Hello everyone

I created this thread specifically for classic era of Need for speed from 1 to Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2.

I had some great times playing the old need for speed's got me into cars with its beautiful showcases.

Old games are awesome, and real classics some people need to play to fully understand the essence and origins of the series.
My first one was Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit, I still remember driving the Countach in that snowy map (forgot the name of it) and being chased by the police.
Hope after Payback we get back to Rivals/Hot Pursuit type of games.

So you want a discussion of classic NFS titles, huh? Try this one from me...

Need for Speed has played a great part in my education of cars. I consider myself a classic NFS fan than almost any modern NFS. I still remember downloading a demo on America Online of "The Need for Speed." Even with just two laps around Autumn Valley in a Dodge Viper R/T-10, I appreciated the experience. I later got the full game and enjoyed it.

In that same time, I appreciated Road and Track Magazine and the finer details of cars. For a while, I stayed away from future NFS titles because my PC couldn't handle later titles. That all changed when I got a better PC and a pack of NFS titles ranging from "NFS2SE" to "NFS: Hot Pursuit 2." For the longest, I have always wanted to play "NFS2SE," but my 8MB RAM, 75 MHz PC couldn't handle the 16MB RAM, 90 MHz requirements of that game. I still consider "Need for Speed 2: Special Edition" my all-time favorite NFS.

"Need for Speed 3" was a fine title that is a beautiful looking game. This was kind of the maturation of NFS with the inclusion of police pursuits. I was able to get the bonus track and maybe some of the bonus cars.

Along came "Need for Speed: High Stakes." NFS:HS was an even lovelier title. Three different Pursuit style races made things interesting. These were just things that took NFS3 further. I especially enjoyed NFS:HS because the 4th Generation Chevrolet Camaro was the car that got me into cars back in 1998. I think it also had the modern Pontiac Firebird/Trans-Am, which I also liked.

When Electronic Arts held on to the Porsche license, the best thing they've ever done was "Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed." At the time, I didn't understand why NFS didn't do one on Ferrari or Lamborghini. Or maybe they don't want a Ferrari game with an acronym of "NFS:FU." I didn't appreciate Porsche all that much in the past. These days, though, I am very much appreciative of Porsche. Playing NFSPU made me appreciate Porsche for their performance and their appeal.

Unfortunately, I can't discuss "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2" because I misplaced the CD code to unlock it. So I never got to experience the last NFS before the Underground games.

I am assuming "Classic NFS games" means any game in the NFS series before "Need for Speed: Underground." But... you have my classic NFS thoughts. You're welcome.

NFS Hot Pursuit 2 was my first foray into the NFS series, and was the first game I purchased for the PS2. I enjoyed the simplicity of racing and escaping from the police, as well as the structure of the events to unlock the vehicles and of course the NFS editions of all the cars. Plus, it had one of the coolest intro videos of all time!

I started with High Stakes. That was my second NFS loved it.. Played it so much dang near wore the disc out.

Its good to see people enjoying the classics of this series.

Such a shame I never played NFS HP2 on Ps2 I mainly played it on PC. Ps2 version was miles ahead. Pc version gave me many good memories.

NFS III and High Stakes are epic nostalgia trips for me, alot of it is in the music but the menus and images too. I think High Stakes is the better game but III has its moments and proves you dont need a huge car list to make a good game. The tracks for both are great too.

I really like the Atlantica Circuit in III the place just feels bigger and more alive than it is, almost like its a city. The good thing about graphics from this era is there was just enough detail to know what you are looking at but your imagination could fill in the blanks a bit.

Could talk about those games forever, I enjoy most NFS games but III and High Stakes are indeed special to me. Those along with Gran Turismo 1 and 2 and F1 98 really got me into cars and racing.

It was that game where my love for Porsches begun. Like the rich history of Porsche on a video game. What more can I ask?

Plus this is a good example of a racing game that utilizes one car brand properly.

Looks at Ferrari Legends

TD Ferrari Legends was awful to be honest when I played it for me literally does not come close to NFS Porsche Unleashed but felt boring and soulless.

I have a lot of good memories playing Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit. I loved the Lamborghini Countach so very much :)

I also remember being a kid and wondering if Atlantica was a real place. I'm pretty sure I searched for it on our then Windows 98 computer, likely to the load-up sound of dial-up internet. I don't know at what point I realized that it was a fictional place, but still I really wanted to go there. Oh, and what about that retro-futuristic electronica music? How it made you feel like you were lost in the dream-space of speed and high octane...

I found out recently that Morphadron is an alias for Rom Di Prisco. All my life listening the NFS Porsche OST to death, and 20 years later I realise the same genius that made the menu music of High Stakes made those magnificent songs like Centrifuge, Dr Know or RU Ready.

I mean, look at the number of absurdly good tracks the guy made for the franchise. It's just insane:
