Speaking of the Sony 3DHDTVs is anyone planning on buying one ready for GT5?

Im not and I only purchased my 40" Sony V4000 18months ago and yet it already seems like an old fossil compared to what is already available.

No. My BRAVIA 46X3000 is doing perfectly well thank you very much, and nothing else I have is 3D compliant. I literally just yesterday took delivery of a KEF 5.1 system and an Onkyo amp. I bought the Onkyo knowing that the new replacement was coming out next month with HDMI 1.4 and all the crap that goes along with it. However, I didn't bother with it because I'd need a new TV, and the amp would have cost 30% more.

I fail to see the attraction of sitting in front of a TV with stupid glasses on, getting headaches from fooling your eyes and brain. When they manage to move away from flat panels into something that is properly 3D, then I might start to take interest. As things stand, it's an obvious marketing-led push to keep prices elevated and take advantage of those suckered into buying the latest and "greatest". If only they put as much effort as this into the actual image quality...
 
Right now I got a 48inch non-HD plasma, cost me 3 grand and, within about 6months Hd was out and prices were under a grand. I swore I was never going the "early adopter" route again.

As soon as 3D sets are out and I'm able to get a 50-inch 1080p 60hz screen for 2-300quid I'll be having one. 3D can wait.
 
I think 3D is a white elephant.

Consumer Electronic giants are always trying to think up ways for us to replace perfectly good televisions with new televisions.

They have fastened onto 3D hoping it's the next big thing on the basis of one big hit movie. No way is a 2D display faking 3D via funny glasses that give you headaches the way forward.

These companies have spent a lot on money developing these 3D televisions and I think it's going to bite them hard if nobody buys them.

I won't be happy if GT5's launch is delayed deliberately to coincide with Sony's 3D television launch.
 
I still play my ps3 on SDTV because graphic is not most important for me. In living room I have HDTV but as I say in my room I use SDTV with my PS3...

I'm sure I read that they are going to start around £3500.

If thats the case I will just wait, I have bought PS3 on launch day and a 1080p when they were new.

The TV was nearly half price 6 months later!!

They will be retailing at £2500 in the UK, however you will also spend another £175 on glasses/control box to watch 3D programmes. It is a 52-inch TV though, so it's a bit more than just 3D.

Remember what the first 1080p TV's were like though, they halved in price within 6 months and are now very affordable TV's. Like with any new technology, they won't be utterly fantastic in the 1st year, 2nd year however, they will be of better quality and nearer the £1k mark. Also, remember you won't need to splash out on a 3D compatible console.

The target market will grow as it gets more common as with the first 1080p TV's. It's just the next step in the TV process, don't be surprised to find non-3D TV's moving in to much higher resolutions either.
 
As I understand it the only diff with the 3d tellys is 120hz refresh the 3-d part is done by the glasses and the processor box. If that's the case then I reckon they'll stop making the 60hz units pretty quickly and that means they'll be selling off the old stock for a song.
 
^if that was the case, wouldn't they be selling old stock of normal LCD TVs for such low prices now? I got my TV on black friday in 2008, and it took it another 7 months for the regular prices to fall to the black friday price. It still sells now for $900 and it's only 46" 1080p 60hz LCD. I doubt 3D is going to catch on that fast so plain jane LCD and plasmas will not see huge price drops. If they do, people will buy them and not the 3d TVs.
 
Trick is get the timing right. Product lifecyle goes - introduction, growth, maturity, saturation and decline.

If you time it right between new tech sales becoming mature and corresponding decline of old units, the old stuff tends to get harder to get your hands on but waaaaaay cheaper. You can't rely on high street retail outlets, tho, the best saving come from specialty outlets. With the advent of the internet it's amazing what you can find now for pennies.
 
This whole 3D push feels so forced that I'm having a hard time not being cynical about it all. If they can come up with some tech that can do 3D without glasses that would be interesting but as of now I couldn't possibly care less about it. I haven't been waiting 5 years for 3D tvs and waggle controllers. I've been waiting for GT5. :ouch:
 
This is one time where being cynical is alright. 3D TVs are a joke and so are motion controls. Everybody's trying to cater to the 10 year old brats running around. When I game, I am relaxed. I don't need goggles or a wand to enjoy a game. I played Megaman 10 last night (psn demo) and God it was so fun because it's so basic. When we try to do too much we always do too little.
 
Noob question here, but do you have to wear glasses with these new tv's, coming from a big family might cause problems over who gets to wear them. I'm always missplacing my glasses too.

Unfortunately, yes you do (until they invent 3d contact lenses, we all will look like dork watching TV :sly:)
 
Yep, the consumer TV's that are going to be on sale soon will need glasses. They are electronic shutter glasses that need to synchronise with your 3D TV so aren't cheap either.

Motion controls a joke? The Wii completley sold out the PS3 and X360 (about as many Wii's sold as the PS3 and 360 together, that is huge!), they aimed for new audiences and damn was it a smart idea. Now people will get to play motioncontrolled games powered by the PS3 instead of the much weaker Wii. Will be interesting to see those sales figures. Can't see myself buying it, I enjoy playing games like you do but I wouldn't call the idea stupid.

Someone mentioned headache as a negative effect from watching 3D tv's, bare in mind this is not the same technology used in viewing 3d-films in the 80's/90's.

Surely it is the same technology used in the newest 3D films released and they still give me headaches. :yuck:
 
When I was a kid a friend of mine had the Sega Master System with big 3D glasses connected to the console...isshh it that was useless and bad for my eyes.
