What do you think is the best rally car of all time? I'd have to say the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 E2 from 1986. Trust me, it was a brilliant rally car and had a good bit over 400 HP.

1990 toyota celica gtfour, was an amazing car in the hands of carlos sainz and Ari vatinen....and because I own one also :P hahaha. very well balanced car on loose surfaces

Audi Quattro easily, the car that revolutionised 4wd's out of SUV's and had around 500+bhp ;) just sad to see that Polyphony took their time to insert about 10 different evo's but no rally Quattro :( just the normal road version

The Ford RS200 might be the greatest rally car never to win a championship... it was too fast, too hardcore, and was partly responsible for the banning of Group B and the wild days of Rallying.

And man, it just looked hardcore. None of the pretense of looking like a road-going car, like with other Group Bs (aside from the Lancia Stratos, no other rally car ever looked so sleek), and it had an engine so powerful that it would reoprtedly eat itself alive if you twicked the boost up... wonderful...

It's a shame Ford's last RS200s never made it into the WRC...

This might the 90th version of this thread I have seen.

Edit] no wait it was the best looking rally car of all time.

Well aside from the fact that I thought pretty much all of the group B rally cars were amazing, I would be inclined to say that the 205T16 EvoII, lots of power, short wheel base extravagant aero's fantastic sound.

The Lancia S4 both turbocharged and supercharged and if anycar was the reason group B was cancelled sadly this was it, it lead or won every rally it entered.

Much as my heart wants to say BMC Mini, my head overules and I put forth to you the MkI and MkII Ford Escorts. Took the first World Rally Championship in 1979 and has been beating everyone in historic comeptition ever since.

The first driver's WRC - even though the WRC, in the form of the Manufacturer's title, started in 1973 with domination by the Alpine A110.

There's so many good performing cars I'd want, I couldn't stop at one.

Peugeot 206 (WRCar)
Toyota Corolla (WRCar)
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 (Group A)
Ford Escort Cosworth (Group A)
Lancia Delta Intergrale WRC (Group A)

And although they didn't win titles or races for that fact, I had a soft spot for the Seat Cordoba WRC.

:dunce: How did I get that so wrong? Thanks for the correction 👍

Lancia Delta S4

The Only rally car that had the brass tacks to kill Henri Toviven.

sucks that in GT2, it only had '210' HP or something like that.

Also the only racing car ever that had both a turbo AND a Supercharger in the same engine.

More like the only rally car ever that was so badly overpowered compared to its handling, which wasn't all that stellar to begin with, that even Toivonen couldn't get to grips with it despite being probably the most skilled rally driver ever.

In my opinion it has to be the Peugeot 205T16 - two years of running, two World Championships, can you improve from that?

And Audi's last Quattros weren't? 600hp, with 1000hp versions tested as well? Every single Group B car was far too powerful for it's handling.

I am going to agree on the escort. I have a rather large soft spot or all group B cars also, which was the best? the T16 I think.

100% correct... Escort was the best 2wd rally car of all time and the Quattro was the car that changed the whole sport.

Best 2wd rally car of all time was the Lancia 037. No other could fight, and win, against the 4WD cars, like this car could ... and did, in 1983, that saw Lancia emerge as WRC champion (even if the drivers title went to Hannu Mikkola, with the Audi)

Of course some of the best rally drivers in all the history of the WRC gave a litle help to this fabulous 1983 campaign (I'm talking about Walter Rohrl and Markku Alen).

Nay, Mk2 Escort was better. It won so many more rallies, including drivers and manufacturers championships, than the 037. It even won the drivers title in '81 despite the introduction of the Audi Quattro. In fact, it's still winning rallies these days, not just historic ones either!

One must never forget that the Escort formed the basis of this little hillclimb beast, which duked it out against single-seaters! Behold, Simon McKinley and his Warrior Escort:

We're talking about different things then. You are saying the Ford Escort Mk2 was the most successful 2wd rally car ever (maybe, I won't check stats). I was talking about the best (fastest) 2wd rally car ever. And this isn't detrimental to the escort, because the 037 is of course more recent and, therefore, much more advanced.
