Complaints about the quality and quantity of A-Spec events are obvious, and we'll not discuss them here. ;)

Before GT5, there was a nice little game called GT PSP. It featured NO career mode whatsoever, and was highly critiqued for it. It did have one other feature however, and one that GT5 lacks no less: pick a track, pick a car, set the options, drive and win cash. Dare I say that in this respect GT PSP provides more replay value than GT5 as far as the single player experience is concerned?

So, which option do you prefer? An extensive career mode like GT4, with gazillions of predefined events? Or a 'pick whatever you feel like' event selector/creator?

Discuss!

No career mode, no sale.

And GT5's career mode is rather inadequate.

I would like to see the GT PSP feature of making your own events and receiving prizes implemented into GT5.

But I think that a standard career mode is still necessary though, as licenses and special events simply isn't enough.

I think it would be best to have a smaller career but more seasonal events and a larger variety of seasonal with different lengths and some championship style as well
Plus add prize cars to them

With the internet it just makes more sense to do it that way

it was actually to only thing i did in GT4. and i expected a improvement on for career mode. but it seems to be less good. Less events, less tracks, less championchips...

Maxitsu
Less events, less tracks, less championchips...

It defiantly needs a revamp before next game
Hopefully a DLC will have tracks and a career extension

I've never liked career mode very much at all, it's very boring & the motor racing is unrealistic, I've only ever forced myself to endure it to get credits to buy cars.

Your idea of: "...a 'pick whatever you feel like' event selector/creator..." sounds a lot better imo. Also, I can't belive we still don't get credits for the Single Make races in Practice Mode, common sense & making the most of what you got don't apply to PD!

Absolute necessity. I stopped playing GT PSP because of no career.

Careen Mode is unnecessary, and mandatory career mode is just a headache.

The whole point of a racing game is to race, everything else is extra basically. Some extras are nice, but to me career mode isn't one of those nice extras.

I feel (though I'm open to correction) that most people, even the ones who like GT Mode, buy GT for racing. This makes it hard for me to understand why some are so opposed to the idea of a GT game that does not center itself around a career mode (this does not mean it would have no career mode). A racing game without a career is a still a racing game. Without racing it isn't.

At the present time, the best racing in GT can only be had online. There is more options, it's more challenging, and it doesn't get repetitive. I see GT as an online game, and that is why it has so much potential. That potential is robbed by the forcing players to give up online to play off. It should be an option.

Necessary. I'm a goal-oriented person and need a clearly defined finishing line when I set out to race. No career = no sale.

To the people that have played gt5 from the start like me, GT wouldn't be the same without career mode. It's a simulator, it's all about starting small in little sunday cups then ending a pro racecar driver.

You can't just jump show up at a race like Le mans and show up with an LMP, you have to have experience. GT is always remembered by it's career mode, and without that, GT isn't itself anymore. It becomes just another racing game.

Agreed, less cars(unlocked)-the premiums would have been enough,I'm playing the game since the release date and haven´t tried all yet, and guess I never will-more tracks-real World Circuits- and a better PP system that would allow a better match up of cars and above all a better and richer customization of online mode:

-Host enforcement of ABS off;

-Restrict the cars at least by the available options(i.e. Year, Made, Transmission, Country, etc) not to mention things like Road\Racing cars, DTM, JGT300, Rally, etc.

The way I see it consoles need a Massive Multiplayer Racing game PC Sims wise and allow the community to taylor the events at their will.

I've played GT5 from the start, and the whole GT series too. I wouldn't miss GT Mode in the least if it just dissappeared. It would be more of a racing game.

The point about showing up at LeMans in a LMP doesn't really fit. I've done the career 5 times now (somehow, each time I manage to lose the millions I've made in years past, and my cars, and licenses). I drive in real life. Also, GT5 isn't real life, so no one should care if someone who has never seen a car before steps into a F1 racer.

But again, the solution is so very simple. Keep GT Mode, but make it optional.

I guess, you probably couldn't expect an option like that anytime soon except for gt6, I think kaz probably wants to work on the next gt rather than his one. I really don't expect any important updates but just new OCD cars and Seasonals

Career mode is the main part in GT5 and all other good GT games. If GT5 had better a-spec, it would be a better game. Look at my sig.. GT4's a-spec was over 4 times bigger than GT5's. That is why GT5 is crap compared to what it SHOULD be.

Career mode is great. However I played GT PSP alot, though mostly doing time trial laps and drifting to get credits.

