Absolute quality. I posted the wall/gate bit earlier this year but had not seen all of the full clip.

This ties in with the flogging a dead horse thread as if rallying was still like this more people would want to watch it (IMO). Ari clearly has to take his balls home in a wheelbarrow.

How the co driver kept it together enough to say "dear god" and not "**** ** we're going to ******* die" I'll never know.

That would be the understated British attitude; "stiff upper lip" and all that.

"Oh.......dear god" for the British equates to "Holy **** we're gonna die!" for anyone else.

I've seen that vid before, and two things still amaze me. Firstly, why anyone would want to be a co-driver; and second, just how fast Ari keeps going with the flat left-front tyre.

It was a good save.

Nahhh!! It couldn't of been a flat, i think it was a puncture. When someone gets a flat now without a spare tyre, they just limp to the end of the stage and also i think the car would be unbalanced with a flat i.e the car would tilt toward the front left and the rear right side of the car would lift. No way could he drive like that no matter how great a driver he was.

This is more spectacular than the current WRC. I bet Schumacher is nothing compared to this driver.
That co-pilot must have nerves of steal.

 You cant say that bout Shumi lol!!! He's a legend in his own right . You cant compare them. If you put Ari Vatanen in an F1 car he would probably have too much balls for his own good he'd be like ''yea, i can take this hairpin @90....oops no i cant'' :cut to seen of him in a tyre wall:

I wouldn't be so sure. Colin McRae tried Martin Brundles Jordan and got within a second or so of him a few years ago. I know Senna drove a few rally cars for a magazine in the late 80s/early 90s so it's not too daft a comment.

I don't quite know how you're defining "flat" vs "puncture". To me, they are one and the same. But perhaps you're defining "puncture" as a slow leak that eventually causes the tyre to go "flat". In any case...

Have a look at how the car behaves after Ari touches the wall with the front left. The tyre goes flat after being punctured (or more likely the wheel rim was bent by the impact, causing the tyre to deflate).

The co-driver even mentions it, and you can see how much trouble Ari has turning right after that point. But he's still travelling "flat-out". ;)
