It can be said that, when upgrading your car in GT Auto, it can get quite pricey. The RM kits don't come cheap, and the full aero kit for the McMerc SLR comes to 71,000 Credits(!).

However, all are respective bargains when you compare them with the aerodynamic enhancements you can give to the 300SL "Gullwing".

When I thought it would be a funny to see what splitters and spoilers would do to ruin the car's style and grace, I found out the only aero part available cost 19,000. I thought it should be pretty stunning to see if it was worth that much. And it was quite stunning to see. But not in the way you might think...

For 19,000 Credits, what the GT Auto crew in their silly caps and luminous yellow t-shirts do is remove the front and rear bumpers. And that's it.

Yes, it does make it look a bit more like Sir Stirling Moss' iconic 300SLR racer from the Fifties, and I do suppose it improves the car aerodynamically. But it's flippin' ridiculous to charge such in-game cash for something that can be done in the real world for free.

Of course, I can't complain too much, as it's way too easy to get money in GT5 (Ferrari Seasonal's La Sarthe race, anyone?) so it renders such an issue a mere nuisance instead of something that needs immediate rectifying. But it does find itself on my ever-growing "Why did PD do that in GT5?" list.

So, bringing the thread back on topic, do you also reckon that nearly 20K is a bit too much for removing bumpers? Do you think it doesn't really matter that much? Or have you experienced even worse value for money when upgrading your car in GT5?

I just did the math, and you earn twenty thousand credits in less than 8 seconds doing the La Sarthe seasonal. Nuisance, maybe. Problem, not really.

I'd happily pay 20K multiple times to remove bumpers (or other parts) from other cars, not just the '54 300SL (which does make it look a lot more like a period raceversion).
No it doesn't do anything regarding the performance, but then adding a front spoiler doesn't do anything either I believe.

It gives you adjustable front downforce, doesn't it? Maybe all the cars I installed aero kits on already had adjustable downforce, but I was pretty sure that was the point of the aero kit.

No, only fitting a rear spoiler makes the downforce adjustable (and only the rear downforce), the only ones where both are adjustable are the RM cars (and obviously all other racecars).

Hm! You learn something new everyday, I suppose. Gladly, I always thought they looked cool anyway, knowing now that they don't do anything .

I initially also assumed it would be adjustable (it sure would be helpful to reduce understeer on some cars) but to my surprise I discovered they were purely visual, and the vast majority not even visually pleasing.....

They do seem to provide a marginal amount of fixed downforce. I used to think the front splitters and rear diffusers didn't do anything, but after taking them off my gtr I gained 3 mph in the ssr7 tunnel. It seems they do have some small effect.

Good, I have dropped a lot of money on those 👍.

Are you really sure about that? Never noticed any effects myself but having a fixed amount of downforce would make sense weren't it for the fact it doesn't show in the amount of PP (which rear downforce does) which to me indicates it either isn't providing downforce at all or so marginal it's irrelevant.
Although with PD being PD there may be no logic at all.

a big rip off is the judd race car wing.
it only adds 10 more point or whatever they are called for downforce.
and it costs you a measly 500,000 credits. and it doesnt even change the look of the wing :(
and yes it does add a bit of downforce for front and rear bumper no matter what you buy

I am sure that the parts create drag and therefore (hopefully) downforce. I think the reason pp isnt effected is because the amount is very small and only effect the car's stability at very high speed. Another thing to consider is that you can adjust downforce a couple of points before the pp changes.

You should see the price for McLaren f1 full aero! It gives significant front df too

30,500 for the splitters on a Murcielago, 26,500 for the diffuser. It seems to vary pretty widely by car, the Gallardo is much cheaper.

Not like the money is hard to earn, if you're online-capable.

You can actually, I just went to GT Auto and there are 3 wings for the C60 Hybride, each costing 200,000 Cr.

You can't add any aerodynamic parts to any race cars, at all. None.
Mazda Atenza/Mazda6 Touring Car. NSX-R Prototype LM Race Car. Pescarolo C60 Hybride. 2005 Audi R8. The second two are glitches, but the first three are carryovers from GT4, where you could do the same thing with them.

If you read the description of the Pescarlo C60 It mentions that after the first year they changed the wing "extending it to its maximum allowable size", which is maybe why you can buy these wings.

It could just be meant to be a "aero package" like many teams add to their cars mid season.

Or have you experienced even worse value for money when upgrading your car in GT5?
At least paying for a wing does something for performance. I think the biggest ripoff in the GT Auto section is the car wash, those guys do a horrible job!