GT5's career is leaves much to be desired. But in my opinion it isnt as bad as many make it out so be. The nice thing about career mode is how it forces the player to buy cars they may very well never have looked at otherwise.

Even GT3 destroys GT5 in terms of carrer mode. I counted the numbers of races and events in both games and this is what I got:

GT3 Go Race Events

Events: 85
Races: 330+

GT5 A-spec Events + Special Events

Events: 62
Races: 180+

The number of events/races for GT5 would be even smaller if I didn't count the special events and some of those events aren't even basic races. Not only does GT3 have almost more than half of the races to do than GT5, the races also got longer each time you moved up a series, so that really made GT3 last. That doesn't happen in GT5.

^^^ I know, it is pathetic. Kaz/PD could EASILY fix the low event/race count in GT5. The HARD part is designing the physics engine, GFX engine, CAR models and tracks. The relatively easier part is giving us freaking RACES and championships to use all that content!

I could make up a few hundred races and championships.

WTFPD?????

GT is many things to many people. Personally, I could care less about career mode. I found the whole progression, earning credits and 'buying' cars boring and pointless. A lot of people want more events. That's fine. Others are desperate for a save option for endurance events. Great. But with the horrible state of the AI, I can't really understand why anybody cares about either of these options. The only thing worth playing in GT5 is online mode. And if you find the right group of online friends, you know, real, living, breathing, THINKING opponents, it's a zillion and six times better than anything in offline mode. I really could care less what level I am or how many XP I have. The only thing that matters to me personally is the enjoyment I have racing other people.

I would be more apt to accept a system similar to GTPSP as an alternative to the traditional GT Mode (not the crap that GT5 has. Traditional) if the system in GTPSP wasn't so half-assed.

Seasonal events included?? But i guess at wouldn't make a difference.

Agreed, and the only thing they would need to do to make it so is just add credits/XP rewards to practice (and probably rename it to something other than practice ;)).

We all agree that GT5 A-Spec is 'sub-optimal'. Forcing you to repeat the same events ad nauseum in order to obtain cash and XP is a real no-non IMO. And that's exactly the reason why I like GT PSPs solution more: it doesn't force you to repeat anything (though granted, it is a bit shallow and could do with some extras like extra race types etc.).

Hopefully, PD have gotten the point and won't include that abomination in any future titles.

- Online can never be a substitute for career mode or excuse for lack of offline content
- Without a proper, polished career mode GT would be just an ok simulator, not a *game*

This topic really needed a poll.

For me, had this game not had the career mode, I probably wouldn't have bought it. However, I know some players don't like to have to work for things but rather just want everything handed to them right away, so I support having an arcade mode on the side, wherein they can select tracks and cars at will to race as they please. Fortunately, the game has both. It's a win-win.

Personally, I could care less about career mode.

Couldn't. You couldn't care less. People sound like they've just had a botched lobotomy when they say/post that they "could care less".

http://incompetech.com/gallimaufry/care_less.html

And yes, it does make a difference. The little "n't" or "not" that you're overlooking completely changes what you're saying. It's like the difference between "is hot" and "is not hot".

That's a pet peeve of mine.

Of course its necessary. While I think GT6 should have an Arcade akin to GT4's, and if they are to keep the leveling system, they should include a GTPSP-type mode, having events to beat is absolutely essential. Career mode is the best way to experience the game, as it is not only extremely addictive, but also gives you a tour of all the cars and tracks the game has to offer.

No career mode, no sale for me - even if they do fix online play.

No career mode? Take away that feeling of progression?

No way. That's one of the reasons why I love GT so much. Starting out with a crap bucket, and eventually earning your way to a real winner. Beginning with some low prize events, all the way up to epic and long championship battles. That's the beauty and appeal of GT (career) mode.

For me the career mode is essential. First of all it has always been the centre of a GranTurismo title and has been the main reason, why I bought each one in the first place.
This is also the main reason behind my utter disbelief at what was provided (or not for that matter) with GT5. The fact that my crappy internet connection doesn't allow me to race online adds to that.

The problem with PD's career mode, however, is that they frankly never got it right, really. The AI doesn't even deserve its name and makes one cringe at the thought of what Artificial Stupidity must look like. Another sad trademark of GT is that there has always been those one or two cars which are 5 or more seconds faster than the complete field, so you always end up fighting a single opponent and all others are just annoying obstacles on the way to the first corner. That's why I can understand those, who don't really give a damn about career mode, but for me it's still the make or break of any proper GranTurismo.

I liked the GT4 career mode and, of course, it is indispensable.
