I heard, the Camaro LOST to the mustang.
Go check the race results of the 1968 Trans Am Group II class - you will probably see how many races the Z 28s took I think it was 10 out of 13 :D

Not really. The car is so flimsily built (what a nice word) that turning the windscreen wipers on causes the whole car to rock about underneath them.

Ever paid for an Audi to be serviced at an Audi dealer? :D

I dont see how you can pick the camaro over the mustang. The camaro was built because of the mustang and the mustang is still being produced while the camaro was stopped recently. If your going to pick the one muscle/pony car i think you have to go with the mustang. Plus the mustang has such cool models as the shelby's and Boss'

The Mustang might have pioneered the Muscle car era, but why not choose a Dodge Charger or a Plythmouth Couger or a Challenger??? It is personal prefrence - the Mustang and Camaro are were the last of the Muscle cars left from an era of Mad power and massive fuel consumption. I am a chevy man over a Ford man. I would take a 69 SS over a 69 top of the line stang anyday of the week :D

Well i myself would take the camaro over a mustang as well, but for the best car ever i think it should be the mustang. I dont think a copycat type car should be considered the best car in the world over the original. I doubt that if the mustang hadnt been built then the camaro wouldnt have been built either.

The best cars ever built are the old Duesenbergs, Auburns, and Cords. There is no such thing called a Plythmouth Couger.

I realize that the Model T has already been nominated. I'd just like to say that Evo hit the nail right on the head.

Some of the more classic designs:
the Austin-Healey 3000,
Jaguar SS-100 and the Early XK's
The '56 Thunderbird (it looked right from every angle and had the 312 engine)
The '56-7 Corvette (it also looked right from every angle)
The Lotus Elan. (Colin Chapman was a genius)
The E-Type (If you have to ask the manufacturer, you don't know cars)
The 550 Porsche
The 246 Dino Ferrari
The 914-6 Porsche
The 289 and 427 AC Cobra
The GT-40
Not because they were practical, or in the case of the 914-6, beautiful. But because they are example of cars that functioned well, did what they were supposed to do (excite the driver, and in some cases, scare the hell out of one lucky passenger). Most of them also looked awesome doing it.

I'm gonna put the Stnag up as I saw the Top Gear episode with Clarkson championing it as the best car ever, and he made some good points.

Gil: A good list there, but if you could maybe choose a specific car or two and give some reasons :) .

Snoopie: I can think of many other cars as well which are practical, quick and beautiful ;) . Give some more good reasons why you think those cars are the best cars ever of all time and I'll put them up.:)

Great initiative wee_man. Ok, the poll isn't up yet but the winner in votings like this is almost always the Porsche 911 (now that's a brand worth some Oprah-stash). Except when the voting is held in GB.:p

All other reasons aside, I'm gonna champion the AC Cobra.
It was the best of British Coachwork and the best small block available at that time. Teamed together to make one of the most memorable, high-performance cars of all time.

As for the Mustang, Due to its longevity, and being the first car of it's type. I'll have to stand behind it as well. The Camaro is a fine car, but it was "born" three years late (playing "catch-up" as Chevy is prone to doing) and died too soon.
Add to that the humble beginnings of the 'Stang, and where it has gone from there, it beats the Camaro hands down.

I've seen some of the other numerous 'What's The Greatest Car In The World?' threads and they're all the same with someone just saying. 'Erm, yeah, hi, what do you think the best car in the world is?'. The thread usually dies like after the 12th post. So I wanted to do this properly :) . What I want people to see with this though, is not they pick cars just because they think the car has the greatest 0-60 it's the best car ever, but for cars which have changed the world, or had an influnce on the world :) . Anyway, so far so good. I'm not going to keep it running for much longer, so keep those nominations comming people!:)

Gil:Nice nominations, will add your bits. :)

Lets' face it, the Countach is as brash as the '70s decade in which it was born. Where its predecessor (the Miura) was as sexy as a Parisian
waitress (or waiter), the Countach is as sexy as Jason King. Yep, the '60s was a tough act to follow.

The first Countach appeared on Bertone's stand at the Geneva Show in 1971 - the same year that "Hot pants" were invented, yuk. All the exciting
bits were squeezed into the rear end and difficult to get at - just like the car. Gandini styled the Countach and it was called the LP500 (Longitudinale Posteriore 5-litre). Only one was built and it had a 5-litre 440bhp engine.
Production did not get underway until 1974. The production LP 400 Countach was now fitted with the smaller 4-cam, 4-litre, 375 bhp engine. Later Countach milestones were the 1978 LP 400S, the 1981 LP 500S and in the 1985 the 5.2-litre Quatrovalvole (455bhp). Here we test an early LP 400 Countach.

That very first Countach LP 500 had a semi-monocoque chassis but the production LP 400 cars had an intricate tubular steel spaceframe. This is an immensely strong structure with dozens of steel tubes welded together in such a way that they only have to deal with compression and tension loads; tricky bending moments are at a minimum. On this main chassis, a lightweight steel superstructure supports the handmade aluminium body panels.
The upward opening doors are hand-fitted to each car. I don't know how to describe the styling. The Miura was an impossible act to follow but whether the design anarchy of the Countach was the way to go, I know not.
From any angle it looks mad, only to look madder as the later cars evolved big arches and spoilers.

Ideally the Countach should be radio-controlled. It is when you install a human being that the problems arise. With the door open and looking into the car you notice that the two seats are very narrow and low between the immense door sills and broadbeamed transmission tunnel. Compared with today's curvy, roundy, friendly designs, the Countach - inside or out - assaults
the eye with coarse angles and poor ergonomics. From the driver's seat you can see forward with the usual limitations of a 3ft 6in high car. Rear
vision is by interior mirror only. Originally this gave a narrow field of vision through a recess in the roof. On this car it has been replaced by a mirror glued on to the screen which obscures some of the driver's forward field of vision. Anything not directly behind the car is unseen.
Rear three-quarter view? Forget it. Even side view is awkward, the door glass horizontal mid-frame coincides nicely with your eye level. Unless you have a head the size of a tennis ball, you can't lean out of the window. Exterior mirrors? Not on this car.
Exactly!
