That sumbitch has thwarted me for the last time. It has basically smoked my butt on every race I've ever seen it, except on ovals. So i'm going to beat it at its own game.

I've seen it in the Used Cars once, but couldn;t afford it and didn't really know what it was, so I'm just going to grind out with my "Vette RM and check the used cars till it pops up again. I got nothing else to do till I get to level 25 anyway.

I bet once I have it, it drives like a brick :grumpy:

It drives really well actually, it uses the same sort of tech as the X1, it has 2 fans which take air away from the bottom of the car, couple this with side skirts, it provides so much grip.

Why not get something better, say the 787B..

I think it looks cooler.

I'm also going to snag a ZZII while I'm at it, due to the reviews on the forum...

Glad to hear that it handles well.

Maybe Scotty Pissant will enjoy it in B-Spec mode too...

It's been my workhorse for a while, B-spec bob(or porsche-man as I call him for his hilarious attempts at driving the RUF CTR) loves it too, think I got lucky and got it with the Lv17 car ticket :D

The 2J is an AMAZING car, I love it. It's slow off the line but once it gets going it's a monster, one of my favorite cars to drive.

However, I do prefer the 2D to it. It's not necessarily faster, but I find it much more fun to drive. I really wish they had included the 2F and the 2H as well...and was really hoping they'd be premiums.

The 2J looks like a rolling air conditioner. But it ROCKS on the track. Those fans give it amazing downforce at low speeds. That's why McClaren whined and had it banned.

It pretty much didn't win a lot because it was let down by mechanical faults.

They should really implement fans for down force into F1, may actually see some overtaking then if the cars weren't so reliant on down force from old fashioned aerofoils which are easily disrupted by turbulent air.

But it ran so well when it worked that they banned it. It typically qualified first by seconds.
Heh, I just researched the car recently too.

The SCCA succumbed to pressure from other teams, McLaren in particular, who argued that the fans constituted 'movable aerodynamic devices' which were outlawed by the international sanctioning body FIA (which was first applied against the 2E's adjustable-wing).
It also drove crazy in GT4.

It is a great car, but I don't get why it costs more "used" in GT5 than it did "new" in GT4 >__>
It's such a pain in the classic race car event though. Well, on Deep Forest anyway, it sucked at Monaco :P

^ Because PD went crazy and decided that all of the used cars should cost twice as much as what makes any sense.

The 2J would probably be faster than the 787B is, if it drives anything like it did in GT4.

I had to find out why that funny-looking car owned me so bad the first time I ran the historic race.

After I got the track down better it was no problem.

So after grinding all night for money and XP and checking the used cars every five races, I finally get the 2J to cycle around.

14,000,000cr. I was only still about 6,000,000 short and selling my whole 70 car garage wouldn't have got me enough.

Why oh why....

The reason they don't allow it or any other ground effect downforce in F1 is because they're trying to limit the cars speed for safety reasons. Brabham already tried this in the 70's with the BT46b which had a single fan and flexible skirts, it raced once, it won by a mile and was banned after it's only race.

The 787B was faster than the 2J. The 2J goes up against the American race cars in GT4, and well, would win. The 787B was up with the LMP's and was faster than most of them(not top speed), except the Group C cars.

The 2J was perfectly capable to taking on full on Group C cars, so long as the track was smooth and you kept the revs up. The 2J was also much more friendly in regards to throttle inputs, for obvious reasons.

It had around 3 gears, right? I don't remember the 2J capable of Group C, unless you pumped up the HP. Maybe they were equal, as you could easily take on Group C cars in the 787B as well, so long as there were no long straights.

I was able to get ahold of a 2J thanks to a friendly trade.

2J can not be beat in a corner or a tight handling track. It's grip and raw power are simply too much for any other car to keep up.

However it has a serious disadvantage at high speeds due to lack of Downforce. If things get fast and bumpy, you're going for a ride, and the slightest nudge from another car will send you spending like a top.

I'll be having a great time driving the 2J. Just not at Sarthe or Nordschlieffe...

If you set the MPH (in transmission settings) to around 160 or so, this car smokes the rest on the Monaco circuit!! Love it.

I used the 2J in GT4 to win Le Mans 24H enduro (with chicanes) with nothing but an oil change, canny pit strategy and exemplary driving for 200 A-spec points!! Fuel mileage was better than the group C cars and my laps were typically a little faster that the AI.

Ah the good old fan car. Many a post about it when it was in GT4. Not really had a problem with it yet im only upto 22 though. That fliping MAZDA 787b keeps doing me in the All Stars. Im using the stealth Mclarren F1 as I usually under power myself to get a bit of fun out of the AI. I think now im gonna have to rethink that stratergy.

Isn't it highly dangerous as well? say if you go over a big bump that the skirts cant deal with means a massive loss of downforce
