Unlike most imports where the holy grail is 10's and then they are praying their engines dont' grenade, it's not hard to find a guy with a Gn running in the 10's on pump gas and have no trouble driving it on the road like.

lol I dont know what imports your refering too. I take it you dont like imports much.

Officially, the GNX had a maximum of 276 HP, and a top speed of 125MPH. This was a lie to keep insurance costs down and to avoid any Government entanglements.

The car had on average of 285 to 290 HP with some reaching higher than that, and a top speed of at least 145MPH.

It's a stab at F&F, and all the guys in school had a friend/brother with a 10 second civic, sentra, integra, crx, or dsm.

Dont let these fools put a black cloud over good actually fast imports.

I hate F&F but I dont blame imports for that.

This is funny. People think a modded-up sport compact is ugly, but as some look at the Buick GNX, and some others say THAT is ugly. Whazzupwitdat? (What's up with that?)

Remember, I don't make a habit of knocking tuner cars since I'm more of an auto enthusiast, but I can say this. While this GNX may not win any beauty contests, I'm pretty sure this machine probably came out well before the most recent tuner craze. And if you're into the tuner scene, think about it. This machine has a turbo engine, bears black paint, and is an exception to the statement "all Buicks are dull." I probably wouldn't call it "America's answer to non-American sport compacts." I've thought of it more like a machine you can use to potentially upset a Ford Mustang. Maybe commit an upset about as big as North Carolina beating Miami earlier this year.

If you want more information on the Buick GNX, visit the website below:
http://www.buickgnx.com/

And with this, it's time for a "DID YOU KNOW?" So, DID YOU KNOW... that the Buick GNX from 1987 was from a collaboration between Buick and ASC/McLaren? (-buickgnx.com) I know McLaren's been around since maybe the 1960s, but man. The Buick GNX may end up being a favorite among GT gamers. A favorite that will make the opposition break in the other lane while theGNX lay down a mad sick ET on that jive turkey. You dig me, player?

I guess it's the old story of beauty being in the eye of the beholder etc etc...

I don't even know what a tuner car is (I have to admit to being a bit older than most here :dopey: and therefore probably a bit less in tune as to what these terms signify).

My previous comment still stands, but I should have added the obligatory "IMHO" I guess. I am not commenting on it's fit for purpose or how well it achieves that, only what it looks like in my eyes. If the truth be known, this forum was the first time I had seen or heard of the model.

"That GNX is a bad mutha-"
"Hush yo' mouth!"
"I'm just talkin' 'bout the GNX."
"I can dig it."

Yeah, baby, I can't wait to get my hands on this "ugly" car. I'm gonna have some fun with it.

Here's another picture of this "ugly" Buick:

ahh I seee!! thats pretty cool :dopey: ...but the uglyness everyone is talking about, I dont think its perticulary ugly :) one should be reminded that its was designed in the 80th´s... :dunce:

The Grand nationals, GNX and the brother the T-Type were in a league of their own in the 80s. All other cars were crap during that time. The 80's Camaro's really sucked, Mustangs, Oldsmobiles, Dodge. Everything was soo slow and not attractive. These cars were way ahead of their time. And they are not ugly IMO for an 80's car. Put this 80's Grand National next to an 80's Camaro and you will see how nice that Grand National looks. Ugly Camaro blah!! 👎

OK HERE IT GOES.....

I have a GN, Grand National, and have been in a GN club professionally for over 10 years. My dad was the original owner of the car and bought it for 19,000 in 1986. I got it stock with 100,000 for $8,000. Hey it was 8g's for a virgin GN or a used honda haha ez choice for me!

So I bought ps2 and the offical gt4 wheel, and got a chip to play the burned games, JUST FOR THIS CAR! I have Prologue now and am pretty impressed by the realism and graphics.

My GN is ****ing freakish fast, on street tires i run low 11's on pump gas. 10's with slicks and slicks. With to many mods to list lets just say ive been there and done that with Grand Nationals for a long time. I love my car. I love that one post were someone replyed about smoking all the cars off the street, and yes it is true. It has been a few years sense anything ive seen on the street beat me. So the point is it's fast, and if u dont know about it, u will never know.

BTW when the internet came out, it made it WAY harder for me to earn racing $$$ cus people starting looking into my car lol! Now i think way more people know about it, kinda blows cus that was 75% of my fun with the car. Smoking the crap out of someone and then having them ask, "uhh wtf its a buick! what kinda car is that again" lol classic.

Ive read a few of the posts on here but, im busy staring at the GT4 GNX pics O M F G !!! THIS CAR IS GOING TO KICK ASS!

