Car & Driver Poster 170914.jpg

Our 24 Round Classic Racing Series will come to an end on 31st August and will be replaced with a new series of 15 Round Championships commencing September 14th 2014 with a test / meet and greet day on Sunday 7th September at 17:00 BST. The championships will finish on Sunday 21st December 2014. Anyone currently racing in our existing series which include: World Classic Cars, Cobra Ferrari Wars, One Make and Senna Tribute will automatically be signed up for the new championships. Car choice will be based on the points achieved in the Cobra Ferrari Wars championship.

The main event will be for Historic Le Mans cars which competed in the 1960's and will be titled "Ford Ferrari Wars". This will be supported by "Historic BSCC" (today known as the BTCC) - this race will be held before the main event. Additional support will be provided by a one make series featuring the Caterham Fireblade, called "Caterham Cup" - to be held after the main event.

Please raise any queries with me (Sick_Cylinder) via GT Planet message or via this thread.

Some of us have been racing together for several years (since the start of GT5), but racers come and go and we are always looking to recruit new members. We might be too slow for you- there are no potential GT Academy winners in our group - just like minded enthusiasts who can't afford to race cars for real!

This clip gives you a taste of a 1964 BSCC Race - well worth a look!

Note - I have made some changes to the car choice options for category 1 in order to enable people to race on a lower budget. Also some changes to colour guidance to help with identification of category. A speed guide has been added to help you choose cars.

Further colour choice and wheel changes were added on 27th September for Cobras in order to increase the authenticity of race pictures - The Category 1 Cobras are replicas of the 1963 Sanderson Bolton car, while the Category 2 Cobras are replicas of the 1964 Fraissinet Mortemart car or 1963 Hugus Jopp car.

Amendment 10th September - Art Morrison Corvette deleted due to unfairly high top speed.

Amendment 13th August - Ford GT40 Road Car deleted due to problems exiting pits.

Historic BSCC: Mini Cooper 1.3i 1998 (18,320), Renault 8 Gordini 1966 (50,000), Buick Special (725,000) - Tune to 350bhp max, 640kg min

Caterham Cup: Caterham Seven Fireblade 2002 (60,000) - Max Tune

Ford Ferrari Wars (Historic Le Mans Sports Cars) - untuned (tuning prohibited) DO NOT remove the bumpers from the Cobras as this prevents them entering a tuning prohibited room.
To make it easier for people to compete we are allowing the Anniversary Cobra Daytona Coupe which some people got free with the game.

We have split the cars into Category 1 (Fast, but expensive) and Category 2 (Slower and harder to drive, but cheaper). I have tested all the cars and if anyone wants advice on which cars to buy and which category to race in please send me a conversation message via GT Planet.

Category 1 Cars Final 4.jpg

Category 1 Options - choose 1, 2 or 3 of 4 according to your budget

Chaparral 2D 1967
(3.75m) Completed 111 laps of Le Mans before mechanical failure
Ferrari 330 P4 1967 (20m) Winner of World Sports Car Championship 1967
Jaguar XJ13 1966 (20m) Never raced (Chromeline also accepted if it has already been purchased)
Ford MK4 1967 (20m) Le Mans winner 1967

Category 1 Extra Cars Final Amended.jpg

Lower Cost Options - choose 0, 1 or 2 according to your budget

Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe 1964 (4.5m) Le Mans class winner 1964, World Sports Car Championship Winner 1965 (Paint Mountain Green to simulate AC A98 Coupe driven by Jack Sears and Peter Bolton - completed 77 laps of 1964 Le Mans before accident)

Shelby Cobra 427 S/C Chrome Line (610,000) Mountain Green to simulate AC Cobra Le Mans class winner 1963 driven by Ninian Sanderson and Peter Bolton - change wheels to PDI P525N and paint Metallic Moondust Silver (refer to Cobra Colour Guide near bottom of thread). If using this car, to increase authenticity you could use race number 3 as it is available - if interested contact Sick Cylinder. Race number should be Type C Font A.

NB Mountain Green paint is obtained by purchasing a Chevrolet El Camino in mountain green.
Metallic Moondust Silver paint is obtained by purchasing a Ford Ka '01 in Moondust Silver.

