Raikkonen had a fast car and he is naturally a fast driver, but would the best driver risk getting points by not pitting? nope, Kimi did, Alonso was sensible, fast, and made very few mistakes.

Of course Kimi is dominating when he wins. He pushes every lap to the edge, even when he's going first.

Cause of that he lost Nurburgring's race. Pushing the last laps senseless, made a mistake, wheel vibrations, last lap, boom, Alonso wins.

Kimi flatspotted his tire mid race, well before the closing laps. The fact the suspension failed had nothing to do with the McMerc. Any current car would have failed given that flat spot.

...(no doubt Renault will be as reliable as this year).

One can't know that given the new V8 engines coming next season. Also Renault won't have their V8 on track until 2006 (January testing they said) which is about 4-5 months later than all the other teams but BMW (for obvious reasons). That means alot less testing in car which would scare me if I drove a Renault.

Let's see if Mercedes pass the new motor test (as you said, Merc has a lot of do with Mclaren unreliablity, next season will be a motor crash show :dopey: ).

Not sure what this means but I expect McMerc, and everyone else, to have more engines issues next season.

I've been a fan of Alonso since 2003. I wish I could congratule him personally :D

same here. I've bought a hat from the Renault F1 shop signed by Alonso in 2004 with the #7 and #8 on the side. I realized about a week before the Brazil GP, I had a hat signed by a future world champion. oh that was a great feeling. and then after the Brazillian GP, I realized it was signed by the youngest World Champion ever. that was pretty nice too. heh.

rock.

2.On the original/classic points sytsem kimi would be ahead on points.

Wrong.

Old points system:
Alonso-101
Kimi-83

I really wish people would stop using this argument BECAUSE IT'S WRONG!

You are indeed a retard.

1. IF kimi didnt have all those technical problems and juan pablo unconsciously helping him kimi would be leading the title race by now.
2.On the original/classic points sytsem kimi would be ahead on points.

3. You must be pretty dumb to not recognise these facts. Even woman can tell that kimi is the better driver which he has proven day in and day out.

I don't understand your problem. Kimi's car is LEAPS AND BOUNDS faster than any other car on the grid. McLaren should win the constructor's championship based on their pure dominance.

Alonso still being able to win the championship is a testament to his abilities.

It doesn't matter how fast anyone is or was, the fact of the matter is that Alonso is championship winner, and therefore, the best driver of this season.

Who is the better driver in the long haul? I can't say but it sure looks bright to be a F1 fan for the next few years with the Alonso vs. Kimi fights. I think the two will go down in history equal to Senna vs. Prost, Schumi vs. Hill, Schumi vs Mika....
I expect JPM to be in there too, and hopefully MSC next year. It would be good to see the best drivers with good cars so we can see some real competition next season. This year was good, but I have high expectations for 2006.

Actually BMW have tested their V8 on track (Pizzonia was driving) a few months ago.

I'd have to agree, although I've heard the teams argue that these engines will be more reliable than the current V10s because they are being designed for 2 races from the get-go, rather than 'evolving' from 350km engines to 1600km engines.

But, I still think they will be less reliable, I've heard some teams saying that they've had parts breaking in the V8s that have never broke in the V10s. At over 20,000RPM the forces on the engine are much higher, and vibrations are in another world compared to the V10s.

Going to be interesting next year with the first race at Bahrain and then straight to Sepang, if the engines last that double-header then they should be in pretty good shape for the european season.

I owuld like to just add my congratulations to Alonso, he has changed since he first came out on the F1 track and all for the better. He deserved the championship and although I'm a fan of Kimi and McLaren car it has been a good season with some tight racing and I hope for more next year.

Hi,

to tell you the thruth, I am a huge fan of Ferrari and I really like JPM and Kimi drive style. However, Alonso really deserve this title thanks to his reliability, his maturity and the way he was always there to benefit any of the Mclaren boy's mistakes...which obviously were to frequent.

In 2001, I was studying in Bologna and went to the European Minardi F1 day at Misano Adriatico. I had the opportunity to sit in his car, to have a wheel change competition (the quickest won a lap in the 2 seater F1) and I also chat and took a picture with Fernando.

After all that, we saw Alonso doing a couple of flying laps and in comparison with his team-mates, his raw talent was tremendous highlighted in that unstable Minardi.

Since that time, I keep preciously the picture, because now, his talent is shining all over the place.

Yeah, it's kind of like Senna vs. Prost all over again, except there's more sportsmanship this time around, and Senna wasn't much for drublic punkness...er, public drunkness. Hopefully McLaren and Kimi will start off on the right foot for 2006.

But back on topic, it's great to see a World Champion start out from a team such as Minardi, not just gifted a spot with a good team right from the get-go.

Congratulations, Fernando Alonso!

You can say that to some extent but think, who was his manager back then? A certain Flavio Briatore.. It seemed he was destined for Renault eventaully..

Manager isn’t everything. Mark Webber is managed by Flavio – and of course he was offered a position at Renault – but he wanted to go to Williams … so that is where he ended up. The decision, ultimatly, goes down to the driver.

Ohhhh yeah and what a costly mistke that is proving out to be...

Not to smack around Alonso's teammate, but Fisichella followed nearly the same route, also guided by Briatore and still isn't champion.

That is prob because Fisi is not as talented as Alsonso, never has been, never will...

Why are so many people saying Kimi is faster??? He's got a faster car. Alonso did some serious overtaking in Japan with a car that hasn't got such a big edge over the others. Congrats Fernando 👍

Fernando’s fastest lap was only slightly slower than Kimi’s. Renault have new aero additions, what’s to say they haven’t caught up a fair bit? Plus the Renault still has a pretty big gap on it’s competitors.

As well as reliability and drivers that don't try stupid moves.. (JPM)
