Holy crap Tidgney, you're getting those kinds of times with the DS3?! O_O

Wow, I've really gotta step my game up. damn. This gives me a lot of hope.

Hey,

Ye I am :), just make sure you don't overdrive the car :) and are sensitive on the steering stick :P.

Once videos are up should help some people (As i am adding commentary) and might show some livestream laps with my pad :).

Thanks a ton dude, you're the man. I'm slowly working my times down on GP/F. I'm at 2:09.087 and can fairly consistently get my runs around that so it's only a matter of time. Suzuka is a beast though. I haven't tried it in a while because I want to finish GP/F before I jump in with that. Last time I tried it though, I was having trouble just getting my time under 1:07. Can't wait to see your driving! :)

Edit: Just did a run on GP/F of 2:08.697 So close! :O

Good to hear this guys, really looking forward to those videos. Got bronze from Suzuka about a week ago, haven't touched it since. But now, there's ... hope :)

aww keep going!! :D. I had some unlucky shots on gp/f had a 2:08.045 and 2:08.067 on that, they were irritating :P.

Well i go back to uni saturday and ordering the CApture card on the saturday so once ihave it and all plugged in will get busy with the videos :).

looking forward to getting my hands on this, is it as tough as everyone says?! Dont have the time to grind but the seasonal events are a good boost and im halfway to level 30 now.

Its veryyy tough. But I just got bronze at Monza after trying for 2 hours 👍 with a DS3

Dont know off the top of my head what my times were but I got gold on both Monze and Nur with a DS3....only prob is cant seem to maintain patience to even bronze Suzuka. Luckily my BF has the new thrustmaster ready to loan so in no time I'll be able to gift my Un-earned Carbon for the legit one

I did a little tinkering with the assists for Suzuka and found that it's much harder to control because input from the controller is much to literal i.e. there's no give at all. Essentially it means I lose the feeling of momentum so I can't get a flow around the cascading corners. It's actually mental to consider controlling the X1, using a pad, with assists on.

For suzuka on the esses you will have to break, but only slightly you can still get a 1:03 from this. Now the best spot is to break after the first part it will then give you full acceleration through second and third, break for 4th slightly and hit the apex of the 5th at 210. You want to do the corner before the split time at 160 mph for a PERFECT lap but 140 mph for a very good lap.

I never really considered braking before the esses because I usually come off the gas and let the torque (in 3rd gear) decrease speed around the first corner and use, if required, a slight touch of brake as I enter the second corner. From there I'm powering up to the third corner and letting the torque slow the car down just a tad before feathering the throttle to maximise performance through the third and forth corner.

The last (fifth) crescent left hander I usually try and hit in 4th gear.

I'll try braking a tad just before entering the first esses and see if it makes a difference.

Unsure what you mean about first part but i mean after the first corner theres a straight to the first left hander, go through at full pelt before the right hander break (Not to hard), and then accelerate this should put you far on the right hand side of the track which allows you to accelerate through the left hander.

The longer 4th bend obviously requires you to break so break your x1 should slide a bit to the right this puts you on the far right again, you should then look to hit the apex of the 5th left hander into the long left hander before the double right at 210 mph.

Now the 5th bend and the transition into 2nd and 3rd are the hardest parts of the esses and if you can get the position right you will be able to gain alot of time.

The double right hander i break slightly before the first as i find i can better position my self, now if your amazingly good you can fully accelerate i have done but then positioning for the right hander is much worse. I feel a slightly slower approach but faster through the corner is actually faster, as you have a larger straight after. I as stated earlier can take the second part of the corner at 160 on a PERFECT lap, 130-140 on a very good lap.

The hairpin you want your car to slightly slide on braking, you can scandinavian flick this quite well. (Your probably thinking it has to much grip but trust me the x1 can slide) as soon as you get the flick and feel the slide you accelerate and you should exit on the kerb exactly.

The spoon corner (Only corner name i know lol :P) you should break to 4th gear and accelerate through using all the kerb on the outside on the exit, in which i come down to second a PERFECT take of this corner is a 4th gear into 3rd gear, but 2nd still allows you to get a good time.

The chicane is quite an interesting their are several ways to take this although the breaking zone is basically the same. When the red line dints is where you break now the ways in which to take the corner;

1) Break and turn halfway between where you started breaking and the apex of the corner. The tail should come out slightly and allow you to full throttle from the apex through the second half of the corner to a huge speed bonus.

2) You can use the dirt on the far left of the track so under breaking just before the apex clip your back wheel on the dirt (Very hard to do, i for some reason do it quite easily know idea why lol) it will flick your car 90 degrees and also allow full acceleration through the corner.

3) NON RISK: Break slightly earlier than the dint and you should slow before the corner then accelerate through both of them. This requires very sensitive steering on the stick and is about .2 slower.

