Body modding, custom tuning and GT5...

I agree sqd and yet they want to label this the real racing simulator. Well in a real racing car you can change the size and width of the tires. Also functional aero parts are a major part of it and what about engine and drive train swaps? I have to say in terms of customization and parts as well as cars FM3 is killing this game. Every car in forza has a dash view. The mod options are better ie engine swaps, cams, pistons, and so forth. Not to mention you can tune things like tire pressure. The only area, imo, where this game shines is the dynamic weather, rallying and graphics.

Yes, forza 3 is the king of custom, but really if you like cars, it is cool to test different games and systems, it isnt fun to just have forza and xbox, ps3 and gt5 will be another experience aswell, allthough the premium car list is ****** up. I have played forza3 for 8 months, doing races, customising, photoshoots etc, and its time to test those things in another game.

Also not being able to upgrade and tune brakes is super ridiculous. I mean this is a major part of tuning and upgrading and is just as important as the tires on the car. They have had 5 years to build this game and the product that they left us with is sub par IMO. I just hope that maybe some of this is fixed with DLC and updates in the future.

i am utterly disappointed with PD and how they handled "Customization"...

i mean this game drives like a dream... BUT.

i can NOT put wheels on STANDARD cars!!??!?! :ouch: WTF PD???

what about the rest of the 800 cars?

and the wheel selection so minimal... :guilty:

i guess i set my hopes too high for GT5...

I think Gt5 doesn't simulate brake fade. And "bigger" discs with better cooling capability will not make a difference. I guess that's the reason why you can't upgrade brakes.

hey guys just wanna share my camaro '10 with racing modification

Some one has been putting in a lot of time driving.

Ugh, bought an S15 Spec-R yesterday. A car that has about a million aftermarket aero parts for it (especially functional ones, I don't want ricer-kits of course).

All I could choose from was a front lip, and two rear wings. Nothing else :/

Try the premuim S-15 at the Nissan Dealer Ship.

You can do that all in GT5 expect add decals and sponsors

You can't put a bodykit like that on anything in GT5.

You can't get the stance of the Driftworks S14 in GT5.

As yet I haven't even SEEN the TE37 wheels that the Driftworks S14 uses.

Can you paint your wheels that colour of orange in GT5? Only if you find a car that exact colour and then you can only use it once. No samples, no trial run, no undo, once it's done it's done forever.

Can you buy another set of stock TE37's in the same colour as the ones you painted over? No, you can only buy one of any colour/wheel combination per car, even if you then paint it afterwards and lose that original colour/wheel combination you can't get it back.

I'll try it infact, I am going to attempt to recreate the Driftworks S14 and I bet you I'll end up with a black S14 with a little front wing kit, carbon fibre bonnet, generic drift wing and not-so-fluroescent orange'ish TE37's (assuming I can find the TE37's when they randomly appear in the GT Auto area).

Not exactly "you can do all that but the livery" now is it?

Remember, larger brakes also reduce stopping distance and brake lock-up though, as well as improving brake modulation. All of these are modeled in GT5 as I recall. 👍 Also, you can change wheels on premium cars, which has no apparent effect on performance. So the reason brakes were left out can't be because there is no performance benefit.

Brake fade aside when you change tyres on a car that offer increased grip better brakes can improve your stopping distance. The overview of how brakes work posted earlier in the thread is too simplistic, optimum brake performance when slowing your car down means that you have enough braking force to overcome the the turning force of the wheels completely at any and every point when slowing down in a straight line under maximum grip conditions and ideally the wheel lock should require the amount of force applied to the brake pedal that suits the driver. This allows you to have absolute progressive control over your brakes with complete predictability. Standard brakes with race tyres are in most cases unlikely to provide this.

All that said in the real world brake, wheel and tyre upgrades are probably the most misunderstood upgrade. The science of slowing down a vehicle is complex and the majority of people do not have a grasp of this science and how to achieve the optimum stopping performance from their car. It is not uncommon for people in the real world to upgrade combinations of wheels, tyres and brakes and actually reduce the performance of their vehicle. Even major manufacturers have got this combination wrong, a upgrade package offered by HSV as standard on one of their models when tested by Top Gear actually increased lap times over the standard wheel tyre combination of the base model. Anyone who has a serious desire to improve the performance of their car will always consider the upgrades of wheels, tyres and brakes as a package and they will take it to a qualified specialist to design this entire package.

A perfect sim would have separate accurate physics engines for the wheel, tyre and brake options it includes providing for a realistic simulation of the performance changes these provide good or bad but for most people this would provide a frustrating trial and error process of upgrading because an understanding of the engineering in these systems is required to obtain a predictable result. Most people do not have a grasp of brake system maths and at best have an incorrect simplistic view that bigger is better. Accurate simulation in these areas could result in a less enjoyable and frustrating gaming experience for many.

GT is a "game" that simulates driving a car. I do not know if brake physics are fixed on each individual model within the game but since this game is designed to appeal to anyone at any level I do think it is more ideal for a game like this to assume tyres and brakes as a package and upgrade both at the same time to a set ideal combination to maximise the gaming experience for all gamers at any level from novice to expert. If this is what GT5 is doing the one improvement I think they could have made to the game is to explain that tyres and brakes are upgraded as a package as they should be in the real world.

The modifications are not that big :/ I haven't seen one car where i can add a rear bumber, what's the point of having the option if no car has one? One car probably does have the option to choose a rear bumper but still.

I like the fact though that any visible modification (Ride Height, Camber etc) Is visible when you view your car :D

The Tamora's aerodynamic upgrades are front and rear carbon splitters, front canards and an ugly wing.
Not sure they would help too much with the insanity of a TVR.

I'm about to purchase GT5... but one big question is pending.. How customizable are the rims/ tires? Can you custom your camber / width/ offset /tire size on wheels? I just want to know how far in customization GT5 actually let's us go...

yes, I love stanced cars haha!

I just bought some premium wheels for my Civic and I think I was only able to change the color. Also just received confirmation that you can't change colors unless you win a car that has that color. And you seriously can only use it one time on either a car or the rims and after that, it's gone.

The premiums have the racing modification option but it's about 100,000 for my Civic and I don't get to see what it'll look like before I do it. And with autosave seemingly impossible to turn off, I'm not about to try it.

So, short answer is (I think) no.

Thank you! I too assume that "wheel tuning" won't be possible, far to detailed. But that's bull crap! you can't see how your modifications would look like before you upgrade it?!?! and wheels you earn and color is all a one time use? that's so dumb!!! GT5 better update or change this.. if they can..

Possibly because people wanted more modification, even though the official car list does list them as different vehicles. Idk, go figure.

Ya, but it kind of makes it cheap. It leads people into believing that most premiums can get it, but like not only 5% of the cars actually do. I really hope they add more cars for RM with patches.

I don't think PD will ever change.

Hey, here's a feature, but I'm going to be obtuse and you'll only be able to nibble on the platter before I take it away.

I haven't trollled through the 60 odd pages on this thread but.
Has anyone noticed there's no brake upgrade?
Also old cars with no CAT on them now have?
