Buying car: Amuse S2000 vs Elise 111R

I DO believe that you guys love your individual cars VERY MUCH, that means a lot. No Offense to you guys, but EVERYONE knows that the new M3 will smoke both of those junkers :)

I would agree with that, but I haven't found a video on youtube of it happening, so there's no way it could be true.

I'd take an s2000 over an elise honestly, I enjoy little things like...carpet...and air conditioning, and the ability to carry more than a purse in the 'trunk'. I just think it's completely ridiculous to base your opinion of a cars ability by a couple of videos posted by some guy on youtube.

edit: also, I dont know why i didn't point this out earlier, but how about this: Let's say the s2000 has better top end than the elise, which is why in those videos the s2000 manages to run down the elise on the straights for the pass. But since you already seemed to have semi acknowledge that the elise does have better solo lap times, that means the s2000 is then holding the elise up in the rest of the track.

So while the s2000 may be faster on those sections, overall the elise can run the faster lap, which means the elise is faster on the other sections...

..and let me get this straight, you base your assumption strictly on videos. So if you just happened to have picked videos where the elises outran s2k's then you'd think the elise was the best car?

The elise is rated at Super-Stock and the S2000 is rated at A-stock...and that means the SCCA recognizes that the elise is in fact a faster car, which is why it's grouped with the GT3 and the s2000 is grouped with the solstice.

edit: I just think it's so g*d d*mn crazy.
-Car and Driver tested the cars and showed the elise was faster
-The stig drove both cars around the same track, and the elise was faster
-The scca recognizes that the elise is faster
-Sport Auto had a professional driver drive both cars around the same track, and the elise was faster
-The performance figures for both cars will tell you the elise is faster

and you're there on youtube thinking, "the whole world is lying to me, I've seen that video where the s2000 beats the elise, yea, that proves they're all lying!"

You say you don't believe stuff on paper, but where the hell do you think this paper stuff came from? Some guy didn't walk around the elise and go, "yea that looks like it'll run a 1'38." or "Psh...this could totally run a 13.4sec 1/4 mile."

Look we can post videos 24/7 and quote statistics on paper untill hell freezes over. Stig is a more than a capable driver, we all know that. the point i'm putting to you is, that the Elise, whether it be the 111R or the Exige, they are both able to be beaten by a bog standard S2000, thats a fact. Stig has good grounds to judge different cars and their performance abilities, having said that, there are even more capable drivers out there that have tested the same cars and totally disagreed with him.

Paper statistics don't mean anything to me. Like Stig once said, it's the cars on the tarmac that count.
Since the original discussion was about the Lotus Elise and the Honda S2000 GT1 turbo in the GT5p game, then got re-directed into real life car performance. Seeing as you think the bog standard S2000 is no comparison to an Elise, then why not take a look at this. It's an unmodified S2000 a fair distance apart from the very powerfull Elise Exige. Not only does the S2000 catch it with relative ease, it passes it and leaves it behind.

How do you know they were bog standard? The Stig didn't say which one he preferred, he drove both on the same course and did better in the Elise, that's all. I don't remember hearing the stig say which one he preffered. :)

If the S2000 was anything other than stock, then it would of stated it. The footage said it was stock. The same as all the other cars were stock. If the footage states S2000, then thats what it is, nothing more, nothing less. Same as a Lotus Exige is stated as what it is, nothing more, nothing less.

Not true. Not true at all. I hate to say this to you but it not being in the title means absolutely nothing, it just means that whoever posted the video was too lazy to put that it was a turbo, or supercharged up there.

Anyways we will agree to disagree. :) Agreed?

I don't want to delve too much further into the discussion but to GT_Fanatic, videos aren't the be-all and end-all way of proving if one car is quicker than another, and especially not the videos of randoms on youtube. I can provide video evidence of a basically standard Honda Insight (a 1.0l hybrid with around 80bhp) catching up with a Corvette Z06 and keeping up with a 1.6 Miata (if you'd like to see it). Something tells me the Insight probably isn't the quicker car out of these though, in exactly the same way that just because the S2000s in those videos seemed quicker (on what was, let's be honest, a track day, where people aren't likely to be at 10/10ths), doesn't mean they actually are.

I'd be more inclined to believe the statistics provided in the last few pages than I would be to believe the videos.

I would like to say though that as with the other people in this debate, I'm not an S2000 hater in the slightest. I enjoy the Amuse in GT5P, I like the way it looks, I love the way it sounds, and I'm a big Honda fan in general. I do admit to preferring the Elise, but equally I spent a lot of time at the British motorshow in the last couple of days pouring over a gorgeous blue S2000 with a hard top! :drool:
 
The only video I'm interested in now is the one showing both of you racing in your favorite car against each other! ;) How do we make that happen? If I were in the race I would pull off the track and sit in the grass with the best view of the finish line I possibly could get!
