Controller for GT PSP: Photoshop Comp

I like GT PSP, but D-Padding is out of question. The existing analog knob doesn't satisfy me either.

Seeing on techeblog.com that this here

is possible (and even quite easy), I realize I want a controller specifically to play GT on PSP.

Back in the PSX & GT 2 days i had two of these here
UltraRacer_PSX.jpg

and I thought they went very well with GT 2.

So imagine a tiny steering wheel plus two analog buttons or mini-pedals especially for GT PSP.
  • eventually attaches to the PSP?
  • eventually features force feedback?
  • wheel could eventually be a 1:10 car wheel as in some RC controllers?
  • special editions could have the rim of a specific car in game?

Would you buy something like that? What do you think it should look like? What features should it have? Photoshop visualizations welcome.
Here one very ugly first try:

I think the Jogcon that was bundled with R4 was great.

Was the first force feedback wheel controller.

Some simple changes would be:
*Some kind of foam grip for the wheel as the ultra racer has
*Analogue triggers and analogue buttons throughout the controller.

That would be a great controller for any racing game in my opinion be it for psp or ps3.

But the PSP is portable and is designed to be used on the go. How can you hold a controller and the PSP at the same time? If you're in your house and want to play GT using a controller, play GT4.

That's why I suggested it could be attached to the PSP.

Alright, to get the ball rolling and to show what I mean I made a first try in just 10 minutes (that's why it came out so UGLY):

The JogCon made me think of the neGcon, which actually looks more comfortable to use than the former. But oh well, haven´t played either of those ;)

If the PSP had a second slot like the DS, something like this would be neat:
Arkanoid DS controller
I think this device is a good compromise between authentic control and portability. Turn that paddle into a self-centering wheel knob, built it into some sort of grip for the PSP so snap in, that would be my ideal analog control :sly:

However, being pretty much a racing sim newbie as well as a handheld fanboy (what can I say, I love gaming in bed, and I grew up on the Gameboys rather than the consoles) I will play this game with the dpad. I really hate the analog nub, it´s just way to flimsy and awkward to use. I know that digital input and racing simulation doesn´t really mix, but I´m sure PD tried their best to make playing with the dpad as precise as possible.

I think Yamauchi said that the dpad will be the "main" way of playing the game, hinting to the first GT being dpad only as well. Again, it probably helps that I´m not too much of a purist when it comes to that and having played mostly arcade 2D shooters for the last couple of years I´m just totally used to digital control. I think it´s up to the individual to decide whether or not these sacrifices will ruin the game for them or not, but when you play games on a handheld you already have to deal with certain limitations (processing power, resolution etc), so I myself will just roll with that (and not compare it to the console games, which obviously are in a league of their own). I´m just glad this game comes out and am sure PD will make this game as playable as possible :)

I respect your opinion.

Also, if somebody would like to post a haiku about the beauty of d-padding, please feel free to do so :sly:

To J-Pap: I don't remember ever seeing this Jogcon thing before in my life. Not bad.

Beatiful. I feel very moved.

Alright, look at this horrible bastard between a PSP and a Jogcon.
Does no one feel the need to do this better? Photoshop masters, stop hiding. Come on out.

here's what you need:

edit: I rushed this because I thought someone else might do it first. That's supposed to be duct tape holding it on, and I don't really know how big a psp is compared to a g25.

edit 2: or how about an rc controller?

I was going to photoshop a psp to this controller, then realized it was part of an article showing how to actually make it into a usb controller. :)

edit: another really bad, rushed photoshop job:
The sixaxis is wireless, so all the psp needs is bluetooth and a bracket like this.

you could just put a bracket/spindle/thing on the back to wrap the wire around.

Yippieh yay yeah! :D

Finally some serious PSD approaches. Duct tape. Yummie yummie.
Looks quite practical to me. Just take a generator with you to feed
the G25, and you're set.

Naw, but the pistol controller pic left a nagging idea in the back of my head … have to start up Photoshop.
