Best LeMan (LM) Racecar?

Out of all the LMPs I own, which is a lot, I prefer the Toyota TS020(GT-One). It's got great grip and speed all around. If I had to go with a premium, the 787B is the easiest to drive although the Peugeot 908 is probably faster (tons of wheel spin in the low rpm since it's a diesel).

I did the 24h LeMans with the 908, and if the biggest issue is wheel spin; it quits over-spinning at 90MPH. Most courses that you're going to use it on only has a few of the slower corners. At La Sarthe, I only got it in Dunlop, out of Indianapolis, and just a touch around the Porsche Curves. If your smooth in any of the chicanes, you wont have an issue. The courses that will give you issues with this car are the slower city courses. Just be aware of this car's oversteer on entry... that's potentially the biggest issue about this car. I'd still choose it again.

Theres a thread on here where a GTer Tested 50 LM Cars. He tested Standing start Acceleration, Mid Speed Acceleration, Top Speed, Lap Times in Indy Speedway and Trial Mountain. The best car was the Toyota GT One

The Audi R8 LMP1 posted the fastest lap time around the Top Gear Test Track by far compared to the other 700pp+ cars.

It beat out the 787B, R10, R89C, 92CV (Minolta), Escudo, 2J, C60 Hybride, CLK LM, GT ONE...

Basically every Group C, LMGT, and LMP car I've ever ran on the track, which are the best ones in the game. So my vote is the Audi R8 LMP, although you will have to suffer without a cockpit view.

I'll just give a quick overview of all the Le Mans cars in this game...most specifically all the cars that have their level at 23.

R10 TDI - Not quick enough.
R8 - Fastest of the lot.
R8 Team Oreca - I think somewhere in the middle...
McLaren F1 GTR - Good for its class but not against LMPs.
V12 LMR - Pretty fast.
Speed 8 - One of the fastest.
2J - Reasonable speed but looks like a washing machine.
GT by Citroën Concept - Lolwut.
Vertigo - Powerful, yes, but just not fast enough.
XJR-9 - Not enough downforce.
787B - Pretty reasonable allrounder.
Furai - Pretty sweet when modded.
CLK-LM - Alright speed, little outclassed though.
Sauber C9 - Great speed but a lot of tire wear.
GT-R Concept LM - Not worthy of Level 23.
R390 GT1 - Pretty good, but again outclassed by others. Plus the Road Car gets the same speed when fully modded and that's cheaper
R89C - Reasonable speed, middle of the pack perhaps.
R92CP - Very fast but again eats its tyres really fast.
Zonda R - Decent speed but not quite there.
Esperante - Just too slow.
Pescarolo '03 - Alright, but outclassed by the other two Peskys.
Pescarolo '04 - Much faster, good cornering, great at keeping its tyres right.
Pescarolo Hybride - Not too sure about this. Seems just a more powerful version of the '04 really.
905 - Superb cornering but suffers in a straight line.
908s - Both very good out of corners, very good all rounders.
Escudo - Lightning quick off the line but absolutely impossible to corner with.
GT-One - One of the fastest.
88C-V - Ridiculous speed levels and ridiculous tyre wear levels.
Toyota 7 - Decent out of corners but lousy down straights.

That should really give you all your answers

The best is widely believed to be the 01' Audi R8, followed pretty closely by the Toyota GT-One and the Bentley Speed 8, Imo. Group C cars can be almost just as fast though, just harder to drive! The newer LMP's have better downforce/stability

Very good reply sir. I think the Sauber and the R92CP are tied considering PP. The Sauber feels a tad too light for me and the R92CP fully tuned @ 1090 hp makes the car slide too much on more technical tracks. I also feel that the Audi R8 Race Car '01 is the best because it`s perfectly balanced and very fast.

I'll just give a quick overview of all the Le Mans cars [...]

McLaren F1 GTR (GT1)
GT by Citroën Concept (Concept)
Vertigo (GT1)
Furai (Concept)
GT-R Concept LM (Concept)
R390 GT1 (GT1)
Zonda R (not a Le Mans car)
Escudo (designed to go up mountains)

None of these are in the same class as the Group C/LMPs you mentioned so it's kind of a worthless comparison to make.

Frankly, if you want the best, the R8 Race Car is probably the safest bet, but if you want a cockpit then it's between the 908 HDI FAP or 787B, although I've never driven the R10 all indications (i.e. forum users' opinions) are that the 908 is easier to drive and therefore better. It's all well and good having the most powerful car, but if you can't control it or if it's unkind to its tyres, you'd be better off going for a less powerful one so you don't have to pit as often or as early. This is assuming you want to do the long endurance races with it, of course.

I don't think I've read this yet but if you were to run the Ferrari seasonal you could re-earn the cost of any of the LMP or Group C cars (except for the Chaparrals, which aren't even LMP cars anyway but can keep pace with them to an extent) pretty quickly.

Got to be the Mazda 787B with turbo fitted even though it's not as powerfull as the others you will still win.

@ C-ZETA I completely disagree with you on: R89C, 905, Escudo. The R89C is faster and easier to control than the R92CP (tested this several times with a friend). The 905 is also great on the straights, superb speed. The Escudo corners bad? Absolutely not, it corners BETTER than all LMPs. Out of all the LMPs the two fastest in terms of sheer speed are the Minolta and the GT-ONE.

The Furai can match them I know, the Escudo is roughly on par with them, the R390 GT1 comes close to them.

I don't know about the R89C myself, I haven't driven in it myself...but I know it's not as fast normally as an R92CP, just easier to drive as said and less hard on its tyres. The 905 is technically 'good' on the straight, just not as good as the others since it suffers from a lack of torque. And I find the Escudo pretty hard through the corners...too much drag on the car. Better than all LMPs is a hugely ludicrous claim to make, especially considering for example 88C-V, 787B, 905, all those I've tried.

Simply put the Audi R8 '01 is the best all around LMP car. I own them all and have tested and raced them all.

IMO:
Mercedes Sauber C9
Peugeot 908
Toyota 88C-V (Why does everyone call this car "Minolta"?)

The Audi R10 handles very well, but is this the slowest LMP racer in GT5?

It's easier and faster to say Minolta rather than Toyota 88C-V on a keyboard.

All LMPs are pretty much equal with soft tires on. It mainly comes down to preference/comfort.

Hmmm..

I heard the 787B was really good too, but I'm kind of more biased to buy the newer and premium models, because I only drive in cockpit view. But I'll think about the 787B.

787b is premium

I have acquired and tested several LMP's at "Sarthe Circuit 2009" for the fasted lap time possible. Here is the current leaderboard:

1. Minolta Toyota: 3:24.0

2. Nissan R92CP (portable garage): 3:24.5

3. Sauber Mercedes C9: 3:24.8

4. Pescarolo C60 Hybride: 3:25.8

5. Audi R8 Race Car (portable garage): 3:27.4

6. Bentley Speed 8 (portable garage): 3:28.6

7. Pescarolo C60 Peugeot Race Car: 3:29.5

8. Mazda 787B (portable garage): 3:30.5
