buy a used Subaru STi or Mishubishi Evolution

i got a silvia.

served me well.

until i won the 400R. i pretty much used that car exclusively for the first 25 percent.

You could always just complete all the licenses first. If you can get all the way to the Super License, you get the Sunfire GXP Concept (can win the FF challenge), the Nismo 270R (FR Challenge, the Japanese 90's cup where you win the 400R and several races in the pro hall when modified), the Cougar XR-7 (great for the classic car race) and the Lupo 1.4 which I think (not certain) can enter the Lightweight K Cup.

If you don't feel like doing that, the '94 Lancer and the '89 Galant are pretty decent cars for the money, I believe.

If you're a good driver and/or patient, you can get a bunch more cars to start the game, but that's a different story.

The first used car I picked up was a 93 S14 aero.....This car works great for my driving style. I was messing with it yesterday, and forgot what a cool car it is, because I was winning a bunch of new cars. :)

best way is to win the Mazda RX8 from License, and take it to Manuf. race (NA RX-8 challenge). you will be awarded with a nice RX-8 lm racecar. It should opens up your path.

bought one for the silvia races today, with only a few HP mods and racing tyres it killed the rest of them :sly:

Ditto. For the price of the car (got mine for something like $9000) it's hard to beat! It handles really smoothly and is quite forgiving. I've got mine up to something like 310 HP and it's just right for the stock chassis. Very stable and a 13.7 car in the quarter with a few mods. You could do much worse. I didn't even bother buying better sports tires for it. Any more power though and you may need to upgrade to soft sports tires.

With the above power, S2 tires and a stage 1 weight reduction I was turning 8:17 laps of the 'Ring with room for improvment.

Just use the cars you win, you get heaps from the licences, and the nationals arent hard to beat to silver, which offers up better cars, plus there are the driving missions which will also give you a few good cars. Plus all that will make you better at the game.

Lotus Carlton. Hard as hell to control at first, but a lot of fun to drive.

I agree, just got one of those not too long ago, it's a blast to drive! Nothing like swinging it's hugeness around those corners. :dopey:

As you can see, there's no real answer to your question. This isn't GT3, there's a staggering array of possibilities open to you at the start of the game, just pick one.

but as we say on my astronomy forum, the best is the one that you use.
if you cant use it anywhere or just dont use it at all then you have bought the wrong car :)

I got the '80 supercharged MR2, and did not find it very useful. I was not fast enough in it to win the beginner MR races. Never bothered to mod it because it was loose enough without more power, so would have cost a bomb to make it fast, and I sold it very early on in the game.

fun to drive but not a good first buy for me. The Ginetta G4 you win in the lightweight series is useful, esp. with a turbo and brakes. I hear you can win that series with a suzuki cappuccino (I used the Autobianchi I had won in the clubman or sunday series or whatever), so perhaps the Suzi is a decent first car.

The key to the old MR2's is to buy a custom transmission and do the tranny trick to get the first couple of gears tighter. Get a custom LSD to control the tendancy of the rear swinging around during corner entry. Then with the addition of a triple clutch and minor hp upgrades it is a fairly balanced car.

I've bought a 2001 Acura Integra Type R (see my signature) which have great performances. I'm using it regulary to do some smooth track meet :)

Great car, good acceleration, good top speed, really good handling (with suspensions settings). Thats a great car, you need to try it to feel it :)

my first car was an RX-7 type R, i forget what year. it was okay, not fast enough for me though. i sold it and bought a skyline like millions of other racers and it kicks ass. i even used it in rally races. the 700 hp didn't make it very easy so i had to tune it down, but it still got me the gold in the Grand Canyon rally.

I have a subaru impreza sti I bought and its great. the acceleration on it raises the front end so high It seems its doing a wheelie. It has nitrous, turbo, stage one light weight, custom tranny, flywheel, stage three clutch. It has great handling and it goes fast. and its used

I love the RX-7s. I've collected them all. My personal favorite has to be the Spirit R.
