Who was first to use CDs? Was it Sega?

I believe so, I remember renting one long before Sony's PSX ever came out, although, it seems the PSX quickly dominated the market.

It's not unusual for the PS2 or Sony to dominate, but by that much!!! The NES was the biggest suprise for me though. I thought it would have done alot better in the poll.

Super NES/Super Famicom is my "all-time" favorite system. Games for it were great, controllers were perfect(pre-analog).

Ahhhh, the Snes was awsome. Some of the best titles of all time were on it! I believe the Snes pad was the pioneer of the L R shoulder buttons. Which all pads use today.

Sega Dreamcast.
Why ? just because it has what Sony was too cheap to include in the PS2: an RGB output for connecting directly to a computer monitor.

I still play Granturismo2 on my Dreamcast ( with the Bleemcast CDRPOM emulator )

Too bad Sega couldn't make games as good as their hardware

The problem wasn't making good games - there were a TON of good games for the Dreamcast. The problem was that the damn thing would load burned games with zero modifications to the console and when the developers realized it they all stopped making games.

So in a way I guess you're right, but indirectly.

Well if the Jaguar is included, what about the craptacular Amiga CD32 and the Panasonic 3DO?
Anyway, I’m going with the SNES…so many fine memories.

Yep, SNES/Super Famicom are my favorite too.

I have the GT2/Bleemcast also!(Thanks for reminding me). But LoudMusic is right, I thought there were lots of great games for it too, but with piracy problem, it was losing a lot of money.

Wow this is tuff. It's a toss up between the SNES and PS2. Both these sytems I think changed the face of video games on a common level. SNES was well ahead of the other cartridge based sytems of the time in terms of processing power and available colours. They made head way with polygonal design and digital character mapping such as MK2 and Donkey Kong Country. Music actually started to become more than bleeps and blips. Though not much more.

PS2 took all the good stuff that the older systems built and refined it and upgraded the graphics tremdously. With it's large library of games, updated graphics, versatility (DVD player ect) and reasonable price (except when they first came out) everybody wanted one. This could have easily been Xbox territory had they come out with their sytem first.

Game Cube just doesn't have the adult appeal where as the PS2 accomodates both young and mature.

As for the other stuff? Mostly "also ran". I think the three "Standards Setters" are:

1. NES
2. SNES
3. PS2

1995_eclipse
1...Playstation 2
2...Gamecube (only for the resident evil games... especilly resident evil 4)
3...nintendo 64

Huh? I can't believe you say that N64 and Cube are among the best consoles ever! They are probably the biggest flops in modern computer game history.
