So I know washing your car ups your HP but does painting it? I know when you first paint it says that it doesn't need a wash. Just wondering because I paint alot of cars and am curious if I should wash them first.

What? Washing your cars or painting them doesn't even increase your HP. Also, why do you wash your cars in the game when it doesn't even change anything.
There's no difference in visuals. Just paint your cars, don't wash them, there's no need you're just wasting credits.

Ok now I feel like a real noob! Guess washing does nothing?, looks like I'm gonna have to find out where I read that. Thanks alot guys

Washing your car does make a visual difference. It is subtle, though. If you do a forum search you can find threads that show it.

The carwash thin is useless realy, it doesnt increas the performance or the fun of the game. Which they would implement more important stuff in this game.

So maybe it's not ridiculous

Driving your car in A-Spec/B-Spec accumulates "dirt". It is not dirt per-se, it is more-less visible as car loosing it's shine and becoming more matte.

More important - by "getting dirty" cars loose their aerodynamic properties around 7-10%.

Washing the cars brings aerodynamic back to default.

It is like that since first Gran Turismo.

Of all the times I've washed my cars in GT5 I've seen hardly any visual changes, so I don't bother with it.

Maybe a shiny car is more aerodynamic?

Being shiny is a small visual change on a car and it doesn't affect aerodynamics and even if they did it would change the Performance Points not the HP.

Thanks for pointing that out. I wondered why I wasn't any faster, despite all the lathering.

PS are you American?

Can someone post the dirtiest car?

I just ran the X2010 through a 24hr at Le Mans, and it was as clean as before it started.

It would be awesome if rather than modelling useless stuff like the grass moving with the wind of a passing car, they modelled true dirt and racing grime on a car. There is nothing sexier than a dirty car as a result of an endurance race.

A few porsches in the porsche museum have been intentionally left dirty after a 24hr race!

Also, dont forget that a smooth, metallic surface has lower drag than a dirty and rough surface. Personally I think that's the only thing that dirtiness would affect.

:dunce:
Why on Earth would a car wash increase horsepower? I don't mean to sound like a bit of a jerk, but that doesn't make any kind of sense on any level. Sure, in some video games you can be bleeding to death from wounds all over your body and then eating food magically heals your wounds, but that doesn't mean GT has magic car washes that boost your car's RPG stats. Driving your car in the rain for long enough will never give your car +3 to wet weather driving, and banging your car into walls will never build up immunity to collisions.

I have intentionally avoided washing my Zonda to see how bad it will get. It isn't consistently dirty. On some races it will look less dirty than the previous race. It may simply be bad lighting. Or... good lighting.

Dirt is noticeable in the game. I don't know that it actually affects anything, though.

Wash a FGT. The guys wash the air around it. I think it's the aero dynamic air though.

Maybe they wash the dirt out of the air intake. H.P. Up as a result. My cars aren't getting dirty enough for this to work.

If you do an endurance event, your car will look pretty disgusting at the end. But if you don't wash it, it looks clean the next time you use it.

I think it's in there for a bit of fun "driving stress relief" only, and it does give you a good 360 view of your motor! I'm glad it's still in the game, even if useless.....

While that is true, it will have a little less shine than a washed car does. See the thread I posted earlier.

I like the look of a dirty car after a nice hard race 👍. But throughout the GT series the car wash has done basically nothing in terms of performance or looks. Just a little more shine, that's all.

That is a very interesting picture Vol Jbolaz. I plan on now washing a few racing cars of mine too to see what happens. So far, I cannot tell ANY difference.

I suspect the 'car wash' feature is the most pointless feature in GT5. Hopefully not a lot of resources went into creating it.

That's the right answer m8 ... 👍
Besides that, when a car is very dirty, is weight will be also a little more, so yes washing a car gives extra BHP's.
:)
