I have just found out that sometimes car's gas pedal must be released if the driver want to get faster, when it must be done?

Where did you find this out, and exactly how was it worded?

Are you saying, that sometimes if a driver wants to go faster, he lets off the pedal? If so, the only situation I can think of that is related to the question is when you shift with a stick.

I suppose this is based on a simple misunderstanding, so if you, SL4sh, would be so kind to provide us with the source, we might be able to help. :)

If you drive over a cliff the accelerator becomes useless. So you let off, and because of gravity you gain speed.

I am a genius.

It could have to do with the clutch (or whatever) on an automatic car. It seems that our Volvo is accelerating, even at 30 if you stay off the gas, yet you have to be able to hold speeds less than that.

Pehaps it was in referance to cornering, when you can acctually 'go faster' by laying off the accelerator a little when required, but that is more about exit speed than current speed.

^^^^ Now that actually makes sense: slow in, fast out.

The OP's phrasing of the question could possibly have been a bit too vague. . . . Apparently English is not a native language so it's hard to criticize, though.

It could also be in autos guys, especially diesels for example. I have driven turbo diesel Ford Rangers, and to go faster in the auto, you should let off the accelerator at the right rpm to trick it into shifting earlier and keep it in the power band, otherwise with the foot flat the auto just makes the engine rev its guts out, and in a diesel this is rather pointless when there is no power up high in the rev range.

I my mum's old automatic Proton when you put the gear lever into drive mode the car would accelerate to 5 mph by itself.