All the advice i can give on Suzuka i can get gold now i just have to put 2 very good laps together :P.

I got a low 1:04 time on my first lap even having cleared the boxes out of the way. Knowing that I could easily get gold with another clean lap, I got so nervous lap I flew off the track at the ford kurve.

*cries*

But...... You got a 1:04 sooo keep at it you'll get it! :D.

On a different note i noted the wrong apex speed on the 5th corner as i just did another 50 laps its 205 not 210 mph, for a perfect lap.

1:03.2 on nurburgring (Got gold)
1:04.1 on Suzuka (Nearly got gold)
58.1 on Monza (Gold)

Average: 100-200 laps practice a day

My best laps on a ds3, Nurburgring was about 600-1000 laps cant remember exactly, more 1000 starts 600 laps. I would also recommend that on the first lap you smash through the moveable barrier you loose .5 but on the second lap it reduces the risk of over breaking and you get the .5 back. It wont fail you. I did the low 1:03 without the barrier and on a proper lap so I know both ways are possible.

Aids: SRF/DL/ABS: On,On,1 rest off. Automatic
Controller Programming: Changed the L2/R2 to brake/accelerate to get the pedal feel.

Suzuka currently on 400 laps and will get gold within the next few days as i can get a 1:03 with a perfect lap on the ds3.

Monza is very easy, did that quite awhile ago.

Aids (First track i did): Manual, all aids off except driving line.

Will also be uploading videos of these when i get back to uni :).

I'm on dissability right now. So I'm home all day. I probably put down something like 200 laps a day myself. I've been trying to get some of the A-spec endurance races finished. Just did Indy and Laguna.

Damn, my hands feel like Beatrix kiddo's in that scene where she's trying to eat rice with chopsticks. lmao, I've gotta take a break. Fortunately, being a guitarist has calloused my fingers so that they didn't get too roughed up.

HELL YEAH! 2:07.793 Done with GP/F Freaking FINALLY! Just one more to gold on. Dreaded Suzuka.

Congratulations :), very well done!!! :D. Faster than my finish time that is :) as my gold was very scruffy :S.

Im a student so im only in uni 10 hours a week :P, and as i live with 2 girls i dont really get a choice of television so GT is next :P. I (Hate to say this as it sounds sad but id rather GT than TV) normally do about 300-400 laps in a day at the moment, but hey aslongs i venture into the outside world some time its all good right 👍

Thanks :D. I'm about to start again on Suzuka now. Ugh, I hate this track so much :(

Edit: Tidgney, could you tell us your split times on Suzuka?

My best sectors are (From memory)

First: 27.1 (But 26 is doable)
Second: Mid 50 i think it was (Low is possible)

Man that's fast. I managed to get a high 28 on my first lap on one and a high 27 on the second (I ended up messing up though). I improved my first lap time on Suzuka to a a 1:06.9xx, but it's still way too slow for gold. Getting through the S curves is such a pain. I'm getting better but I'm still not consistent with it. I'm too slow on the spoon curve and chicane too. My PS3 started doing this lagging thing that happens when I've been playing too long so I turned it off >_>;

Played suzuka for hours and my best time was 2:16,777 ... 0.277 seconds away from bronze. Now I gave up and could throw my PS3 out of the ****ing window. It gets so frustrating after a while.

I wonder if any beta tester tried this on a DS3...

I know this thread is about Suzuka - but, I was trying Monza over and over with the DS3 and couldn't get anywhere.
I decided to stop being lazy and got my wheel out........bang straight off I was 2 seconds under Bronze after my first couple of goes.
In the end I knocked 10 secs off my time in less than 10 mins by using the wheel.

I'm not trying again with the DS3 👍

Although I made a few mistakes, I finally managed to get bronze on suzuka (2:16,219) and got my X1.

This challenge is so hard it's ridiculous, but yes, you can do it with a ds3!

Don't give up and keep practising...

Man I hate Suzuka. I especially hate Spoon curve. It's like the people who designed this track sat down and said how can we make every turn on this course as unenjoyable and awkward as possible >:|

I practised today 'properly' for the first time. By that I mean I restarted about a million times after crashing/coming off on the first corner of Nürburgring GP/F.

So I decided to just drive casually around the course to set my first official time, even if it was miles away from even getting bronze. After yet another one thousand tries, I posted a time of 2:34.xxx :D

In fairness, this time included spinning out and coming to a complete standstill (but not, miraculously, coming off the track totally).

I know I can get at least bronze, but I just can't string together 2 decent laps; I always get at least the first lap right, but then get over-excited and muff the second.

What's irritating is that in GT5, we have endless races and events which are piss-easy to beat, but then this HUGE gulf in difficulty level to the Vettel challenge. There is no gradual learning curve for it. You feel like a child thrown in at the deep end and told to sink or swim...
