Braking in GT5 is overrated.

The instrument rev bar that blinks when to downshift also tells you when to brake , not that its the exact optimum braking point but its super close to that and you almost have nothing to think of for braking at all , which clearly ruins the experience of real racing because braking is a huge role in motorsports racing and a brake guide clearly doesn't exist and won't exist.

I know most begginers or even experienced drivers use this bar for obvious reasons. The first reason is the braking obviously , the second reason is that they are using Hood view (which also doesn't exist in reality) which obviously guides you how to shift you need it because you dont have a speedometer but its not just that , real racing doesnt have hood views or brake guides to make everything easier to live with.

Are there any plans of having an online restriction for the instruments??

If you dont know what an instrument is , go to practice or race and press start then click the option to hide instrument.

Huh!?....i never knew such a thing existed. I never really pay attention to that bar, but to see how fast i am going.

It's to the left of the gear you are currently in (assuming you are using the bumper cam). It's basically a red-coloured number that "blinks" when you should brake. That number represents the gear you should be in when you go through that corner.

It was nice that one could have a 'minimize' option to keep the gauges but lose the braking/gear indicator thing.
For interior view I turn off all the HUD but for standards I feel it's rather strange to drive without anything on the screen. I wish there was an option to turn off everything but the gauges, to just the speedo and rev counter.

Huh...i didn't know it told you to brake?, first time i'm hearing it, i always thought it was telling you, "Get into to gear now! QUICKLY!!". Thanks for the info, and no thanks, for kind of ruining it for me, as i now know what it means. And agree with enzo309.

^^^ this

When it starts to flash it's an indicator of when to brake. For anyone who has the slightest experience with GT will know that it's usually wrong. It'll tell you to brake too early and to use a lower gear than what is necessary.

I agree. It makes the whole experience seem more computer-controlled and simulated. Seriously, is it that hard to figure out what gear to use?? Easy enough for PD to program a setting to turn it off.

I agree that there should be an option to turn it off. In GT4 there was a 'simple' option in Display which removed the gear indicator.

But if you follow that indicator you won't be fast. The basic racing guides still apply, use scenery features as a reference point for your brake and turn in, ignore the gear indicator and you will be faster.

It's always too early, and the gear is often too low... but it's a good learning guide if you don't know the track and/or the car.

Sometimes, when doing a car to car comparison, I have to turn off all the instruments, because those aids give you different braking points and gears for each car... which kind of biases the testing.

I think that they make it too early because some people have slower reaction times.

I use the light because its hard to see whats ahead. Draw distance is horrible for a 32" tv... I always push it though.

Not to sound pretentious but i never pay attention to that blinking light or number. As a matter of fact, they dont make the slightest sense to me. ??? :nervous:

I have seen them before in previous GT games, but even to this day, i dont know what they really means.

It doesn't matter to me anyways, because i drive/play with the Third point of view, with the view of the entire car from behind, and i never really pay attention to those information...

I only look at the road ahead, and the upcoming corners.
I barely watch my speed, so let alone those distracting light and number, and have never put on the virtual best-driving-line. (mainly because i hate when people tell me what to do, so i dont really want a computer to tell me how to drive either)

I just get the feel from driving and throwing the car around the track, i already know if it's going to make it or not...

and it's more fun that way... you learn much more i believe ;)

to be honest, I can't stand a racing game that doesn't have an indicator that tells you when you absolutely need to slow down. It's one of the best things about GT. I think in previous GTs you had the option to disable it... But whatever. when you're racing every move you make affects your subsequent position, velocity, and inertia... A little light that comes on at any given moment is largely irrelevant. Just understand that it isn't consistent or perfect... Its more of an emergency indicator. you're hardcore just for making it go off :P

My TV has an option to turn that indicator light off. It's called a piece of tape.

i like the hud display as i drive bumper cam and prefer to have dials as apposed to nothing on screen but i would like the ability to turn it off as any real car cant tell me im going to quickly into a corner unless the airbags goo off and its too late

I'm stuck riding premiums just now because I can't turn the stupid thing off - have to turn all the instruments off and use the in-car ones. It'd be nice to be able to turn off just the red indicator, but it'd be better if it was treated as what it is (a driving aid) and a restriction added to the my lounge controls.

Through my experiences in GT4, I learned to ignore it completely. Now I always keep my HUD off;)

I think it's meant to flash early because some players have much slower reaction times. It also gives that extra allowance for any mistake.

Serious, who cares?

I doubt that experienced drivers use the bar or driving line, because if you know how to drive and where to brake the driving line and "brake bar" will only slow you down.

Was cool in some previous GT's where we could shut it off. It's way too early, the gear indicator is often wrong showing a gear lower then you can take the turn. I don't pay attention to it, gotta love wide screen TV's.

I am guilty of using the flashing gear as a reference, when learning a track or car I follow it to begin with. I don't rely on it or believe it as gospel and doubt many do, most work out that it's too early 99% of the time. It's slightly condescending of people to talk like "I don't use it, I'm so much better than you" but each to their own I guess.
Even now I have unfortunately become trained to treat it as a focusing tool, or as a pre braking marker which guides me to look for my real marker. I do feel less at ease when I turn off the display and/or use interior view. I can't wait to be able to turn it off and get myself tuned in a little more like real life, I hope PD allow that soon

I just use in car view with HUD off. though in my experience it is not a good guide for going fast.

I've always found awkward that GT has so few options in the pause menu (why can't I change music/button configurations on the fly? Other games allow so). GT5 did a step forward in this respect, but it could go even farther. What about being able to choose one by one which instrument you want in your HUD? Surely, it isn't such a complicated bit of programing but most likely another lack of creativity from PD.

The brake guide, like the driving line, are very useful for begginers. I learned A LOT from them until I felt confident enough to turn off all instruments and drive in cockpit view with all instruments off. I'm faster this way, and have more fun. I really don't have anything against people who use this aids, I did too. They're helpful to some extent but if you become dependant of them you'll only be spoiling yourself.

One the brake bar is really useless unless you are using their drive line.
It doesn't account for if you are taking a early or late apex for overtaking.
Plus whenever I get tired or just fatigued in an endurance event I'll hammer on the brakes and it just really throws me off.
I wish in a upcoming update there is an off option.

Actual cockpits give you the ability to have peripheral view and move your neck to make it easier to live with. Cockpit view does not acurately represent reality.

This was a reply to enzo..

Also, feeling the inertia and "limit" does not exist either.

I have recently turned ABS off and just enjoy driving stock cars around. I like to reference the flashing braking indicator number to help adjust braking points for certain vehicles.....most recently trying to figure out the SSR.

I don't mind it being there.
