I am running BF Goodrich radial TA tires in real life. I have no clue what class of tire I should be running in the game. Advice?

They're probably the most popular tyre for muscle cars and hot rods.

After trying out CM tires in the game on a car with a close to identical setup to my real life Vette I would say NOT a match. Sports hard seems to be closer. I'd say still a bit slippery but based on my own experience but I'd rather go there vs going too sticky.

Pushing the pedal all the way to the floor calibrates them.

Have you lowered the brake balance? GT6 has some pretty funky stuff going on with no ABS in different modes- online seems to make your brakes only have 40% travel before lock up irrespective of what your brake balance is set at, free-run and arcade mode time trial also seem to have the same issue and yet in offline races it works fine. :sick:
 
I tried 0 to 10 brake balance with the ABS off and little to no difference. Super touchy and I'd say around 25% pedal travel was more than enough to lock em up with the DFGT wheel. ABS=1 gives me a good bit more travel but still lets me lock em if I stand on on the pedal. It feels much more realistic and whether or not my car has ABS in real life it certainly mimics the performance much more closely. While it may not be quite 100% in adherence to the rules I believe it follows the sprit of the thread. Which is too bad, my gear box is awful for racing! The fifth gear is a .64 overdrive and was designed for highway cruising and fuel economy. It's a slow climb once I put her in fifth, I'd certainly love to adjust that top gear! Oh I almost forgot. I hate the ring and it's kicking my butt.

Are these the tires?
If so, they are a run-of-the-mill all-season tire, no way they are anywhere near close to tires like Max Performance Summer (which would be SH per OP) in grip.

P.S. I was kinda hoping I'd be on the board by now.

I was simply stating that in the game the CM tires behave nothing at all like the tires actually on my car(neither do the brakes). I have enough real data entered in the game to know that what I end up with NOT the way my car behaves in real life. And don't worry dsgerbc, I am not a good driver and your times will be safe from me! However, for my own fun in the game I will run SH.

I agree it's not the way my car behaves, but I think it's not in the direction you say.
I did enough performance driving with my cars, and I'd say that SH is more like top autox/track street tires (suggested as SM in OP). Regular good performance summer tire is about as CS tire in GT6. And A/S tire would be a CH in my book and that's how I drive for fun in GT6.
 
Based on the rules I ran sh, but it could have been argued cs, but was closer to sh. After I started looking at the lateral g's that the car was pulling, and it's just too much I think. From what I have read, the autocross/track experience, and playing with a g-tech accelerometer, comfort hard to medium seem to pull closer numbers to what I would expect. Although in games/sims you just don't get the sense of speed or g force, and I think they start with the tire squeal too early based on lateral g's. So my opinion is that sometimes the tires with less grip are actually more accurate in grip levels, but it can still seem like the ones with more grip feel better. One last thing I would mention is that the grip may be more accurate with the lower tires, but the handling balance/characteristics actually seem a bit better with a little bit more grip. On a side note I have always thought of ss as an r comp tire like ra1's, and sport hard like summer only tires. Just my two cents.
 
I don't have a lot of autocross experience so I'm not too familiar with my cars lateral grip but I am familiar with the straight line grip. Longitudinal? Longitudal? Anyway, if I'm rolling at say 20 mph and I smash on the gas I do not break traction in real life. In the game CM tires will spin all the way through first gear. The SH tires behaved, in a straight line anyway, the most like my actual car.
 
That's why I set the tires the way I did. At least, that way, there can be some* realism... I realize that it's not perfect, but it's a valid start.

I think you set them in a way that gives it about as good a feel as you could. Since the tires don't seem to perfect all around what I am most curious about is how close the lap times would be to real life. Of course in real life you may not be able to use the curbs like you can in gt, and even if everything actually was perfect/the same, in real life there is fear and hesitation. I do hope to get a chance to do a track day at Laguna seca this spring or summer. If I do I am sure I will try to do a bunch if similarly driven laps on gt6 and compare lap times. Anyways, great thread! Andrew, looks like you got me by 7 or 8 seconds. I may have to try it with my other tires or other car. (Ra1 r comps for the civic aka sport softs on here, or an 02 wrx with street tires)

- Power limiter to 80.0% (torque is about right with specs, but there were about 35 horses too much)
- 60kg of ballast (as the Protege5 wagon is 1,230kg as opposed to 1,170kg for the sedan)
- Ballast position : +20 (simulating the heavier hatch and rear section of the wagon, sedan's original distribution was 59:41, wagon should be around 57:43)
- Traction Control OFF
- ABS at 1

Hey every one, awsome idea. Both my car are not in gt6 :( talking about an 89 toyota corolla sr5 (ae92 :D ) with a 1.6l 4af carburated engine (little less tham 100hp, 92 if memories good) and an 99 4door 2.0l ford escort (winter beater) as i'm pretty sure the rally escort and the ae86 are not comparable, what car could be a good mesure

Edit: after checking the OP i will go with sport hard since my real tire are perfo tire but i would'nt describe those as ultra performance tire, i forgot to say that the audi a6 next to the corolla in the summer picture was mine until i blew the engine and sold it for part :( bad experience..

Edit no2: did the time, 0.33.724 at the arena and 9:41.958 at the ring, didńt used the 6 gear since i dont have one, no aids, pretty slow but react pretty much the same as my real car, detuned the car at 95hp (found on wiki) and put lightweight lvl1 and a 48 kg ballast to get my real weight (1052 kl) for a total of 10:15.682 if im correct
