Body modding, custom tuning and GT5...

I for one would like to see some mild, functional body kits and spoilers. Nothing like on Fast and the Furious, but more like something that would come from the factory. Example: small air dam and spoiler in front, sporty side sills below the doors, a mild rear bumper extension around the exhaust tip(s), and a spoiler that isn't more than, say, 4 or 5 inches high (unless it's like the Mitsubishi or Subaru spoilers). On the subject of exhaust, I say you should be able to change the exhaust, but no coffee-can tips! They should have complete exhaust system upgrades, as well as small yet stylish chrome tips, from companies such as Borla and Pacesetter. Plus, aftermarket exhaust kits should also look different and not sound the same and not like crap either (especially not on muscle cars!).

I'd like the ability to turn my car into a proepr GT racer, rally car or touring car ect. Thats not like in fast and furious or need for speed but it's not mild. I don't see what people have against the idea of bodykits, race cars use them all the time.

One thing that would be nice is what if you had the choice to have bodykits ok, but you could choose to give yoru car certain unique bodykits like....different genres of racing kits, like for every car that is stock you would have choices between the bodykits to make it a: DTM Touring car, JGTC (Super GT) Race car, Le Mans Race car, Rally Race car, LM Race car, or hell why not CUSTOM to where if any of you have heard of or played, Super Car Street Challenge, you can morph body parts but only make it better in GT5 by maybe letting you create your own parts, body kits, the gill slits over the wheels (DTM) I mean I may be crazy but I love the way the DTM sports over lap their wheels the way they do, those overfenders are so beautiful and I think every car would look great with them especially the Mercedes SLR McLaren, now that car would be amazing anyone else maybe have these beliefes or anything similar?

yeah, i think there should be a huge amount of customizable options to make the cars look and perform just as you would like them.i think with the skills, experience, and manpower of PD, this isnt too much of a task for them. i mean blue ray holds around 50 gigs. and i dont think gt5 would lose focus. i mean its all about racing in the end, why not add a few other things to make it more interersting and personal.

nissan man
Say No To Neons!

(even though they add 150bhp LMAO)

HAH!!

What I don't get is that when you change the exhuast in gt4 the size or the shape doesn't change. Ok I got a 700hp supra with exhuast tubing the same circumfrance as my pinky, I DON'T THINK SO!! ...they need to change that.

I bet they'll do it though, I don't think they'll go as far as neons (thats a lil', how should I say ...homosexual), they'll prolly do like some suttle front lips, maybe a rear diffuser , hood vents, and or carbon parts you that can actually tell are carbon.

-edit-

Maybe like a story mode, where you take a car you pick first becomes like a GT car of some sort...
The begining I chose an RX-7 FD use it to its full potenial in regular track racing and I want to go to thenext level with my car... maybe swapping out the motor? adding a kit like the one on the RE Amemia FD (...*drool*)... lightening the body weight gut the car. Slowly changing it into a car that can been used in a JGTC kind of race?

How about that?

Well actually they did put neons in it, not on all cars just on the nissan skyline in tuner village, the BLITZ skyline has neon I think purple, or blue or mixed I dunno but they do have neon on that car none the less

omnispeed has a point, if maybe they have many different body kits no more leaving the cars....so stock I mean do any of you ever look at yoru car when racing with it and just sit there and say damn it's so narrow I mean I don't like narrow cars I don't know about anyone else but I want a wide racing body car, like the race cars but it should be up to you if you label it the way it is and why not be able to change the colors of the racing cars to make them unique and they need to do something about those races too, if you have a car in one race doesn't it tick you off to see they have it in there too? Not only that but once they get that car out they add all these stronger cars and make it hard, but anyways I think it would be nice to make your car unique as someone said, not a ricer but a nice race car you can call yoru own, one where your car is unique, no other car is like it at all, no car on earth is the same as it, that would be nice

M3 GTR Race Car
...why not be able to change the colors
I agree with this also, I would like to color my car!!! Any color!!! I'm sick of always choosing the same color... (i try to go with a unique color to all the cars I buy) ...but usaully I pick the same colors (black, silver, red, or white sometimes I think out of the box and pick green :dunce:👍 ). And why dont they add a color your rim part too while they're at it, with an option for a polished lip...

oooooh!!! and lets us be able to change the offset of the rims!!! :sly:

Omnispeed, I totally agree with the exhaust comment, that has bugged the crap out of me since GT1, so does the size of the brakes, when you put racing brakes on, they should be bigger.

I think if you are going to be able to change the color of your car, it should be damn expensive, just like it is in real life..

As far as bodykits and crap like that goes, I dont want to see any huge, rediculous crappy blingy designs in GT..ever. It would be cool though if you could have a choice of, say front bumpers and lip spoilers that had a set of advantages/ disadvantages for the car. e.g. One could be really slippery for straights but might produce some lift, another could produce positive downforce, but reduce top speed due to high air resistance, one could produce better airflow for cooling of engine, brakes, turbo etc. in the engine compartment but have lots of drag. None of this would have to be entirely true, but at least it would add something to the game..

