Bumper view is it superior?

Bumper cam for me. I find the car much more responsive in this view. I would much prefer to use cockpit cam but find the view too restrictive. Wish I had a pair of VR glasses so I could look around.

Am I imagining things but was there supposed to be head tracking in the game. Is t his available?

I was just thinking that it would have been great to be able to move the position of the rear view mirror and the car seat in the cockpit view, I hope PD can implement this idea!

It depends on style. But for me, I usually stick to a stable view so I use bumpercam, but when reaching extreme speeds, I stick with the hoodcam and the chasecam. I'm more on the hoodcam though.

Do you need to move the seat back because you have long arms and legs :)

Long ago, on a game not so dissimilar to this(Gran Turismo 1)I started with 3rd person view as most people do, enjoying the view of the car being able to see where I am on the track relative to walls and other cars, but as I progressed and started taking interest in getting faster etc. I found that the bumper cam was the best option for me to get my racing lines right, now I also feel in GT5 it does give an adequate idea of what the car is doing and where on the track it is due to the visual effects.

My only issue is that as stated it is very low to the ground and I think it either varies for different cars or ride height actually changes the point of view. Not 100% about that.

I also use it, cause roof cam feels weird, interior is only on 1/5 of the cars and third person is the same as the one of mario katt

To me, bumper view is my go to for the majority of vehicles. I find that some of the vehicles are simply too low to the ground to make it worthwhile. The Ferrari F2007 and the x2010 are extremely low cars and their extreme maneuverability makes it a bit difficult to control. The real concern is with how far one can view the track. The 3rd person view offers the best view, but I find that control from that view is diminished significantly. With the better handling cars (F2007 and x2010), I use the 3rd person view as it brings the game into an almost slow-motion feel. It makes using these vehicles much easier.

The interior view would be awesome if I had 5 monitors that formed a semi-circle. As it stands now, I feel that it doesn't offer enough of a view.

Personally I use roof cam, since it has better sound than the bumper cam, gives a longer range view along with a bit of side view, and is closer to the center of mass which allows for better driving feel.

I was really looking forward to cockpit view but unfortunately I cant see well when using it. I can drive much quicker using bumper cam.

Exactly, as long as the pretty picture of the cockpit obscures the apex of the turn it's not realistic and pretty much a useless gimmick to me.

I wonder how the breakdown is for people that drive vs. too young to drive and the cockpit view users...

Yeah... That would be interesting. I've been driving for 18 years and I find the cockpit view doesn't even come close to the experience a driving a real car...

All we know for sure is that the Citroen GT cockpit was designed by someone who has never been inside a car in his whole life.

Haha! Yeah that Citroen has a... uh... limited view. :dopey:

fwiw, I've been a licensed driver for 28 years and really, I only enjoy cockpit view in this game. Sure some have limited view but I like it. I also turn off HUD and map as I posted somewhere in this thread I think. I actually, go way out of my way to only drive premium cars if possible.

I'm too young to drive yet. But cockpit view is awesome in most cars. Completely agree with the GT by Citroen and lack of visibility.

but isn't the lack of visibility part of the difficulties race car drivers face in real life?

Why would you think that? If I'm driving a car, I have almost 180 degrees field of vision around me, with almost no obstructions. Cockpit view in GT5 leaves you with a little porthole view showing you only a fraction of the road and no peripheral vision.

i llove bumper :) give a greater sense of speed liek someone said earlier. plus after a little bit you learn how much wider your car is than the screen so you can place it just right :P

main reason i like it is that i dont get any car or pillars blocking my view of curbs so i can try and position it just right (something i always struggle with on any racing game :P )

but i can drive in car or in 3rd person, just not a fan of hood cam, if i can see something, i want it to move. and i just find it too wierd having a static bit at the bottom of the screen when everything else is moving. but as the second poster on this thread said, its personal preference

I get that it isn't completely real but I can look left, right and back at the quick push of a button on my wheel, so I disagree about not having peripheral vision.

I tend to use the hood cam more because it has better visibility but you still have a more realistic feel than the chase angle. It just feels like the bumper cam is too low for me to see what's going on ahead of me.

For laptimes i use bumper cam, the only exception is FGT and X2010, because with "bonnet" view i can see exactly where the tyres are on the road.
For serious and hard races i use bonnet view because it gives me the best view over the track, and what people are doing ahead of me.
For fun racing and messing around i use cockpit view, if i can. If not i use bonnet view.

Agreed!! I'm exactly the same

I prefer Bumper Cam for online and genral A spec with the DFGT, when I want to just blast around having fun I will use the cockpit view, on rare occasion I may use out of car view (drifting with DS3).... imo bumper is the best for getting most out of your lap times.

IN GT5 Prologue, did they not have an option where you could zoom in a little in cockpit mode, but I will agree with many others here that with GT5 bumper view is the best, the HUD is great, and I can "feel" what my car is doing in this view. I used to play with only the chase view but it seems different from GT4 to me and I can't use it no matter how much I try, I turn to late or too early all the time with it.

I learned how to use bumper view in GT3 - found the car to be MUCH more responsive and it made my lap times much faster.

I really can't stand the 3rd person view because it seems like you are turning the track around the car, not the other way around.

downside to bumper view though is a blind uphill corner can be brutal. however once you learn the tracks, you'll be able to fly around them in bumper view
