Hello all,
Recently I have taken up drifting. I have only 6 days under my belt but I believe I am progressing quite quickly. I must thank Cudaman for all his help with my questions and also the inspiration in watching the gran dorifto series. The challenge with making this video is that all drifts are done with the d-pad on the ps2 controller. I don't have access to a gt force and I can't get used to the analog sticks, just too foreign of a movement. To my surprise though, the drifts come out in a fluid movement not unlike Cudaman, so I'm happy.
Anywho, to the point. I want your opinion on turns and cars...Something that'll not only be pleasing to me but also a video that'll have a little taste for everybody.
Currently, I want to put in these cars, but I'm open for your suggestions.

v12 Vantage
Zonda c12
Nissan 300zx
FC and FD rx-7
MR-2 GTS
MKIV Supra
ZZII
Skyline S-tune
FTO LM edition
Pagani Race
With many others in the works. My question to you, is what cars do you want to see? Whether in this list or not.

I also have many turns mapped out for use. Tracks consist of...
Laguna Seca
Midfield I/II
Apricot Hill
Gran Valley I/II
Complex String
Tokyo 246 I/II
Deep Forest
Trial Mountain

Again I am open to your suggestions and hope to get as much feed back as possible!
Thanks everyone,
Daniel

to add one more degree of difficulty to this, I'd like to see you set up an ilink race, and have one car following the other whilst it's drifting a few corners. Then edit the view from the follower into the movie.

With some precise driving in the following car, you could shoot from many angles. If possible, you can be the leading car, and in the replay, viewing out the rear. I could see a 3rd person view of a RUF and, slightly behind it, an RX-7 drifting the corner.

Of course, that just the creative side of me.

Good luck,

AO

Two classic drifters are the Altezza and the Trueno... both fairly easy to wag controllably. I've never driven the car in GT3 but you may want to try the BMW, too.

And I agree with AO that the "follow cam" view would look great.

drift the GT40 Race Car - it's easier than you think, and it really looks good on Laguna Seca.

That sounds like an excellent idea...If only I could pull it off :( No one around me shares the same passion in gran turismo as I do and there aren't any drifters around here, sadly.

Im a drifter but I think driving a clean smooth line with no drifting is best. Drifting is alot more fun though so I can see why you are such a fanatic.

Doesn't need to be a drifter...just someone who'd liek to lend a hand, and stay behind of ahead of you.

and you just need his replay...

Anyways, it's another idea to keep you going.

I was thinking about a BMW or Altezza...Both have a classy, simplistic look to them and have looked great swinging around turns in earlier videos. The reason I decided not to go for the Trueno is because that's the drift car. It's proven itself as the "holy grail" of driftcars, quoted from a magazine. So I wanted to try something different, like the Pagani's...

About the Gt-40 race. I never even thought about it, but good idea!

The hard part about all this is I have so many concepts and ideas...some singular and others i-linked, which makes me upset that I can't do it. I'm going to have so much footages of great cars and turns I won't know how to condense into one great video.

There's just something about that arc of the turn and how the car floats around it followed by the smoke from the tires. I think it's the coolest thing on replays.

I cant argue that, and it feels so good when you get it just right, doesnt it??
Absolutely...Hell, I share with the whole family when I get a good drift going! Ha...

Yea drifting is great fun, and it's nice to go into as corner on full throttle, sway it wide, brake hard turn it in sarp and :burnout: watch the back end fly....:gcar:

It's also a great feeling to be on the edge of spinning :spin: and saving the car? :smilewink

All right guys, help me out. Granted I'm a drifting rookie with about 8 days under my belt, I still have a good handle on this technique and can drift a great deal of turns. I've run into a problem though...Hairpin...Like the ones gracing Grand Valley, Seattle, Complex String, etc...I can't seem to get the line down, no matter what in some part of the turn I slide off course. Any help would be appreciated.

Ive been rifting (as I call it because I like changing names of things so they sound stupid) for a while on GT3 and GTC. You could do the follow cam on the standard 2 player mode. Most cars with allot of torque are good for drifting. Ive been using a near stock treuno with simulation tyres and an S13 2000cc silvia. Ave a look at meh GTC drifteh lappes!

Nice vids man!