FINALLY....THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INSIDE PICS OF THIS GN I HAVE ALREADY LINKED MY WHOLE GN CLUB TO THIS BOARD FOR THE PICS THANK YOU AGAIN!

heres a link to my pics. http://community.webshots.com/user/xxdarksidexx
also... www.trubobuicks.com and www.t6p.com are my buick GN boards

a mod is going to waggle his finger at you for posting those urls.

but thanks anyway!

lol i dont care he can ban me if he wants too.

MY point got through, about the speed of the GN and the THANKS for posting the pics. If linking poeple to different sites is bad i would have NEVER FOUND THIS ONE and never got those rare GN pics. SO :P to anyone who thinks i did wrong.

I guess all I can say is that "looks can be deceiving" when it comes to the GNX. ASC/McLaren (at the time) helped in its design, an a beast was born in 1987. Most of us were probably babies or children then (I was 4 years old with an afro), but 6 years later, the McLaren F1 would be born and stun minds even 11 years later. I don't know what role ASC/McLaren served as they bonded with Buick to make this car. But regardless, I think of it more as a tuner car that you can buy off the lot. The tuner craze now has turbos and bold appearances while this machine was an American beast capable of almost anything. I don't think it's ugly at all. In fact, it was made to turn heads for American car fans for the road and track. I wonder how often this car may be used in races. An American Car racing championship would be a nice place to perhaps see it in action during a race.

As a side note, those cars on the GT4 Official Site are all in alphabetical order. So if there's a car that you don't know about in a picture, you'll have to think in alphabetical order for whatever car is in there. I'm not trying to spark a flame, but with the Buick GNX in the game, could you imagine if you look at the car list and find something that looks like a Bugatti EB110? Of course, Bugatti isn't in the game, but I just wanted to toy around.

GTPlanet, this past Friday night on the Speed Channel, "American Muscle Car" highlighted on the Buick GNX. Which is also the reason why I'm updating this thread. I've always said that the GNX is kind of like a tuner car of then. Nowadays, I've said that turbos and trick engine upgrades are good starts for the tuner crowd. This car, however, is pure American muscle car. It has a turbocharged V6, colored up in black, NASCAR-style rear spoiler, and an overall mean look. I've looked through a lot of tuner car magazines for sport compacts and such, and some of the stuff in the last sentence are pretty much eminent even today.

So to those of you who like pop-culture tuner cars, let me speak with you all for a moment. The paragraph above are my reasons why I said you might like this machine. It may not have vinyl graphics, neon underlighting, a GT-style touring wing, or any of the stuff now, but I think you'll like this machine in GT4. And I'm saying this from an enthusiast's standpoint. Don't think I'm telling you this in an effort of saying "screw your Civics and Eclipses- drive American," I'm just saying this because I think you'll enjoy this machine as it has most of the stuff you already like. It's a rear-wheel drive car with about 276hp, so the possiblities are endless for you to race in. Think about a tuner machine, but from America. In the modern era, the American tuner machine is the Dodge Neon SRT-4. But then, the Buick GNX might interest you. Take it drifting. Take it to the road course. I say "go for it" if you like this sort of thing.

For the American car lovers, I'm sure you all will dig wanting to take this machine for a spin.

Whats this about ugly? That is one nice looking car, purposeful and muscular and bloody quick too. I would take one of these over a Subaru Impreza WRX anyday. But not over an Evo. Sorry, the GNX is a great car but I'd rather have an Evo 8.

McLaren F1GTR
If I'm not mistaken, wasn't there a Monte Carlo that looked like the GNX, but not as fast?
yeah, chevy had the monte carlo ss, about 175 hourse 305 cid pig. pontiac came out with the grand prix 2+2, its a fast back version of that body style, think it had even less hp. olds had the hurst olds and 442 versions.

Wow!

The news I've been waiting for.

For all you tuners out there of the import world, allow us old school American Muscle folks a little room here. You see, long before there was Import tuning there was old school V8's and then there was the Buick.

As an owner of an 86 T-Type, and two 87 Gn's, this news of this beloved car making it into GT4 is great. This car back in it's day was an absolute sleeper. I don't know how many Monte's, Corvette's, Mustangs, and Camaro's I absolutely demolished with my cars, but every single time the "fun" was over, each owner of those previous cars hit me with the same question:

"What the hell is under that hood?"

I would simply smile and say a little ol' six...

There is always a ton of talk about HP in cars but the Buick was all about Torque! It has ton's and it's right now! Way low in the powerband and there is enough there to take an invisible hand and pull your neck back 6 inches into the head rest. To this day, it is the only car that has ever truly scared me while driving it. There simply is so much power under the hood on tap (and even more hidden) that this car is simply a race motor surrounded by an old body. Someone else posted the cap on the car was set at 125mph, this was done because any higher and the F-Bodies of old would become nothing more than a frisbee.

If any of you import tuners get a chance, ride in one. I guarantee that you will state two things:

"Holy crap is this thing is fast"

and

"Where can I change my pants"
