Mecromuncer released today for Borderlands 2!!! Released a week early.

EDIT:
I tried out the mecromancer last night and wow she might be my new favorite character. Her power drops out a gigantic robot that is equal to having a flying Wolverine on your side that shoots out lightning and lasers. We had 4 players last night with these things just destroying everything in sight. :)

The skill tree on the left also allows the robot to replenish the shields of team mates once you get to the 2nd or 3rd row. I always build my characters for team support so thats the tree I will be building. Really enjoying that character a lot.

Well some people got the new character already on xbox, so far nothing for Steam yet which kinda sucks. I really want to see how well I can do back at the start.

For PC players it looks like 10 am PT, so in about 2 hours should have the new character.

Assassin is way too much fun. I did the commando route in the first BL and honestly it was way too easy with that turret, I feel a lot more challenged this time through but nothing ridiculous yet. Have been soloing with assassin the whole time and have never really had issues. His melee can be very powerful if used correctly, and deception is nice for sniping or when you're getting mobbed.

There's an update for the Steam version, 562.7MB, I'm going to have to go ahead and guess this is Gaige.

got me up to level 6 with the new one, and well so far so good, still get to keep those crap weapons to begin with.

I was playing as Zer0, attempting to finish the game, most of my co-op partners were low level Gaiges. After about half an hour of unwillingly helping people power grind I decided to do the same elsewhere (as cheap as it is) and got to level 8 without getting off the first quest with her. I feel dirty. Then I went back to Zer0, got a few helpful people joining and finished the second playthrough. No decent loot though! There was one purple handgun and someone else grabbed it but I'm not bothered about that.

I can't decide what would be better for levelling the other four characters all the way to 50, focusing on one at a time or using a different one each time I play...

I would do one at a time, I am level 6 on the new one, and 44 I believe on zer0 and I plan on maybe finishing up or close to it on zer0 tomorrow

That's what I'm thinking, but I wonder if getting right to the end then starting aaaaaaall the way back at the beginning again four more times will get a bit old. Then again all of my characters are at least level 8 now and Gaige is the only one that I have yet to reach Sanctuary with, so.

I forgot I was holding on to my five remaining keys for when I reached level 50, so dutifully went and spammed the chest. Each time was guns! The first two were pairs of handguns, the first set were very disappointing and the second set was better but not much better. Then I got an SMG and an assault rifle which were pretty good, but then I got a pair of sniper rifles which were excellent, and I finished up with a sniper rifle and an assault rifle. I've uploaded the screenshots of each to my Steam profile if anyone's interested in what level 50 loot looks like, the link is in my sig.

Edit: Oh yeah, after you finish TVH all vending machines and chests scale to level 50 and I've seen nothing but level 49-52 enemies.

I will eventually finish, probably would give it a shot tomorrow if what I am doing now finishes.

Hi everyone. Quick question. I heard that this game really shines as a multiplayer game and that it can be pretty dull to play solo. Is there any truth to this? I am interested in the game but I will most definitely be playing solo. Is it still worth buying?

Thanks everyone. Any input is appreciated.

It is definitely better with friends but it is still a great game solo. The gameplay is solid, there are plenty of things to do, and the commentary in the game is great and will keep you laughing. The game does a great job of scaling difficulty to the number of players so you will be challenged but not overwhelmed. I think the rumor that it is dull solo applies more for Borderlands 1 rather than 2, at least in my opinion. I'm enjoying 2 so much I have 3 profiles, 1 co-op and 2 solo, and will be starting a 4th with the Mechromancer soon. Definitely pick it up.👍

Thanks for the feedback. I think I will buy Borderlands 2. It's been on my radar for a while now but I was initially put off as I haven't played the first.

There are places where coop is better than solo mostly timed missions. Overall it can be played on either. I've soloed all of it and while coop helps progress further faster solo gives you time to soak everything in.

I only tried solo on the first game for fifteen minutes and couldn'r go on any longer. Then I tried it again dragging my girlfriend into it and we both had a blast. Now we're getting through 2 together again and I tried playing a solo game with a different class and found it to seem a lot more interesting... but that may not mean much since I was well seasoned with the game so... I'd say give it a shot for sure, there's a chance you may feel a bit underwhelmed at first, but stick with it till you really get to grips with the way you're supposed to play, then you should have loads of fun. Oh and knowing how much of a Fallout fan you are I also should mention that the exploring isn't as enthralling, but still much better than 1.
I think if you really get into it and pass the game solo you'll be clamoring for co-op. Cheers.

2 is definitely more friendly to solo players as the story is actually good - the first game had a rather rubbish story (you're told the Vault contains great alien technology, you go open it, giant space alien comes out and tries to eat you; I still enjoyed BL1 a lot even though I mostly played solo, however) so was somewhat heavily reliant on the co-op aspect. As BL2's story is much better, it's more than worthwhile as a single-player game alone.

