Can NFS Shift fill the void left by GT5 delay?

I was thinking about getting Shift- untill I saw those 2 videos. There is no possible way I'm getting it... none at all. Havn't bought a NFS game since Most Wanted came out, and man that was a long time ago for me, I think I was 13 or so. (I'm 18 now!)

I don't like the physics anymore. Especially not with the cheating AI. In every corner you have a 4 wheel slide, it's so annoying, and then the AI haven't got it. It just feels so slow at times. It's a good game for online racing with people of your own level though.

shift is ok for a time filler, the handling even on pro without any aids, well its challenging, but it is no where near GT5, I dare say it is almost the Rfactor game engine, although Rfactor is still a little better, I find that it resembles that the most.

I have a RX8 stage 1 tuned, and also a FD rx7 full tune to stage 2. its a fun game, the norchlife is in it, so I play it for that. but if a ps2 landed on my desk with gt4 I would happily throw GT5 and nfs shift aside, as far as it goes, guys its NFS, its still arcade and just to tune a car for a race is a stupid hassle go to event then u realize u have to tune get out of that go back to garage, try to use the over sensitive controls, its impossible to get it right ull see what I mean. the steering wheel ratio is way out of wack, using a g25 to make 1/4 of a turn on shift u have to do almost 1.5 full turns. its poorly made, my advice grab it to play the ring, and to stay fresh on that track, other then that, go back to GT4, or Live for speed , there is nothing to see here move along :)

I was thinking about getting shift, but after seeing all these bugs and glitches i think i'll just play some Grid and KIllzone 2 until GT5 comes out :P

I think I'm going to try Dirt2.
I would probably prefer Shift if it was a little more simy and minus the glitches.

Those two videos made me laugh LOL:lol:. I don't feel buying shift anymore, maybe I'll rent it for couple of days.

You think shift on the PC and PS3 and 360 are bad? Its a ton worse on the PSP. I have it and played it. The last races are damn near impossible and it seems that there are 3 cars that you cannot win. The Subaru WRX being one of them. The AI cars, when going uphill, do not align with the hill properly and tend to drive into the hill as if like this car=/hill. The cars also tend to be too easy to drift and they lack any real control. Try to race the cars like you would in GT and you won't be able to win at all.

By the way, have people forgotten about GTPSP? That is the game that will hold me off until GT5 comes out this march!!! 800 cars, 35 tracks, this game will last for at least a year after its release.

I wouldn't get DiRT 2. It only has 8 car races which is pretty boring. I might pick up Shift, 16 car races look pretty sweet.

Not really, but not that bad of a game!(my opinion) I'm getting Uncharted 2 and a few other games to hold me till GT5!

I'm curious to know if any of you have actually played Shift and aren't just watching videos and pointing fingers, it's not like any game hasn't suffered from a glitch or a few bugs before. Hell, DiRT had a corrupted save file bug on the PC version, Crysis had some minor DX10 compatibility issues. The point being beta releases (if one for Shift ever existed) are NOT going to solve or even identify every single little problem.

One last thing is Shift doesn't have a dual-personality dilemma, it is a simulation racer just not in the same ways everyone expected it to be, despite the fact it was even mentioned that fun factor was the utmost priority. It's like complaining about GTPSP not having a "proper" career mode because you've read about it in some near-sighted review, despite you knowing about such since E3 all over again.

NFS Shift is realy fun and quite realistic with G25 AND good settings (with standard settings the first feeling is just horrible).

For realistic feeling, you need full steering sensibility, 360° (or min i don't remember) only, no 0 point, full acceleration and braking sensibility...and the most important, keep ESP and ABS on (with pro physic), real cars have it and it's much more realistic (and drivable) with!!

Ps: I use to play GTR evo with G25

Forza 3 will be the void-filler for me.

NFS Shift is a great game but I still think putting it up against Gran Turismo isn't a fair fight when it should be going up against games like GRID (and Shift would have won that easily).

Then again I don't play racing games exclusively so I think I'll be fine.

What I hear so far is that NFS is not realstic but more realstic over GRID and Dirt Series...

If I were you, I would consider Forza 3, so far I hear people love the demo, physics changed dramatacally, i bet GT5 will be more realistic, but because of Forza series, PD would not give damage, and rollover for all cars!!!!!

I agree .. and since we are expressing our opinions, here's mine.

for most folks here ... if you are not using a wheel, you may not have the best opinion on the game being a simulation.

I would say try a civic and an old school corolla in the ebisu circuit (time attack with 0 oponents) with a wheel then tell me what your opinion is. Most of the videos shown does not give the game justice.

And dirt2 is just as much fun, again with a wheel, a bit closer to sim than it was before.

I was going to buy shift, but I changed my mind and have decided to save my money for any type of GT5 collectors edition. In shift, all the cars appear to drift when you turn, and I think that it should have included a few more tracks.

There is no GT5 delay, yet. :sly:

AI in SHIFT is the best I've ever come across!
Is it annoying? Hell yes!! Is it unfair? No, it just uses every inch of the track to be in front of you ! It actually acts like real race drivers, building up pressure, makes mistakes and even pulling the Trulli-train, if you know what I mean. ;) Not once have I seen them acting 'unfair'!
Now if Blackbox EA could've resisted being involved in this we wouldn't even have all the glitches I guess.:dunce:
(which most of them I haven't experienced yet btw :odd: )

NFS Shift won't be a match for GT5, but it is a far, far better sim/game than GT4.

PS, Shift is at it's best in time trials, the AI is too aggressive to have enjoyable races.

NFS Shift is very good.
It does know where it is. It's there to please the sim fans and the arcade fans which it does. You guys just seem to be the ones that dont like it for some reason, probably because of the label.
Ive been playing it every day since the day before release. Mainly designing track cars with the money I have as I have no interest in super cars.
I dont usually go for driving games that arnt fully sim, but this fits in somehow. It feels good to drive, the cars have a weight to them which I dont feel in GT5P.
Dont get me wrong, GT5 will be much better than NFS:S.
I also rate NFS:S quite a bit higher than SCC.