At the same time, I would like to be able to leave the car totally stock and still be competitive.. thats the only reason I can tolerate NOS being in GT4 at all. This game isnt NFS and wasnt meant to be, it should not have to be compared to games like that, its on a totally different level.

Maybe so....but more times than never people get kinda bored with racing with normal cars that look so bland and stock not many people like NFS but at least with their body kits and looks it could keep you entertained enough to keep playing it and not get bored of it so quickly i.e. the thread on if people got bored after the selling of Gran Turismo 4 and the more I read the more I saw people were bored of the game pretty fast. That says something even though GT4 is a wonderful game and has mastered feats other games could not measure to, they could add the looks to the cars and not make the stock cars sleepers....

I think they should only add parts that effect the driving. Coloured rims and what not are kinda pointless as you don't really seem them and unlike NFS/Midnight Club isn't the premise of the game. People may have got bored with it quicker but I think people just jumped on the bandwagon. I have a few friends who hadn't brought a previous GT (played them though) and brought GT4 when it came out as their first because they had NFS/Burnout/Midnight Club and liked driving games so assumed they would like the Real Driving Simulator.

I also think the reason you see so many people on boards complain about the boringness is because more people brought it on hype this time thinking it would be something completey different (or expected NFS if this was there first GT game).

While I may be wrong on all counts, I think that they shouldn't cater to these people. If you want that buy that game. If they chuck it in and the game is still excellent I won't mind, where it will annoy me is if the game comes in a bit average and they have spent lots of time on modifications.

But I still think performance mods should be the only mods. Bodykits can add/affect aero so I would say yes. Bigger muffler I also say yes because it's a performance mod so they shoudl get the visuals right. Painted rims no.

Again this is only my opinion. What I would like to see in GT5 though are the return of race models for you car. I don't like how I have to buy a race model (a hand full) where as in GT2 most cars had the option of upgrading the car to race spec. I liked that.

Engine swaps I think should be limited to a majority of the real world swaps. Like Nissan/Toyota/Honda swaps between models in each brand. While someone COULD swap a Supra engine into a Silvia, in the real world they are going to swap a Skyline engine due to compatibility and cost. Same as a Honda Civic, more likey to get an Accord engine rather then a Chev LS1.

Drive train should also be realistic and engine related. There is no point changing a Civic to rear wheel drive if the engines are limited to mainly East-West configuration. 99% of cars after the most common engine swaps are the same drive train. There are exceptions like WRX and Skyline's which can go from 4WD to 2WD (or 2WD to 4WD in some Skylines cases), but that is already implemented in GT4 so not really a feature (can adjust the drive between front and real wheels to a minimum 5% and some Japanese racing WRX's and Skylines are real wheel drive only).

I would love to see greater emphasis on tuning each part, maybe licenses based on car setups. They give a rough pointer of how to setup maybe the suspension and you tune it until you go fast enough to qualify. For example I prefer cars to be very loose in the rear and drive them with a bit of kick out the back every now and then. I can beat most of my friends yet they can't drive my setups (they want to know why I won so try out my car). I also have a few that are just as fast or faster but I end up under steering the car around the track.

I just think maybe not a license, but a few tutorials on how to setup a car with actual driving sections so you can feel the difference rather then sitting there reading and thinking, "oh yeah, makes sense", then arsing it up on the track when you try to tune it to how you were told only.

zujik, you have a really good point there about the setup licence tests.. I think people tend to stay away from setups in GT4 because you can truly get yourself into a HUGE hole if you dont keep track of what does what. Also some people seem to not be able to sense the difference in setups, so that would be a really good addition to the game.

Ive noticed around the boards that people are *still* complaining about the difficulty of GT licence test, there seems to be huge lobbies to lower the amount and difficulty of the tests. I totally disagree with that, IMO if you are the kind of person who will really be interested in the GT series for what it is, a great simulator and teacher, you will appreciate the tests.
I learned alot about the physics and handling of real cars from licence tests in GT, and the written lessons in the manual for GT1, and I think I actually felt much more comfortable and performed much better than I would have the first time I took my real RX8 to Watkins Glen this past summer. My instructor actually told me he would have thought I had previous experience on a track.. I think this had alot to do with GT.

I hope, that there will be slightly more licenses, and tests
If you cant drive a virtual vehicle, dont play with it :P

The only bad thing, that i dont have money for ps2, and ps3; for gt4, and possibly for the gt5 :@
but i hope that it will be a much better game (maybe i will use some kind of emulator) :P :P :P

i would like to see body kits from real maufactors like for example: BMW=Hartge,MPOWER,B Tuning, Alpina
Mercedes=AMG,Brabus,Lorinser,Carlsson
Porsche=Hamman,Mantey,etc

and all the other 700+ cars should have their originall body kits to buy.

what you guys thing about that??

Having colored/painted rims isn't that big of a problem! I mean, sometimes people can get too carried away, but several decades ago you could get painted rims on vehicles from the factory, and they especially looked sweet with the chrome trim rings! No spinners, no dubs, need offset choices, rim size choices, rim width choices, and tire size choices (any wheels other than stock on the muscle cars look like crap because of the large tire profile).

