Kimi's "nasty little habit" had nothing to do with him not winning the title. You can thank fine Mercedes engineering for that.

I started the season not a fan of Alonso. He was a reckless, frantic driver who did dumb things on track and endangered people.

However I am ending the season in complete respect of him. I don't know who got to him in the off season or what happened there but Alonso showed up this seaosn as a completely different driver. Over the course of the season he grew even more into on solid (and fast) F1 driver. His ability to craft a race, push when he needed to and lay back when it was called for was amazing.

Alonso really matured as a driver this season and deserves this win. I'm a fan of Kimi but Alsono won this year...he really earned it!!!

Congratulations!

Why did you have to spoil it? :grumpy:

Congrats Alonso! :D

I know, remind you of Senna doesn't it :D. I'm a huge Senna and Alonso fan BTW.

rock.

kensei, you're absolutely right. I've never been a fan of Alonso, but over this year he has earned my respect as a fast and intelligent race driver. His best race, in my mind, was San Marino. That was when he really showed his intelligence and racwe craft. The way he held off the faster Schumacher was incredible.

Although I'll probably never cheer for him over an entire season, he really deserved this title and his consistancy really shined through. It was a rare occasion when we didn't see the Spaniard on the podium, well done Alonso.

Ugh. Damn. The tension is over. ;)

A fantastic season for the Spaniard, I wish him the most congratulations. It's just so romantic. What a year.

I've been a fan of Alonso since 2003. I wish I could congratule him personally :D

Hes a great champ, really really deserved it and im so happy for him, like Fittipoldi said, the championship and record for youngest champ is in safe hands.

Congrats to Alonso and the Renault team for creating a car he could win in
.

I gotta agree there, Imola was an amazing race, it was the first time we saw just how much he had matured...from then on it was golden, Alonso barely put a foot wrong the rest of the season.

Another thing that impressed me was (is) the way he handles the pressures and demands of PR and the press. Saturday at the USGP this year my wife and I got stuck in a crowd that was under the podium where a few drivers were being interviewed by the press and heckled by fans (sign this, sign this!!!). Rubens, Alonso, JPM, Webber were in a circle. Webber looked annoyed and left as soon as he could. JPM didn't look much better but paid his Columbian fans alot of credit. Rubens was shuffled away by Ferrari PR people..but Alonso stayed and gave ever press guy his time AND when that was done stayed and signed just about anything thrust in front of him from the crowd. ALl the time he had a smile on his face and looked as if he really appreciated the fans. In fact he was physically pulled away after about 15mins by his press handler and he looked generall apologetic about it. I could hear him saying "I'm sorry...but thank you!" as he was being pulled away into the confines of the paddock.

A more deserving driver couldn't be found for the title. Alonso earned it and deserves it 100%.

How was it on topic? The topic was, congratuilate Alonso. Not, your (the masses) negative opinion on Alonso's championship.

Well done again, Alonso  (see, how to stay on topic)

lol, yeah! how could he win if he is not the best?

I think some people are confusing "best" with "fastest" driver this season.

Kimi hands down has been the fastest driver of the season.

But...

Alonso has been the best. He has had the speed when needed. He has had the race craft when he didn't (i.e. Imola) and he has had a reliable car that has allowed him to be in position often to capitalize on others (i.e. Kimi/McMerc's) misfortunates. Alonso has driven smart and fast all season.

Being the best requires alot more than pure speed in F1.

Now if you were to ask me who is the better driver RIGHT now. Kimi or Alonso? Even though I am a fan of Kimi I'd have to say thy are about equal. Alonso gets the edge for his race craft. Both have different abilities that balance out.

Kimi can push a car harder and live with a car on the edge better. He can push to the edge lap after lap.

Alonso can push here and there but not string on the edge laps together link Kimi can.

Alonso makes less mistakes than Kimi but when Alonso does make mistakes that are huge and usually take him out. Kimi seems to just push harder and goes faster to make up the difference.

Kimi's race craft isn't as strong as Alonso's. I don't know if he would have managed to do what Alonso did at Imola. Then again I don't know, you never know. Kimi has gone toe to toe with MS a few times in the past.

When Kimi wins it is dominating.

When Alonso wins it is by a nice margin but isn't as dominating. Yes the cars have alot to do with this.

So I'd say they are balance right now pretty well.

Who is the better driver in the long haul? I can't say but it sure looks bright to be a F1 fan for the next few years with the Alonso vs. Kimi fights. I think the two will go down in history equal to Senna vs. Prost, Schumi vs. Hill, Schumi vs Mika....

true...

Congrats to Alonso. Even though I wanted to see Kimi win the championship, Alonso deserved it more. Great driving all season.

When is the trophy presented? Last race?

You are indeed a retard.

1. IF kimi didnt have all those technical problems and juan pablo unconsciously helping him kimi would be leading the title race by now.
2.On the original/classic points sytsem kimi would be ahead on points.

3. You must be pretty dumb to not recognise these facts. Even woman can tell that kimi is the better driver which he has proven day in and day out.

Of course Kimi is dominating when he wins. He pushes every lap to the edge, even when he's going first.

Cause of that he lost Nurburgring's race. Pushing the last laps senseless, made a mistake, wheel vibrations, last lap, boom, Alonso wins.

Anyway, I hope next year McMerc will have a more reliable car (no doubt Renault will be as reliable as this year). Let's see if Mercedes pass the new motor test (as you said, Merc has a lot of do with Mclaren unreliablity, next season will be a motor crash show :dopey: ).

Raikonnen dug his own ditch a few times with lock ups and the such. Yes Alonso suffered in Monaco but he kept it going.

Alonso drove a better season, yes he had a more reliable car, but he wasn't the one pushing it to the edges of reliability so often, which was sensible with the 2 race rule.