Love the look of some of those concepts...I saw the beginning of your run at tokyo and I was like "If he nails that super long sweeping 180, I'm going to kill him." I want to land that turn so bad, I can get about 3/5 the way through it, the drift ends, and I can drift out the last part of it...

Are you talking about the first corner, I have no idea?

Here are 2 more rifting videos for GTC. I have some nice GT3 drifts but I havent put them on. One day ill make a big music video like cudaman as well, its just im too lazy at the moment, with work and all.

The long sweeping 180 at Tokyo...at the top left of the map. But to my avail you didn't do it so :p It seems the jag and that cadillac had sim tires but the m12 had more of a powerslide set up, am I wrong?

GTC doesnt have sim tyres, I just have to make do with Hards on the rear (there is no tyre wear so they are basically cold tyres) and meds on the front. The W12 is quite crappy when driving normally so its basically a case of me pushing too hard and having the car set up with a stiff rear end.

GT3 is more fun to pull off big tyre smokin drifts though.

No sim tyres? Wow, that blows lol. If you want some real fun take a Pagani Race Car on Sims and take 'er to complex string. Once mastered, she's a beauty on replays and to my surprise, much easier to control than I expected...Seeing that she has 678hp.

i'm just wonderin idiot/tuscan, how did u get the replay on ur comp? Sharkport?
I'm wonderin if there is any other way to record the vid on ur comp without using a cam or sharkport....

I use a TV card in my pc and I hook the PS2 up to the TV card and voila. PS2 recordings. Nice to see that you recognise me even after my name change. ^_^

I have a great Hachiroku drift video at trial mountain I want to put up but Im having trouble uploading.

BTW tingboy you can make yer custom avatar now, you got over 200 posts.

I wanna see more anime here at GTplanet.net
Unless ya want me to make you one?

Some very nice drifting there Race, I suggest trying the Skyline concept (road). On the set of corners before the last hairpin on Autumn Ring reverse the angle that you can get the car are unbelievable and this is without any extra setting up!

As for your list of cars Midus, I think they will all be driftable although some will need setting up. A few of those will drift surprisingly well however with just an oil change and some sim tyres. I had the 328ci at some surprising angles round midfield after adding only tyres and oil. Your choice of tracks sounds good, all have some really good corners for drifting.I would love to see you nail the downhill s bend going into the tight hairpin on midfield, when you keep it totally sideways all the way it looks awesome!

Just wondering though, how many of you use the handbrake to initiate or keep drifts going. It's not something I use unless I am drifting FWD and wondered what you thought of it's use. Also, how many of you are fans of initial D?

I like initial D but I only have like 6 episodes. Mind you im addicted to the crazy eurobeat soundtrack.

Although I agree with you about all you need is sim tyres to drift in FR and maybe even MR cars. I made my FF FTO GP R drift by using superhard front tyres and sim rear tyres. Then I tweaked the suspension with hard rear springs and the toe and camber set up to oversteer, same with the brake bias. It can drift but you have to use the handbrake to get it started, but I made some nice drifts with it on the complex string

Actually I tell a lie I like to use custom suspension, brakes, weight reduction and all transmission parts depending on the car.

I like having adjustabilty as well, I did have a whole load of nice drift cars but Mr Postman lost my memory card (GT3 @ 99.9% and about 13000km) when it from home to my Uni address. Thankfully I lent my memory card to a friend to copy before it was lost so I am now back to 96% although most of the drifters have gone :( I am currently in the process of buying and setting up the cars I had (S13, FC, FD, Chaser, Supra etc). I like equally drifting standard cars though as I find there is more emphasis on driving skill rather than setup skill. In terms of front wheel drive I have only dabbled, prefering RWD as you can then steer a car on the throttle.

As for Initial D, do you get it of Kazaa? I had a mate download all but a few episodes of the first series and also the battle stage when he was in uni. Unfortunatly it got me totally hooked, I therefore spent £55 on ebay getting all Initial D on DVD, 10 discs in all. Should be arriving from Singapore soon!

I can get all the initial D episodes from someones ftp. (he used to be a big member of this forum Mista-something)

I love having the feeling of pulling off a good drift with good throttle controll and then watching it on the replay.

Although I must admit the drifts do look better with my configured cars than my stock ones.