Category 2 Cars

1. Shelby Cobra 427 1966 (530,550) Metallic Metropolis Blue to simulate 1964 AC Cobra Le Mans car driven by Fraissinet and Mortemart - change wheels to Classic Wire Knock Off 2 Bar and paint metallic Moondust Silver (refer to Cobra Colour Guide near bottom of thread). If using this car, to increase authenticity you can use race number 64 as it is available - contact Sick Cylinder if interested. Race Number should be Type B Font A.
OR as above, but paint Cirrus White and fit PDI P525N wheels and paint them Moondust Silver. race Number should be Type B Font A.
OR purchase Shelby Cobra in original white with blue stripes and fit PDI P525N wheels and paint them Moondust Silver. race Number should be Type B Font A.

2. Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe 1964 (4.5m) Le Mans class winner 1964, World Sports Car Championship Winner 1965 - original colour or anniversary model.

3. Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C2) Race Car 1963 (750,000) - original colour

The Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe is expensive and the Corvette C2 race Car is very difficult to drive, therefore you can replace one of these two cars with a Shelby Cobra Chromeline painted Metropolis blue or Cirrus White - wheels and other details as per the normal Cobra detailed above.

NB Category 2 Cobra Paints - metallic Metropolis Blue and metallic Moondust Silver are obtained by purchasing Ford Ka's '01 in those colours. Cirrus White is obtained by purchasing a Lotus Europa Series 2 1968.

Shelby Cobra 427 S/C Chrome Line (610,000)
Metallic Metropolis Blue to simulate 1964 AC Cobra Le Mans car driven by Fraissinet and Mortemart - change wheels to Classic Wire Knock Off 2 Bar and paint metallic Moondust Silver (refer to Cobra Colour Guide near bottom of thread). If using this car, to increase authenticity you can use race number 64 as it is available - contact Sick Cylinder if interested.

Speed Guide - Category 1

Category 1 - to be competitive against multiple champion Lex Lathor you will need to be a very good driver with deep pockets and to choose any 3 of the 4 prototype cars - they were all equally fast in testing. Many of us however are not racing with a realistic chance of becoming champion of category 1 - this guidance is for you:
The Cobra Daytona Coupe is the fastest of the alternative cars. The two Cobras turn similar lap times, but are slower than the Cobra Coupe.

Speed Guide - Category 2

Category 2 - to be competitive against the very rapid BTHPimiki54 or Flaco you will need to be a very good driver. The following guidance is to help you choose your cars if you are planning to race in Category 2.
Fastest Lap Times = Cobra Daytona Coupe
Second fastest car = Chevrolet Corvette C2 Race Car (629bhp with oil change) - very fast, but difficult to control - one for expert drivers as it requires constant adjustment of brake and throttle on corner entry.
Next fastest car = Shelby Cobra - nice to drive, but runs out of speed on long straights
Alternative Car to the Cobra Daytona Coupe or Corvette C2 - Chromeline Cobra has good top speed, but slightly less cornering grip than normal Cobra. Slower lap times than Daytona Coupe and slower lap times than Corvette C2 with expert driver.

Car Choices

Racers change cars for rounds 1-5, 6-10 and 11-15. Car choice is based on finishing position* in the "Cobra Ferrari Wars" Championship e.g. the champion will start with the Ford MK4 for rounds 1-5. *Finishing position of drivers who have participated in at least one of the last four rounds.

Racers can choose to race in Category 1 or Category 2.

The Category 2 cars produce slower lap times, therefore a separate championship will be run for these cars. There will therefore be two champions at the end of 15 rounds of racing. To have the best chance of success in Category 1 racers are advised to pick 3 of the first 4 cars and avoid the Cobra Daytona Coupe and Chromeline Cobra.

If racers wish to switch from Category 2 to Category 1, they may do so provided the switch occurs within the first six weeks of the start of the championship - reasons for switching could include earning enough credits to switch or because they are finding the Category 2 cars too difficult to drive. Racers cannot switch from Category 1 to Category 2.

To aid with identification, where possible, cars should feature a racing number - note the number can only be changed on the Jaguar XJ13 and the Shelby Cobra's.

To aid with identification Category 1 Cobra Daytona Coupe's will be painted "Mountain Green" (this colour is obtained by purchasing an appropriately coloured Chevrolet El Camino).

To aid with identification Category 2 Cobra Daytona Coupe's will be painted in the original Colour.

