A report saying that the M5 top speed will be increased to 305km/h from the only 250km/h but unfortunately, it's only available for the German market. The Manual transmission is only available in the US just like the E60 M5. Overall, some should be happy at least there's a manual tranny...

[Source - BMWBLOG.com]

EDIT: The 7-Speed DCT is confirmed to be the standard gearbox...

Meh, can't see BMW releasing an M model with a slushbox.

The last M5 was flappy-paddle only...where you live. it was available with a manual transmission...of all places...Here in the U.S. exclusively.

Hope the manual isn't too bad for the car. Read about the 550i a while back and it said something about how the manual transmission felt behind the times. Then again, I doubt the take rate for manual-equipped cars will be huge.

Not sure about the 550 but on the E92 M3 the difference between 6spd and teh DCT is very big. It feels as if it gained 50 more HP due to having more, shorter gears keeping it in the power range longer.

I wonder which manual they are going to put into the F10 M5. If I remember correctly, they more or less put the E39 M5 manual into the E60, and people complained it didn't fit the car and didn't work well in that application. Would this manual be the M3 unit, or another new one?

Oh, and apparently the new concept release date is of all days, April 1st. I can't tell if that's true of if it's an April Fools joke.

I don't think that E9x M3's transmission could handle the power of the M5..

Yup, saw those pictures over on the M5Board. They are saying that it was leaked by a Russian outfit, and has been confirmed to be authentic by at least one other person in attendance of the event.

I'm excited about the pictures. I really like how it looks; for the most part, I think it has a nice balance between subtlety and aggressiveness. Something between the E39 and E60 if you will. However, not a big fan of the back, the rear bumper area is a little too busy. Also, still not sure that I'm digging the side grills on the front fenders.

Everything on the car looks great! I was really excited when I saw the images - like Crash said it has a balance of subtlety and aggresiveness. However, I don't really like the side grills. Looks like something isn't quite rightly done.

I think I'll change my mind about the side grills, it actually looks fantastic in detail compared to E60's and the presence of side indicator included in it like the M3 is going togive it more looks...

e60-m5-f10-m5-photo-3.jpg

Also the side profile of the F10 looks much stronger than the E60 with the long and deep line going along the side of the car. Overall, it's still the best to me than any other likes of E63, RS6...

Just the facts:

  • Subdued styling perhaps more than the E60
  • First of the new generation M cars to adopt a turbocharged engine
  • Better dynamics with likely a smaller engine footprint compared to the V10
  • Double clutch transmission with drivelogic system similar to M3
  • Torque vectoring differential – is this diff similar to a two wheeled version of what’s on the X6 M?
  • Start/stop tech to improve the M5s fuel economy
  • Less of an integrated exhaust and rear diffuser
  • Front apron, designed exclusively for the BMW Concept M5,features three large air intakes, the dimensions which are precisely oriented towards the high cooling requirement of the engine and its ancillary components.
  • Black grille sporting a honeycomb design
  • 20-inch forged rims are fitted with tyre size 265/35 ZR20 at the front and 265/35 ZR20 at the back
  • Discreet rear spoiler located on the boot lid serves to optimise the car’s aerodynamics
  • Active M Differential

Yes, but a automated manual (both single, as in the last gen M5 or dual clutch as we'll see in the new gen M5) is not a 'slushbox'... a slushbox is a traditional automatic gearbox with a torque convertor.

BMW will not fit a traditional automatic gearbox to a M3 or an M5.

A picture of an engine has been put up in the internet.

bmw-m5-f10-engine-655x491.jpg

  • 570-horsepower
  • 530 lb-ft of torque
  • 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds though lower time is expected
  • 7-speed M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic (Confirmed)
  • Manual option will be offered for US customers
  • New base price around $100,000 mark
  • Debut in the third week in June and will be present at the 3-day M Festival at Nurburgring

Power figures are a bit off. Pretty sure that should be 560ps, 552hp.

From BMW:

• World premiere of a newly developed BMW M high-performance engine: high-revving 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo package – consisting of Twin Scroll Twin Turbo technology, cross-bank exhaust manifold, High Precision Injection petrol direct injection and VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control; 412 kW/560 hp at 6,000 – 7,000 rpm, maximum torque: 680 Newton metres (502 lb-ft) from 1,500 rpm; lag-free power delivery, typical M car thrust.

The new torque is much-appreciated, and the return of the V8 grumble will be absolutely fantastic. I'm looking forward to the first of the tests of the new F10 M5. Although, I'll be the first to say it... I still think the E39 will be better.

Looks good too:
ot_615111_717.jpg

Can't wait for the first reviews, the extra torque will surely be a welcome tool to move all those 1,870 kilos.

The dyno graph of the F10 versus the E60...

Official-F10M5-torque-curve2.jpg

Not just the exterior got an improvement, the interior also received a massive improvement as an M car. The torque available as low as 1500rpm is mighty impressive! But a shame at least the V8 TT will never rev like a N/A V10 like its predecessor...

Is that really credible? I mean, the torque curve is so flat that a snooker ball would stand still on it.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's just a prediction based on the official spec sheet.

Definitely a prediction because as you know, no one has ever took the car out for a dyno unless someone can break into BMW's data

But still, from the power figures that BMW released for the 1M was actually a little bit less than what it really is capable of, the F10 could be even better!

E39 is probably the best iteration of the M5 thus far. Perfect mix of tradition, simplicity, luxury, and muscle. And the prices are getting pretty reasonable...

Any E39 could be argued as the best iteration of the 5 Series alone. But let's be honest, BMW did play it pretty conservative with that generation; nothing against it.

As for the F10, love it. Bet it makes a mean noise. :D

It's easy to get a torque curve like that. Design a turbo that can provide 1,000,000,000 horsepower and then cap off the torque electronically (as Nissan did with the GT-R).

Some comparison pictures with the W212 E63 AMG...

In my opinion, the M5 gets it all especially in the interior.

Theres nothing like a Mercedes! The finishes, the leader, the class, the refinement! Ive been in M6, M5 and drove many times a 335d and they look pretty much the same:indiff:!

1870kg minimum weight? No wonder it's so slow off the line..

I like the simplicity of the M5's exterior, but the Mercedes has the best interior hands down. I've never liked BMW's interiors. :yuck:

1870kg minimum weight? No wonder it's so slow off the line..

Apparently the E63 AMG and the E60 M5 has about the same weight as the F10 M5.

EDIT:

So I went to the fastestlap website to look for the new 1M time around the Nordschleife but surprisingly, look now whose in 3rd place!

It says the car was driven by Autobild, but no one has yet to clarify whether it's legit or not.
