There is a lot of Buick Grand National and many GNX clone but for a real GNX, there is only 547 made. Do you search. The real GNX were numbered ( x of 547), came with a book, a hat and a coat. For your information, these are rare cars, last year a 500miles GNX ( all stock) was sold on eBay for 82,000$ US.

I think your wrong Wasabi.I lost to an 87 smoke grey GNX in my street class in 1988 at Cayuga Speedway.I had an 1988 Mustang LX 5.0.Trust me I think I know what beat me.Buy the way I have 2 in my GT5 garage and 1 is black.Sick car hauls ass.
 
I only know of 2 for sale currently. One on ebay, which is a clone. And one that my dad was jumpy about becuase he drove it. 80k is quite alot for an american car. But there are more rare cars. Such as the Trans Am.
 
Long time lurked first time poster. I know a little about the 87 GNX and what makes it different. There were as others have stated lots of grand nationals and the turbo charged x version. There were only 500 or do of the 87 and what makes this car different was the motor and suspension were built special by McClaren racing. At the time it was faster the a Porsche 911 turbo I believe it's 0-60 was high 4s low 5s. You can google LA car dealership w original 87 GNX this owner has an original w zero miles sitting on his showroom floor in the same spot now as it was in 87. He claims he's had 6 figure offers to buy it plastic still on the seats. Yes lots of GN and GNX but only a handful on McClaren built GNXs
 
ALL GNX's and GN's were black-thats all the came in..The Regal T-Type which has the same drivetrain as a GN could be had in any GM color available on a Regal.I sold my T-Type a few years ago and god do I miss it-great car.................

TRUST me...

When I was a kid, one of my best friends got a Black Buick Regal for his birthday. I know, this is one of those almost impossible to believe stories, but being the car guy I am, when I first saw it I almost crapped myself. It was a REAL GNX. He wasn't much of a car guy, and just didn't understand, at 18 years old, what this was.

I had read quite a few articles on the car in Road & Track and Car and Driver. Part of the folk lore of this car is that they were supposedly build as pursuit vehicles for the FBI. Still not sure if that was true.

What makes it stand out is the turbo is different, it has a ceramic impeller and can spin way faster, the suspension, and the wheels. There are a couple of other subtle things that I can't remember.

I had a '71 Mustang Mach 1 with a 351, a 4 speed, and let me tell you, it was FAST. But my friend's GNX would DESTROY mine. It was humiliating.

His dad got the car from a friend who ordered the car for a guy, but apparently the original guy went to jail. LOL.

Of course, my friend being a bit of a spoiled rich kid, didn't really take car of the car, got bored of it after a year, and sold it. And no, he didn't get like $500,000 for it, I think it was like $18,000!!!

Every time I see him, I kick him in the ass. I told him, as a kid, to lock it up in a shed somewhere and forget about it for 20 years, you'll be a millionaire! He didn't believe me. Turns out he's a millionaire anyways!! LOL
 
ASC/MacLaren built those cars for Buick. They took regular Grand National, stripped them, and add custom parts like the turbocharger, suspension. Only the GNX option was worth 13,000$ more the price of the Grand National. At this time, in 1987 it was still a lot of money for only an "option". Performance was good for the time but not that fast. A stock GNX was able to do mid 13's which in 2011 is not really fast, but for a such a big car, V6 turbo in 1987 it was good.

There's a lot of GNX clone, normal GN or Regal all painted black, Trans-Am GTA black wheels, front grill in black. But only 547 real ones.
 
I Never heard of that car , But when it came u i instantlu baught it and fully tune . Still having fun with it :) its lika a unique driving style In the game.
 
This is why I'm hesitant to post anything. I was trying to share a decent article about the subject the OP put up. Sorry I offended your extraordinary sense of mid-80s cars. Congrats on pointing out that even your 'ANTI-American car' friends know about the car. You've got some great friends.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings.. I was just pointing out that most Americans who are "Car Guys" know about the GNX.
 
The Grand National is a bad car dudes. My best friend in high school had one during our Senior year. We would go cruising and would pick on any other car on the road. It was a blast. Back then, it would do 0-60 in 4.6 secs, which was impressive for such a big car. That turbo just pushed you back in your seat like nobody's business. It had a 3.8 litre sequential fuel injected V6 making 245 hp, 345 ft-lb torque.

Then the GNX came out and it posted 276 hp and 360 ft-lb torque. They did make 547 of these special units. Another friends Dad bought two of these in 1987. He had #0013 and #0151. They were menacing, beautiful cars. All black, and ready to roll.

Good times back then.....

The easy thing was the launch. You just held the brake and let the boost build. Then just hammer the throttle and hang on. It would hook up very well, leaving the line with only a small chirp of the tires. That car could move.