FFW Car Choice Poster 100914.jpg

BSCC Power Limit is now 350bhp

How the table works

Racers change cars after every five rounds. Racers start on the table according to their finishing points position in the "Cobra Ferrari Wars" Championship - i.e. racers who finished in 1st or 4th place use a Renault 8 Gordini for rounds 1-5 followed by a Buick Special for rounds 6-10. Racers who finished 2nd or 5th use a Buick Special for rounds 1-5 followed by a Classic Mini for rounds 6-10.

Category 2

The Historic Le Mans cars listed for Category 1 are expensive in credits, therefore for those racers who don't have the time or inclination to grind away on the Red Bull Challenge for credits an alternative cheaper race series has been created called category 2 which will run simultaneously. Anniversary Edition cars will be eligible to race.

If you refer to the test results above, the Chaparral represents the best value in terms of performance per credit followed by the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe.

With the Historic BSCC cars, alternative cars are not listed because they are cheap (the Buick Special is the most expensive at 725,000 credits). With limits of 640kg minimum and 350bhp maximum the cars are surprisingly similar in performance.

Why these Cars?

"Ford Ferrari Wars" - Historic Le Mans - all the cars selected raced at Le Mans or were designed to apart from the Corvette C2 Race Car (NB for the purpose of this championship we are pretending that the Cobras are 289 models!). You can vote for the 289 Mark 1 Cobra here:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/shelby-cobra-mk1-1962.302857/

You can vote for the 289 Mark 2 Cobra here:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/ac-cobra-mark-2-le-mans-3-1963.316001/

The cars date from a period when, in the racing world Ford was at war with Chevrolet domestically and Ferrari internationally - Enzo Ferrari had misled Henry Ford into believing that he wanted Ford to buy his Company, but it was a ruse to push up the share price and at the last minute he pulled out of negotiations with Ford and sold a 50% stake to Snr Agnelli of Fiat. Ford was incensed and vowed to defeat Ferrari at le Mans - the rest as they say is history!

Historic BSCC - the great icons of the early BSCC included the mini 1961 (Sir John Whitmore), 1978 and 1979 (Richard Longman 1275GT).

BSCC Mini.jpg

The Ford Galaxie 7 litre 1963 (Jack Sears) and also raced by Sir Gawaine Baillie and Jim Clark - the nearest car in the game is the Buick Special. Vote for the Galaxie here:

Caterham Fireblade
Designed by Colin Chapman and introduced in 1957 as the Lotus Seven this car has been continuously developed and has formed and still forms one of the pillars of UK club racing.
The rights to the design were sold by Lotus to Caterham Cars in 1973. Modern versions have greatly improved engines, transmissions, brakes and suspensions, but remain true to Colin Chapman's mantra "Just add lightness". The original Lotus Seven featured an 1,172cc Ford sidevalve engine producing 40bhp. The most extreme form of the car was the Caterham Levante of which eight were produced to commemorate the cars 50th anniversary. This car came with two compulsory days of track tuition - necessary to handle the extreme performance of 1,000bhp per tonne. The Levante was powered by an RS Performance 2.4 litre 40 valve supercharged V8 engine. That car has been suggested and you can vote for it and find out more by clicking on this link:

Rules

Races will be held each Sunday starting at 17:00 GMT. (During the period of British Summer Time - March to October - meetings will be held one hour earlier 16:00 GMT = 17:00 BST).

The race meeting will last approximately 2 hours. There will be three races per meeting. The first (Historic BSCC) of 15 minutes and the Main Event (Ford Ferrari Wars) will be approximately 25 minutes. These races will feature 4 minutes of practise and a 6 minute qualifying session before each race, with grid order of fastest qualifier first. There will be one race for each championship each Sunday.

To save time, the third race (Caterham Cup) will not have qualifying and the grid order will be based on previous race finish order.

Each race will be on Race Hard Tyres with no driving aids except optional driving line and ABS which most drivers set to 1, edge grip will be real and race starts will have false start check. Penalties strong and damage light, slipstream real, no boost.

Some of us have been racing every Sunday for several years now. All drivers are expected to drive in a considerate, careful and mature manner. All ability levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced.

Drivers will change their car selection after every five meetings as per the car Choice Table.

All Drivers are expected to follow the hosts instructions regarding the race meeting at all times.

