Buying cars for a color and not getting the paint chips...

It happened to me for the second time today, and this is really frustrating. We have the paint chip system, and we're forced to actually buy a car just for the paint chip we want. This would sort of be okay if every car actually gave you the chip. Of course, you won't discover this until after you've paid for the car. What are you supposed to do, then?

I had bought a Jaguar XKR and wanted to replicate the new XKR-S that was revealed at the Geneva Auto Show.

I knew right away that Grabber Blue from the Ford Mustang Mach 1 would be just about right for the job.

I bought one in Grabber Blue, and didn't get the paint chip. I already have a tuned Mach 1 as well, so this duplicate car is worthless to me.

I spent a solid 15 minutes looking through the premium dealership, and there are no other similar colors. I have effectively wasted my money on not one, but two cars today, counting the Jaguar. That's nearly 150k I've spent for nothing.

I'm still annoyed at spending 200k on a flat black FT-86 a couple weeks ago and not getting the chip for that, either. Are there any more cars in the game that do this?

This situation is just another reason why I used three votes for a paint shop/editor in the feedback forum.

I think i have some paint that colour let me have a look for you

(the colour of the car, not grabber blue)

It happened to me when I bought a McLaren F1 in Carbon Black. I accidently hit O instead of X and accepting (Ok) on the little menu that tells you that you've acquired that color. It never appeared on my palette. It's annoying.

I'll trade you something else for it. A car would have to wait until tomorrow, as I've already used up my one daily trade sending a car to one of my other accounts. Gotta love that new rule.

I hope you weren't buying the F1 just for the color.

I'll have the spare Mach 1!

I'll send over a couple cause theres a few close ones.

Add me now and i'll send them asap

Oh and tomorrows only 5mins!

Nope. But that color could have been useful nonetheless! Since we don't get a paint shop in GT5 and duping paint chips is cheating. So I'm not allowed to do it. :sly:

The McLarens don't give out a paint chip no matter what you press. I haven't tried to sort the paint by the McLaren make, but I would bet it doesn't show much if anything.

For real? That's a shame. I like that historic orange.

Tomorrow is only 5min away for you. I've got six hours to go. :indiff:

I'll definitely send you the Mach 1 tomorrow, though. My main PSN is Garage5252. I was doing all this fooling around with paint and cars on a secondary account. :scared:

I can't remember what the Carbon Black paint looks like, but it wouldn't hurt to look around for something similar. I remember seeing some nice metallic and pearl blacks while looking around today.

When I saw the topic title, the first car I thought of was the Grabber Blue Mustang. No paint chip for a premium car? Nice work PD.

You also don't get paint chips for some of the premium Viper paints, like "Viper GTS Blue" and some other colours. I don't like how the game is non-constant, like you can't paint some cars without losing it's stripes, other car's stripes remain after painting.

Yea after i realized i didn't get the historic orange wit the F1 i bought another mp4 thinking i would get the mclaren orange paint chip, which i didn't either. Hate this inconsistency with the game

When I saw that McLaren does not give away it's colors, I started having the strong suspicion that it might be a licensing issue. For many brands, they have strong associations with what colors they produce. My guess is that McLaren allowed to showcase their cars with their respective colors, but don't want their colors to be placed in other brands of cars (Especially with their Ferrari rivals, heh).

I do hope I am wrong though, cuz requiring licenses for color is utmost ridiculous (They are colors for crying out loud!!).

Nope. I have a MP4-12C in both Volcano Red and Historic Orange and don't have a paint chip for either.

Dang, I like that Volcano Orange.

The thing with these licensing issues is that they could probably all be fixed if PD would put those Sony blank checks to good use and offer the manufacturers more money. Instead, they use said blank checks to pay for celebrity-themed events.

Does anyone else see a problem here?

I wanted to paint a SRT10 Viper in the legendary "Viper GTS Blue" ... so I bought a SRT10 coupe from the dealership and... yes!... no color awarded :scared:...

I would have prefered a color palette instead of the paint chip system... since I can't seem to get purple paint... :nervous:

The Audi RS6 from the dealership does not give out a paint chip for Misanorot perleffkt.

I bought the Viper SRT10 also but in copperhead orange, went to paint my wheels the same colour when guess what? They don't give you that chip either!

The odd one for me was not getting the paint chip from an Aristo V300 Vertex..and I don't get why. it was silver.

Yep, everything about that damn paint chip system sucks.
All it ever does it frustrate people and give the game a false sense of longevity, which further proofs how little they actually put in the game.

I want the old viper in it's "real" colors, blue with white stripes. How retarded are they, not putting THE color of the car in the game, or the past GT games!
Afaik only GT1 had the proper colors of that car. It's like making Ferrari's unable to be painted red.

Agreed.I loved the GTS in blue/white stripes. I know the SRT/10 coupe comes in that colour too,it's too bad I can't keep the chip.:/
