I'm actually doing a virtual test to buy our next car. Currently we have a '13 Megane Trophy+. Excellent car. Does everything and more. Thing is, me and my wife love many types of cars. She's never owned a BMW but, I have sampled a few from when my brother owned them. We both had Aussie V8 muscle and I owned a '69 Cutlass 455 as well. The next car my wife wants to get will be from another manufacturer. I'm thinking GT6 may be able to help in this choice.

The car will be no more than $60k AUD. The car in GT6 will be no more than 60, 000Cr.

So far, I have bought:

Land Rover Evoque $49, 000-94, 000 AUD/60, 000Cr.

SRT8 Charger(300SRT8 in Australia only) $56, 000(300 SRT8) AUD/46, 660Cr.

Skyline Coupe 370GT(Infiniti Q50/Q60) $51, 600-73, 000 (only 2.2LT & Hybrid in AUST) AUD/44, 730Cr.

GOLF R $52, 000-man-54,490-DSG/50, 000Cr.

(New to Australia) Ford Mustang Boss 302 $ TBA AUD/50, 000Cr.

Ford Focus ST '13 $38, 290 AUD/24, 500Cr.

and Megane R.S. (Trophy+ $50, 800 AUD)/38, 500Cr. the current car we own.

Now, the car she wants, she prefers manual. The 300SRT8 and Q only come as auto which she will happily sacrifice.
We arent concerned with back seat space even though we have a small child and no longer use a pram. The car must have 5 seat belts though.

Another car we will test drive, is the new 2 Series. The 135i is too pricey in GT6. So, it gets to watch from the sidelines this time.

The two performance tests I'll perform are: using Sport Medium (as suggested) as the only changes to the cars(that 6th gear on the Focus ST is going to kill me)

Goodwood Festival for nimbleness and quickness point A to B.

Time Attack at Mount Panorama for outright speed and stability.

Fuel Economy will be tested by running the Willow Springs 20 Mile. Top gear in each car at a steady 110kmh(Speed limit in Australia), no tyre change and see which car has the most fuel left will determine best fuel economy.

I think Sports Softs are a bit to gripy to be compared to a real world tire. I would go with SH or SM.

I'll try the SM tyres. And see how I go. May keep the tyres from wearing too fast on the SRT8 and Mustang at Willow Springs.

Id stay clear of cars that wear fast. I know that the mustang wears real fast, and the price won't include the tires youll run through and its bad economy, I recommend a hatchback for everyday use, good space, fun to drive, and megane would fit those roles.

Either the Golf R or Focus. I personally think the closest tyre to standard would be sports hards, as they're not a track tyre, just a summer standard tyre, and standard tyres are generally agreed to be comfort softs.

We actually own the Megane :) Choosing our next car.

I'd go for the golf gti (only with the performance pack wich includes the vaq diff)
golf r(the newest one, mk7) or audi s3.
Any of those go for the 3mode suspension. They are a must,
With a simple remap you can go from 230to 300hp on the gti and on the others 300 to 370hp and all are roomy/confortable/sporty.

I'll be using SM for all cars. Won't hurt to test the SH standards as well. Will be fun.

Now, my wife did use a Mk 1 Focus as her drive car when she worked for Ford. That experience stuck with her. I test drove a Mk 7 GTI and loved it. Another car I wanted to add was the WRX but, she prefers not to have one. I was thinking of the BR-Z but, after the Megane, I prefer some low end grunt.

I used to own this Mégane RS Cup and there are a couple of things to note. One is that FF cars are very poorly modeled in GT6, it's impossible to get lift-off oversteer on the RS in GT6, even with settings that would make the back come around just looking at the brake. ;) I could never make it handle quite as nimble and non-understeery as in real life. That said, SM are too grippy for the tyres under the RS, SH is much better in terms of lateral Gs and handling. (I had the Sport Monitor installed in the car, so that's what I used to compare the lateral Gs in GT). CS is also not comparable to real life, as you can't make the peak lateral Gs and cornering speeds that you would in real life.

