Check if this site helps.

Yeah I can see you know your hardware well and I agree that physical programming is more exciting. I have been thinking about buying a cheap and simple drum machine/groovebox for jamming (such as MPC500 or Kaossilator, maybe even an Electribe, nothing too expensive). But I'm not sure if I'm just gonna waste my cash, so do you know if those are reliable and durable?

Most who get a MPC 500 shortly after get the MPC 1000 as they are both very portable however the 1000 just has so many more functions. The sampler is said to be the best out of every other modern MPC . the only thing the 500 has over any of them is battery power lol. As far as quality never heard anything bad about the 500. After one year of me banging on the pads of my 1000 in my live sessions, I am due for a new set of pads lol. Whatever you get just make sure it has MIDI capability so that you can link it with your software and have the best of both worlds.

Here's some of mine:

This one is a solo project, just my bass and synth drums, mainly just an experiment to see what sounds I could make with a bass- http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=9627893&q=hi&newref=1

This is my bands technical piece/warm up song- http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=7136892&q=hi&newref=1

an attempt at a serious song, yes, the vocals need work- http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=7101574&q=hi&newref=1

The crud catcher, all the unused riffs from songs that didn't cut the mustard- http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=6974109&q=hi&newref=1

Had a listen to some of the tunes on here:

Skython, loved the way you constructed your composition, great attention to getting the harmony's right, also the drums were great. Well done

Bigbazz, sounded pro. Reminds me alot of funeral for a friend, which is good, the switch ups and the way the bass was growling its low B in the back ground, top notch 👍

Pako, you one mean mother plucker!! And six strings! damn

Good news, my band are in negotiations about recording some demo's. :D

And madmike, I feel your vocalist should be exploring his range a bit more, it sounds like it needs more emotion.

Congrats tom!

Our vocalist is only temp, he can't really sing all that well and I can't see much room for improvement, we are currently searching for a new singer

I know your problem, my band went through a fair few auditions before we found a singer.

:D Thanks man. That was one of my favorite bass' to pickup and one of my favorite to put down. It weighed almost 16 lbs. :scared:

My new Skjold 5 string weighs in at just under 8 lbs., just under half the weight. :)

Yeah, I can hear it in his voice. There really isn't all too much power that a song like Proglematic Part II needs. Tom put it almost perfectly. He needs to explore his voice a little more. Though other than that I enjoyed listening. It felt quite progressive at times which is really good. Though I must say it ended too soon. :D 👍 To make up for that I am listening to it again.

Why thank you. :embarrassed:  I used to write terrible drum beats until I started listening to Dream Theater. And Mike Portnoy generally displayed how important a good drum beat was so I focused on that.

I don't have a good song yet, but I'm using GarageBand on my iPod. It doesn't have all I need. I'm especially picky with the drums, being a drummer myself, and there's a lot I miss. Anyways, I've got a few songs coming together and I'll post when I'm done.

Finally started learning FruityLoops. My first trance/house/techno/electronica track ever (I was going for kinda sorta a trance vibe but I honestly have no idea what genre this would fall under). I only know the very basics of FL Studio (using the demo) so it's not what you call a very musical track, but I had a lot of fun learning the software and making the song, and I think it sounds pretty good. What do you guys think?

Ran across a really cool site tonight when I was looking for the some drum tracks to jam to. It's called Wikiloops. Anyways, they are doing what I had envisioned with the "Collaborative Recording Session", but this is so much more. Anyways, found a groove that I had to lay my bass down on.

Here it is: http://www.wikiloops.com/backingtrack.php?jamsession=4500

Oh, and that's me on the bass. :D

It's pretty cool man, I am hooked. Gives me a platform to get my groove on since I'm not gigging. It's good practice and gives me a chance to get some solid feedback.
