BTCC could cash in on the way Formula Legends and iRacing Arcade are doing those games. Imagine from the start of BTCC through now in the style of those two games. It’d probably be the best selling touring car game ever.
I've always thought an arcade racer similar to Sega Rally, Dirt, PGR, Driveclub... but with touring cars would be a huge success.

What you said about doing it in the style of Formula Legends or iRacing Arcade could also be a good idea.

To be honest, they'd be better rolling in a real-life touring car element into an established racing/driving sim/game rather than trying to do it from scratch. Driving games have moved on so much since the old ToCA Race Driver days, developing a whole new physics engine would take an awful lot of effort. Better to utilise one that already exists and is generally well regarded.

An official BTCC DLC for GT7? All the current cars, on all the not-yet licenced circuits. It could be like the 'Power Pack' and come at a price (would help with licencing costs). If it was well marketed outside of the usual PD efforts, made a big issue of it during the ITV TV coverage and at the real events, it would no doubt bring in new customers in the way the Power Pack probably didn't. You could bulk it out by including some of the support series as a career ladder - the various Mini Challenges or Porsche Carrera Cup etc.

Licencing issues aside, this would work with any touring car series, or any other race series for that matter.

And limit the potential audience to one platform, not to mention PD's patchy track record when it comes to official licence series being patchy at best.

Remember the horror...

Oh yeah, sure, i was using GranTurismo as a familiar example. PD don't have a good track record for anything like this, everything gets half-arsed. Frustratingly.

But i'm sure there are other platforms, iRacing or the like, that could pull something like this off.

The multi-platform thing is always going to be an issue though, one way or the other. I don't think the BTCC creates enough interest in itself to pull off a dedicated from the ground up game to a quality to rival other racing games on the market. A TV viewing figure of ~250k per round and a further ~40k at the actual event don't make for a big enough potential market on their own to cover development costs, i wouldn't think.

That's sad. I'm lucky enough to see a few old once-BTCC Super Tourers if I decide to go to a historic event here, but the impact the series left on me(and others likee) I guess the current owners of BTCC must not care too much about.

I agree that it's not a big enough licence in itself for a standalone game. If you think of the struggles to make enough money out of WRC and that's a licence with a built-in international market.

Some kind of expansion seems a more viable route.
It could work well as a paid DLC for Forza Motorsport 2023. Oh wait...
It's definitely a natural for Grid (the defacto successor to TOCA anyway). Oh wait...
And there's my point. There are hardly any circuit racers left.

Aside from GT, you pointed out iRacing, being one option.

I'm not convinced either PMR or Rennsport will make it past their first year post release.

It's not going to fit the likes of Le Mans Ultimate or any of the "GT3 sims" as I don't believe there would be enough crossover of fans/potential players?

ACEvo wouldn't be looking to add a complete licence (more likely they'd aim for certain individual cars).

What are they going to do - release a paid Touring Car DLC for Screamer?!

One title regularly releases paid Touring car DLC, entire series of cars, including Super Tourers, they are just yet to do the current BTCC.

Raceroom, which could port over to consoles with ease, but the masses may dislike the last gen graphics (despite the excellent physics and FFB).

Last gen graphics don’t bother me if the game is solid. Raceroom look to have an awesome list of cars of the Super Touring era. Still no Primera and Peugeot, but the cars available are to die for.

AMS2 is also getting a Super Tourer pack soon, and there's a decent selection of UK circuits already there, including period correct Silverstone.

Still kinda niche in the grand scheme of things though, limiting it to Raceroom.

If it's gonna have any chance, it needs to be the mainstream home console games.

I don’t feel it’s niche in terms of home gaming. Not as popular in the USA as the rest of the world. Polyphony Digital did it once. I’d be interested to know if any other touring car series other than TCR have approached PD.

As I’ve had to do in GT7, I’m stuck making my homemade versions.

Raceroom is very solid. It's about as kaizen as anything German can be. They've just steadily improved it over the years. Dynamics are great, runs very well on reasonable hardware (framerate>pretty, IMO), has solid netcode for online if that's your thing, good AI if it's not, and some of the best sound in the business. And you can try it for free.

An official "BTCC 2026 The Game" wouldn't generate enough interest beyond those of us who love touring cars, the general public wouldn't be interested.

Instead of an official BTCC game, the best case scenario would be for someone to release a game that serves as an ode to touring cars, without needing the official license.

Something similar to what AMS2 does with F1.

Bringing together BTCC and STW Super Tourers, original DTM/ITC Class 1 cars, WTCC S2000s, V8 Supercars Falcons and Commodores, Group A, TCR... in a single game.

Raceroom comes closest to that.
The 1992, 1995 and 2002 DTM seasons plus the Supertouring pack are amazing.

However, the fact that it’s a free to play title requiring a constant internet connection and that isn't available on consoles is an issue.

I think Race room does more than just get close.

DTM 1992, 1995, 2002, 2003, 2013-2016, 2020-2025.
Super Touring (8 cars with liveries spanning all major super touring series).
TC Cup
Group A/N
WTCC/TCR 2013-2022

Add in 74 circuits available and it's extremely comprehensive as far as touring cars go, it really isn't missing much aside from more modern BTCC stuff. But like you say, PC only, free to play model, gets expensive if you want all the content, even if you just limit yourself to touring cars.

rFactor 2 is the closest we will get to a modern BTCC game, couple of seasons worth of cars and liveries, handful of scanned tracks. I just wish I could play it but rFactor 2 has a weird controller compatibility issue alongside Logitech G hub, which is stupid.
