ive noticed that in the bmw series 1 virtual drive vid; the sound when the wheels screech or when you do a burnout, it sounds much more better and realistic compared to previous gt games, wot do you all think?

Thats because it's the latest version? KY and his staff re-recorded ALL the new car's sounds to improve on the realism of the game. Hopefully their will be more variety on the noise of the cars this time around...

What do you mean by more variety?

I heard the Skyline race car on the Nurb video, and it sounded fantastic. Though, some can't tell the difference, or said it still sounds fake, I heard a big difference and that makes me happy. The sounds of the vehicles in GT4 have improved to a more realistic level despite not sounding completely real.

The sounds in GT4 are not completely real, but the new addition, and the higher quality, of car noises made the game a lot more enjoyable to listen to. It sounds like PD has worked hard to make GT4 sound better, as well as look better.

yeah but the still dont have the proper STI growl yet

Whoot!

Really though, good gameplay is what I want. I would love to have unique engine sounds and screeching peel out sounds but if it doesn't, I won't mind.

Proper sound is a BIG attribute to me. I hope it was done correctly this time. I really don't see why it's so difficult, when other games seem to be able to obtain tolerable results.

True. The F1 GTR's sound is good, but not as close as the real thing.
But maybe that's because I was at race when they were going around the track.
I mean, front row seats in real life do sound better than a game right?

But they recorded actual engine sounds right there in real life. Why can't this be duplicated?

To me, sound is almost as important as graphics. I didn't invest in a nice surround setup and an optical cable for my PS2 for sub par results (GT3 had miserable sounding car engines, it's no secret).

From what I've heard though, GT4's aural qualities have impressed me greatly. Seems they learned their lesson. My main gripe was with the terrible and overused tire howling sounds from the previous games. They were repetitive and just didn't sound... right. But after watching all the vids here on GTplanet, I've heard lots more variety and depth to the sound effects. I'm not worried.
