I feel I need to. Apologise to one specific British manufacturer...

So, we were driving along, looking at what went by, first there was an Audi A6, in business class silver, ok to look at but very bland. Next there was a Chrysler 300C, very-American & cool but VERY crass. And there it was, right behind these two there was a Jaguar XF, in dark blue, and it just looked astonishing beside it's foreign rivals.

Later, driving along again, and out of nowhere pops a striking black Range Rover Evoque.

You can probably see where this Is going.

Sorry JLR for associating you with the rest of the glue-and-plastic creations that are born in this country. You are the one-and-only exception to the ''British cars are crap'' rule.:sly:

Lotus and TVR make light high power cars, almost no one else does. OK the finishing is a bit off sometimes.

Even if there is a lot of engineering from Germany, we still see Bentley and Rolls Royce as British don't we.

Ariel invented a new standard.

Also these brands make my head turn: AC Cars, Ascari Cars, Aston Martin Lagonda, Caterham Cars, Ginetta Cars, Marcos, McLaren Automotive, Morgan, Noble

I believe people like UK cars more then they realise.

And once again, Mazerati completely misses the point that some of those "glue and plastic" manufacturers have built some of the best sports cars ever made, and engineered half of everyone else's best sports cars too. Ford GT40? Developed in Slough. Mazda MX5? Prototypes made in Essex. Shelby Cobra? Derived from an AC.

The XF and Evoque are fantastic cars but to describe them as exceptions to the rule is a load of tosh.

Not to mention the fact that these 'glue and plastic' cars are made from these materials to keep costs down so the man on the street can afford his or her own Ferrari or Porsche beater for a fraction of the price. But then, as you said, the point has been completely missed for the sake of trolling.

I didn't realise our felines were of such bad quality...... :)

 I agree. Don't diss any fluffy kittens, Mazerati, much less British cars. Clearly someone cares a bit too much about quality of the actual car rather than the fun there is to be had from it. And as stated by TheCracker they are cheaper and therefore easier to buy alternatives to the usual group.

Oh right, so all those manufacturers who used to be rubbish because of, primarily, their build quality (using cheap materials), such as Hyundai & Kia, who have got their act together and are now challengers to Ford, volkswagen etc, are you saying that they would have been better off making cars with horrible materials?

And all this crap about British sports cars influencing current legends is just an excuse.
TG Also helped to show how a certain german car, finally managed to convince the world to ditch their British cr*p and drive something decent. And I am so glad that all those British manufacturers who used to build cheap, unbearable rot-boxes are being left to rot, as the foreigners take over.

Different markets completely. You can't compare low-volume specialist cars to stack'em high and sell'em low budget econo boxes. :dunce:

It's not as if Italian cars are famous for their build integrity either - even at the top-end of the market.

I've owned some shockingly bad Fiats in my time . They're Italian aren't they ?
I can only presume you're talking about all the other foreign manufacturers out there , and not the ones in your own country....

And by the way ... Top Gear is a motoring tongue-in-cheek entertainment show , it's not purely factual . Unless you still believe Mr .M Schumacer is the Stig that is .

Is that the same Ford and Volkswagen who consistently come mid-table in reliability surveys? Often behind Fiat now, of all manufacturers? And a long way behind Jaguar?

You seem utterly unable to let actual knowledge get in the way of your misguided opinions and irrelevant assumptions. That you hold TG as a beacon of factual knowledge pretty much confirms it.

I'm not sure how the aluminium of fibreglass of something like, say, a Lotus Elise, could be considered "horrible materials" either. Neither rusts, and both are incredibly light weight. Both meet the car's design brief perfectly.

And if you'd ever driven or been driven in an Elise you'd realise that because the chassis is so stiff, it doesn't even rattle or creak. So those horrible materials actually work pretty well.

Hey Mazerati, how bout them Ferrari's burning themselves to the ground? Haven't seen reports of anything British doing that in numbers....

OK, first, I DO NOT look to TG for anything other than to watch grown men act like children and to get an immature laugh and I would never refer to TG if I wanted to get a professional opinion on anything.

Right, by "foreigners" I meant Audi & Mercedes. Can we please stop this argument, I'm sure there are certain countries who make cars you dislike. And sure, my argument isn't politically correct, but in this case, who really cares?

You started the argument/troll in the first place. What do you expect when you make such a leading statement - for us to just read it and bask in it's glorious insight?

You should have just locked the thread as soon as you made it if you didn't want anyone to reply.

Why even make it then?

Because I said that all British cars were crap, and I was merely pointing out that it was a mistake to include jaguar into that category. THEN, it turned into an argument...surprise, surprise.:grumpy:

I'm sure there are certain countries who make cars you dislike.

No, not really. Certain models or manufacturers yes. Whole countries for no good reason? No.

And sure, my argument isn't politically correct, but in this case, who really cares?

Plenty of us, it seems.

If you'd said "I don't really like British cars" then that's fair enough. Saying "All British cars are crap" is at best misinformed, at worst trolling. So you really shouldn't expect us to just sit there and accept it when you're talking out of your backside.

THEN, it turned into an argument...surprise, surprise...

After saying the following I don't think you should be surprised .....

TG Also helped to show how a certain german car, finally managed to convince the world to ditch their British cr*p and drive something decent. And I am so glad that all those British manufacturers who used to build cheap, unbearable rot-boxes are being left to rot, as the foreigners take over.

Some say that Italian cars are built by lemmings.......

And that breaking wind in one will make them explode........

All we know is ..... that Top Gear is fact !!!!

:dopey:

Ah, yes, perfect time for a classic.

Why do the Brits drink warm beer? They have Lucas refrigerators.