Side note to what buick mentioned about the wheels, I dont see a problem really with painted wheels either. Actually I think Porsche still allows customers to get the wheels painted to match the car, sometimes it looks dumb, ill admit, but its out there, and you can do it.. so why not even if its only available for the wheels where you can get it like that from the company (I think Momo has a set out where you can get sections of it painted to match the car)

Another issue about tires, I think since it does affect the performance, you should have a choice of wheel diameter and tire width/ aspect ratio as well. Wheel width changes should be available too, along with corresponding tire sizes that will fit that wheel.

I'm newish...posted a couple of posts but never introduced myself...Just realized that might be some sort of "netiquette" violation. Name's JF and I live in Montreal Quebec. I am a fan of GT and am eagerly awaiting GT5...Now, onto the topic:

I read all posts up to page 5, then I got too upset. Here's why: My impression was that the GT series is about cars. Not exclusively racing, not exclusivelyy modding or anything else. Just cars and the things you can do to cars within the realm of possibility. "the Real Driving Simulator", for me, does not mean "Racing sim", "Drifting sim", or "modding sim". All it means is that the game simulates driving a car. What car is entierly up to you.

This said, I think GT should include ALL FACETS OF AUTO ENTHUSIASM. Why do you think they offer drift/racing settings? I agree that with online play, there should be more personalizing. I also agree that neons and hotrod tape are lame, but that's my choice... I see the addition of performance hindering parts as a great thing! For one, with those, we will see the people who build a car for show VS those who build it for speed. This would bring a new dimension to the game. No longer will people feel comfortable "tuning" their cars by simply buying what's most expensive. Most people will have to be careful when chosing parts because, as in real life, you have to know what you are putting in your car. I don't know, I think that would make the entire experience more rewarding.

Even online, I would love to race and make people realize that, you know, "you were slower than everybody else in this race... perhaps all that extra wight you added with neons and spinnies might not be ideal for racing..."

Look, all the purists would still be able to play the game as a trus gearhead and tune for hours to reach peak performance, and the guy who likes pretty shinny things will be able to race hi looker with other lookers if he wants...

The only way GT could end up being NFS is if they got rid of tracks to give us a city with traffic (not going to happen) or start shooting some Screamo at me during the menues instead of that coolass elevator jazz...

That was my opinion...it was long, but that's only me....

Welcome to GTP.

I agree with most of what you say there, I would limit the apprearence of items like neons and spiners ect in races though and use them for photomode and things like that, having them in the game wouldn't effect me, I'd just never use them, but they shouldn't be allowed in races, maybe have a custom race feature where you can allow/dissalow them but that's all.

Thanks for the welcome... Got to go get me a Datamax thingy to get in on those weekly race things... I've been doing Infenion quite a bit...

Yeah... I know where you are coming from... i don't want to see spinnies on a GT car either, but i figure the guy who goes for those is adding alot of weight to his race ride... At that point, it either becomes some sort of bravado thing where a guy is that good that he can afford to disadvantage himself in order to look pretty (very subjective...I personnaly think spinning wheels are an abomination) or some guy will learn that cosmetics come in distant second when racing...and he'll probably learn that the hard way. After getting laped every single race and getting more than his share of blown tyres, he might think twice about putting tupes of glass under his car...

I guess that's just a flipside... As long as PD stays classy, I don't think they can ever turn Gran Turismo into an urban themed game. Unless they let Singular do all the in game adds...!

The main reasons I don't want to see them on a race is beacuse when you go and watch Super GT or LeMans they arn't allowed, it wouldn't be realistic to have cars racing with thoes on. The other side is I wouldn't want to AI to use it, ever.

Understood... My comment was relating to the online race editor you mentioned. I, also, would not care much for a Le Mans race featuring rice rockets in the single player game...

Yeah, if someone wanted to create a custom race that allowed for that, fine by me, I probably won't be in it, but it's not doing me any harm being there, but stuff like that should be limited to photomode, your garage obviosly and custom races online or off if the game allows it.

Yes. I'd like modest side skirts, or if it's by a real company, I'd like the company bodykits (a la Amuse). I'd like to see colors that'd be like pearlescent and such.

Hay every one im into drifting i think it's awesome. Any way on that point i would like to see maybe new rims like the size and the profile of the tyre. Body kits yes if they serve a purpose and they are from a licenced company.neons maybe they would be ok for drifting because that is all about looks. but instead of neons and spinners and big dragons and stuffi would prefer to be able to tune your turbo and change youre tire psi and cam shaft and like dyno your car and change the ecu do u can have more tourqe or more kw and your rev range and things like that but bodys kits and coulours and low profile rims would be nice and promotional stickers thanks.
And neons and spinners may make u feal big and special but you will always be small down there lol. Ohh also blow off valves would be nice and mufflerr tips. So just enough to make it look like a sports car but not a riccers car and more carbone fiber.

If they do have bigger rims and tires available, or even smaller, they should have it where you go slower or faster, respectively, because of your gearing.

Rim size doesn't have a huge effect on speed, it does affect it but only in a small way, it has a bigger impact on ride and cornering.