The Cars: - No wings or spoilers can be added
Paint should be in age appropriate colours e.g. solid or metallic only, no chrome or polarized finishes.

Wheels should be age appropriate e.g. standard, spoked, American Racing, Torq Thrust or PD Goodyear in standard size - if wheels or colour are inappropriate the host will request that the driver change them before the next round.

Where possible bumpers should be removed in order to enhance the race look (this should be done to the Shelby Cobra).

Bonnets if lightened must be in body paint colour

Where possible racing numbers should be displayed in style A font A - this will enhance the race look and aid with identification.

Any tuning is allowed subject to any PP, minimum weight and maximum power limits.

Photographs
Photographs of the race action are encouraged. Race reports and photographs taken by the official race photographer (IfandOr) will be published in this thread.

Signups
Please sign up by sending a message to Sick_Cylinder via your Playstation 3 or via GTPlanet. There will be 16 regular drivers in the championships.

Absence / Unable to attend races
If you know that you will be unable to attend certain rounds please inform the Host. It may then be possible for a reserve driver to fill your slot on the grid. If you no longer wish to participate in the championship the first reserve driver will fill your grid slot and will drive the same type of car.

Reserve Drivers
If the grid is full you can sign up to be a reserve driver. You will be able to race when a regular driver is absent and the grid therefore has a vacant slot. If a regular driver leaves the championship you will be offered that drivers slot and will become a regular driver using the same type of car as the original regular driver was using (or was scheduled to use).

Questions
If you have questions regarding the races or comments about quality of driving or other problems etc, please raise these with the Host Sick_Cylinder via your Playstation 3 or via the conversation facility on GTPlanet.

It is best to reserve postings on this thread for race photos, race reports, links to good tunes or other helpful tips on cars in the car list.

Room Etiquette / Voice chat
If drivers speak to each other they should use the PSN name even if they know the drivers real name. All conversations should be in English. Please refrain from talking during races or qualifying as some drivers may find it distracting.

Voice chat will be enabled during races. The purpose of the voice chat is to enable the leaders to indicate when they are approaching and about to lap another driver. The horn can also be used by the lead driver when about to lap another driver. No offence should be taken by the use of the horn - in this case it is purely a warning signal. To avoid confusion the horn should not be used at any other time including while stationary on the grid. Some drivers do not have microphones or their spoken English may not be good - this does not matter and they will not be discriminated against - they can use the horn to warn the driver in front that they are about to lap. Use of the horn for any purpose other than that outlined will result in a warning and or penalty.

Voice chat will also enable a driver to indicate if he intends to carry out a pitstop. The procedure will be that at the start of the lap on which he intends to pit, the driver will say his name and that he is pitting at the end of this lap. He will also say that he is about to pit when approaching the pit lane. The driver will also announce when he has left the pits and rejoined the track - while doing so he will endeavour to stay inside the white lines when rejoining.

For example in my case on crossing the start line I would say "Sick pitting on lap ten". On approaching the pits I would say "Sick entering Pits". On rejoining the race I would say "Sick rejoining race". If a driver is about to be lapped, he should hold a steady course and if possible momentarily lift off the throttle so that the faster driver can pass.

Race Room Settings
Start type = Grid start with false start check (this means hold car still with brake until start)
Grid order = Fastest First (this means start in order of practise lap time)
Boost = off
Penalty = Strong (this means avoid crashing or short cutting the track)
Tyre / Fuel depletion = very fast (this means try to avoid drifting round corners)
Grip reduction on track edge = real
Minimum number of pit stops = 1
Require tyre type change = off (this means you can stick with race hard tyres)
Race finish delay = 180 seconds (there will be a wide range of abilities of driver)
Visible damage = off (this prevents spoiling the look of photos)
Mechanical damage = Light (if you have a crash the damage will repair itself)
Slipstream strength = Real
Tyre = Racing Hard
Nitrous = Prohibited
Vehicle Tuning = No Limit (but check BHP and weight limits and PP limits)
Skid recovery force = prohibited
Active steering = prohibited
Active stability management = prohibited
Driving line = prohibited
Traction control = prohibited
ABS = available

PITSTOPS - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
There will be one compulsory pitstop to change tyres in each race.

If you fail to take a pitstop the game will automatically give you a 50 second penalty.

You can take your pitstop on any lap apart from the last lap.