Wonder what the comparison would be with the Cup and +. The + with 19" Continentals versus the 18" Pilots. Plus I'm sure the Recaros are lighter than the RS leather seats in the +. Also, the + has a glass roof.

Time Attack @Goodwood: no practice runs. All cars on SH tyres. Using a DS3.

1. 56.854 SRT8: The torque saves this car. It's a boat on this course.

2.. 57.267 Mustang: handling is awful. I'm surprised it was this quick even though I grazed the walls a few times.

3. 57.752 Megane: the short gearing keeps the boost up. Just like Sport Mode in the Trophy+

4. 58.423 Skyline: feels boring. The revs build slow past 6000rpm. I know the real world engine is much better than this.

5. 58.812 Focus: I can place this car anywhere and it just gives me confidence. The car felt narrow with its nimbleness. The run to the finish felt strong.

6. 59.712 Golf R: strong acceleration from standstill. Turning and grip felt good. Car just doesnt feel/seem fast.

7. 1:00.78 Evoque: felt just like the Focus. Nimble. Feels quicker than it is. I bought one to take pics and sold the prize car. I never drove it to win races. I like it.

Welp, on to Bathurst.

Honda CR-Z- Well those cars like the Land Rover, Megane, etc are not available in our country, in fact, they only appear in motor shows. But in the Philippines, we do have Toyota Prius, Honda CR-Z, Lancer Evolution III or IV.

Anyways the reason why I chose the CR-Z is because it can be tuned unlike the Prius plus it also has Mugen or Modulo version for a hybrid plus its roomy and also futuristic for a Honda

Mercedes CL500 :) are you looking for a new car, or can it be an older model, because this is an absolute tank :D

The Hyundai Genesis seems like it would fit in that list, great value for money that.

Hyundai make good cars. My Aunt bought a then new Excel for $6995 in 1986. She got rid of it in 1997. Not the badge we're considering.

I wouldn't use any computer/console game to base my choice from. Several reasons:

- You can't feel the seats/suspension/build quality
- You can't judge the rear visibility
- Not all cars available in OZ are in the game.
Like the post above, any car nowadays is good(besides a Chery). Depends how long it's being kept for and how much a person wants to spend.Plus, we test drove the Megane 8:08 before we decided to buy the Trophy+. There are cars on our list that are not in Oz yet(Mustang).

Mercedes CL500 :) are you looking for a new car, or can it be an older model, because this is an absolute tank :D
Only new cars.

I would get for that Money the Honda Integra DC5 :) Fast car, with racing aspects but also useable for the everyday life. Perfect mix.

A 370Z would be bang for your buck if it actually had rear seats. An evolution or impreza would give you great performance along with all the convenience in the long run.

From that list?

ST all day long.

It's better in real life than the game would have you believe, ingame gear ratios are miles off.

Only draw back is no LSD, with the use of torque vectoring, causing excessive brake wear, and a higher likelihood of overheating the brakes. Works beautifully though from real world reviews.

Go buy a BRZ or 86. Best bang for your buck. Pretty much track ready. Get a good set of SS tires and away you go. For $60000, you could almost buy 2 in Canada. 1 for you 1 for the wife.Do not buy a Charger. Utter piece of garbage. Terrible fuel mileage if you have a heavy foot.

Man that's a silly way to find where to spend your money.Short your list by your needs and taste and when you come up with 3-4 cars go and test drive them.About fuel economy and stuff check the magazines.

I wouldn't trust a computer game for much beyond prototyping what colour car I wanted to buy. If you're going to be buying the car in real life, you need to test drive it at least once before laying the money down anyway.

Making decisions based on perceived handling in GT6 seems limiting. What if the car drives like crap in GT6 for whatever reason, but in real life turns out to be great?

Anyone who uses GT or any game to choose a real car is going to be be disappointed. You'd have to have a screw loose to think that the physics are any where near accurate enough to get any idea at all how a real car would handle. Go test drive the cars you want to buy, period. get GT or any game completely out of your head in the process of buying a real car. It is pointless.