Well some mixed opinions. I prefer to play solo, but depending on my connection, I may be able to get some co op gameplay in. I've been trying to decide between this and Dishonored. I think I may just go with both. Thanks everyone. I might pick it up in the next couple of days or I might order a copy from an English speaking country.

After playing for a solid six hours, I still have yet to find a better sniper rifle. Also, not knowing what happens next has stuck me in a level 18 area with a level 11 rifle. I am so screwed it hurts.

I played the majority of the 3 days I have on my main character solo and loved it, but I occasionally went online for certain quests I either couldn't do at that point or ones I wanted to breeze through. Once you finish normal mode then True Vault Hunter you'll probably want to play online because everything you fight is either at your level or above it.

But yeah, co-op is by no means mandatory.

Edit: I also really enjoyed the first game solo, so maybe Sharky and I have excellent/substandard brains or something.

Level isn't everything, I'm currently using level 37(?) gear at level 41 in TVH mode. A 3-6 level spread between current story quest level and the level of your gear is normal, you are by no means stuffed if you have a level 11 weapon in a level 18 area - especially not in PT1.

I take it you're playing as Zer0? Don't forget to make use of his action skill, and he's also skilled in pistols...

@neema: substandard. :lol:

...

Knew I was forgetting something. I'll see about giving it a try tomorrow. Along with grenades. I never use grenades. Or explosives...

I never used launchers either, not at all in Borderlands and rarely in Borderlands 2 until I discovered this!

One of the reasons I focused on melee with Zer0 is because if you get it good enough you'll always have a decent weapon with infinite ammo. I recommend getting and keeping the Law, then when you get the Order shield it's just incredible. +100% melee damage, a maylay damage boost when the shield runs out and you gain health from health damage (i.e. not shield damage) inflicted with the Law... Use that with a maxed out Bloodshed skill tree with a melee boosting class mod (mine adds 40% melee damage, +5 to Backstab (for +80% melee damage from behind) and +4 to Resurgence (up to 36% health restored by melee attacks)) and you can keep yourself alive for a surprisingly long time.

I have tried solo, 2,3,and 4 player co-op. The game truly shines with co-op partners because there are mods for each character that help your team mates. Some for healing, some for increasing shields, others for most anything you can think of. Plus there are more enemies, the enemies are more challenging, and the most important part, much more and much better loot. So if you do get this game make sure you get co-op partners to go along with it. 👍

I am hoping to play a bit today but depends on how fast things go before that. What relic do you prefer over others? Right now I have the XP increase at lease until I hit 50 then I might switch into +5% rare item to see if there is any difference.

I still have the 5% rare items relic. I thought by now I would find a 10% or higher. I did find one for exp but so far gaining exp is not a problem at all. Found a rare slag sniper gun for my level 40 that does 5,000 damage per shot!

that 5% is only for the Premier club there is really no other ones at all.

Ive got a 37 sniper that does 6947 damage, which would do around 11K if you have the right skills set

Oh ok about the premier club.
Wow very nice about your sniper gun! I usually get 14,000 critical hit damage with it on my soldier. It would be much higher damage on the Assassin. I have found higher damage sniper guns but thats the highest slag sniper gun I have found. 5,000 damage seemed pretty dang good for a slag sniper.

I found this on something and well it should be interesting
Just what we need More Currency...

Co-op shooter Borderlands 2's has some more DLC coming. "Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty" DLC was revealed through the PS3's trophy list. PlayStation 3 users who downloaded an update were met with some new trophies related to the upcoming DLC, and, judging from the list, it looks like it will be an impressively large piece of new content.

FEATURE: Borderlands 2 Mechromancer Guide

The new Borderlands 2 content seems to have pirate theme, and take place in a new location, Oasis. The "gadabout" achievement givs a trophy for discovering "all named locations in Oasis and the surrounding Pirate's Booty areas."

If that's not enough evidence for you, PC gamers took a close look at the Borderlands 2 source files and discovered more intriquing information. Here's a summary:

Each class gets a new head.
New rarity level? (Level 6, "Seraph")
New items/weapons. (such as the Blood Relic, Anshin Evolution Shield, Scarlet's Greed, 12 Pounder, Little Evie, Stinkpot, and more!)
Lots of bosses and multiple raids (3)! (such as Scarlett, the Leviathan, Hyperius the Invincible, and Master Gee the Invincible)
Covering someone in condiments!

Also from the source files, this intro text to the DLC:

"Legends speak of Captain Blade's Lost Treasure of the Sands. Of a prize so great, that men would turn the sands red in pursuit of it. Of a pirate queen, courageous and deadly, who would stop at nothing to find it. Of a monstrous Leviathan. Of the Vault Hunters who journeyed to the desert town of Oasis, not knowing the horrors that would befall them."

We'll have more information (if there is any!) once Gearbox officially announces this DLC.

To add there will be 9 chapters in this DLC, here is the mission log/side quests Echo Log