If you take your pitstop on the last lap the host will give you a 30 second penalty (Unfortunately this is necessary due to an error in GT6 which fails to conduct a proper pitstop on the final lap).

No pit stops will be held if the track does not have pit lane (e.g. London) and tyre wear will be slowed from very fast to fast.

Championship points
We will use the MotoGP points system as we have in previous championships as this awards points down to 15th place as follows:

1st = 25
2nd = 20
3rd = 16
4th = 13
5th = 11
6th = 10
7th = 9
8th = 8
9th = 7
10th = 6
11th = 5
12th = 4
13th = 3
14th = 2
15th = 1
16th = 0

There are three championships running simultaneously, therefore it is possible that one driver could win all three championships. In the event of a points tie the champion will be the driver with the greatest number of 1st place finishes - if this is tied, it will be the driver with the greatest number of second place finishes etc. and so on.

Bad internet connections / PS3 Problems
If the Host is disconnected by an internet or PS3 problem, the Deputy Host (IfAndOr) will Host the meeting.

If a driver leaves a race after it has started due to an internet or PS3 problem he or she should send a message to the Host who will award points equivalent to a last place finish in the race.

If a driver has a bad connection such that his or her car is lagging excessively and unpredictably the Host may ask the driver to leave and re-enter the room.

To reduce the risk of bad internet connections all drivers should empty their system cache before the race meeting starts.

Practise - A series of practise races will be held on Sunday 7th September at 17:00 BST - these are not part of the championship, but are an opportunity to check room settings and test cars. After the 15 round championships have been completed another practise / test meeting will be held before the start of the next championship.

Okay, this is looking good. I may be able to race if the time change works for me and if the next WSC is finished by then. I was hoping though that since it was documented that PD improved the handling of some back-heavy cars that the GT40 would be an even more pleasurable car to drive, as I have gotten the hang of it and have loved it to death, but no! Apparently PD decided to mess it up and effectively throw me back to square one! Even though I haven't driven it yet since before the update I know I will have to learn how to drive it all over again! Why PD!? :banghead: :irked:

Try it and let me know your impressions Ryan.

The GT40 road car seems undrivable to me post 1.09 and the GT40 Race Car is drivable, but tricky. I haven't tested the Ford MK4 which I hope is still OK - the 2D, XJ13 and P330 are still great. I guess the changes in camber which came with 1.09 might have affected the GT40.

Our series starts and finishes before the WSC - I checked the times - we don't want a clash of times as it could affect both series.

Yeah it's pretty much impossible for the Gulf GT40 and Cobra Daytona Coupe to compete with the others fairly as they are Group 4 Sports Cars and not Group 6 Prototypes unless you allow tuning, which I strongly oppose because it is the act of adding new parts to classic, which of course is not periodically-correct at all. The same goes for all the rest, but the Camaro should have never been on the original list as none of them were ever contested in the World Sportscar Championship, ever. They were exclusive to Trans-Am and Drag Racing in America. So I suggest either only use the four Group 6 Prototypes, spec them and prohibit extra parts which ruin everything, or instead have an extra class for the Group 4's. If you only use the four Group 6's then allow a maximum of four of the same car. Sound like a plan?

Thanks for all your comments and help Ryan - greatly appreciated. I have made a lot of changes to the championship, some of which will not be universally popular, but hopefully will produce an enjoyable series of race meetings.

In summary, the championships have been shortened to 15 rounds with a car change after every 5 rounds. The Ford Ferrari Wars is now split into 2 categories according to cost / performance. These cars will be raced with tuning set to prohibited i.e. in standard condition, which will save time for racers.

For BSCC the Isuzu Bellett GTR has been dropped and the field reduced to three types of car.

For One Make Series, three cars have been dropped so the series will just feature the Caterham Fireblade.

These championships will finish before Christmas 2014. There will be two test / meet and greet days at the end of December then a new series of 15 round championships will begin in January 2015.

So, the BSCC will follow the same structure of WCR, right? (Championship divided in 2 parts)

The Ford Ferrari Wars will contain two fifteen round championships - one for Category 1 cars and the other running at the same time for the slower Category 2 cars. Each will have a champion after fifteen rounds.

The Historic BSCC championship will have a champion after fifteen rounds.

The One Make Series featuring the Caterham Fireblade will have a champion after fifteen rounds.
