Already done that. I was one of the 1st to work it out :)

I don't think it's a serious thing really, the only real use is to check if you're online :dopey:

Since i'm not one for starting new threads i thought i'd just add to this general sounding one...

Since GTP8.5 i've noticed that i can't add people to my 'buddy' list. You can go through the motions, but the 'save' button seems redundant. As a Mac OS9 user perhaps it's a browser issue?

Anyone else have this issue?

Must be a browser issue, as I just added you, and it went through just fine.

What browser are you using? I'm on Safari 2.0.4, and it works fine for me.

Maybe its because after that "incident", you're not allowed friends.

Could be, could be 👍

To be honest i don't quite see what purpose the 'buddy list' has?

Does it actually do or enable anything?

Yeah, you can see who's online at the bottom of the main forum page.

The buddy list was re-done in vBulletin 3.6.0 and now makes extensive use of AJAX, which may not be completely compatible with your browser.

I can think of one purpose in which it helps. I know where most of the threads are and who most people here are, but say I join another forum for my car, (which I have). You'll probably have no idea who the people are or where threads are located. Now say you search for a topic and finally found it, but you would also like to come back to it, chances are you'll forget who originally made the topic and you'll have to search for it again. Now, if you can add someone to your buddy list and simply search for their created posts you can find what you were looking for. Some may argue that you could just use the favorites, but they mistakenly get deleted, become cumbersome among many others, etc. So if you've made it through this long spiel of mine, you can see that it does benefit some people.

I would think it to be more cumbersome to skim through the user's threads then it would be to bookmark it or subscribe to it.

And don't forget, with vBulletin, our forum software, you can sort and organize subscribed threads into many different custom folders. :)

Sorry to revive an old thread but it's better than starting a new one. I have just bought Premium and now the Buddy list link in my welcome box is not there. It currently has New Posts, My GT Planet, Log Out and Private Messages. Is there any way to add my Buddy List to this box as it was before?
Cheers,
nige

Sorry, nige, this was one of the changes that I made with the recent update to GTP9.1 (see my thread in the GTPlanet News forum). If you want fast access to your buddy list, you may find the GTP Lite style more useful. :)
