Gronholm - with ice in his veins. He won two consecutive WRC Championships in the 90s, yeah? In a silver Peugot 206? That guy was sick!!

Yes the years were 2000 and 2002. Then again he had good fighting with Sebastian Loeb. His biggest problem was that he made mistakes too often even though he vas really really fast.

That was a couple of years after Loeb decided to compete in the whole calendar and not just the tarmac events. He's a ridiculous driver. Loeb, I mean...

I haven't order Assetto Corsta yet because I don't want to play it alone. Maybe I've done it too much in the past.

As inspired by Finnish rally championships that was held close to my home I made a weekend last rally league with 13 stages. One with rwd cars and another with awd cars. Im thrilled and will start first stages later today.

I was uncertain if I may advertise it here so I did not. But if anyone of you would like to participate please let me know and I will give you link to this rally.
I would give your events a go if I get time. I'm terrible with rear wheel drive so it would be good practice 👍:p:lol:

Although some of the modern day drivers are great -Jari-Matti Latvala is a favourite of mine but always seems to have bad luck - I don't think you can beat the likes of Ari Vatanen,Stig Blomqvist and Hannu Mikola to name a few. The group B years where insane in rallying! I will never forget the sight of the Lancia Delta S4 in the hands of Henri Toivonen going through the woods of Yorkshire with all brake discs and two turbos glowing cherry red and oh what a sound!

~sigh~ I missed all of that cool stuff, although I've read all about it. In Canada, you can watch hockey in July and August. Re-runs of old classic games from the 70s. I'll admit, I even watch a few (guilty pleasures)...but finding rally to watch before the internet just wasn't possible. French Canadians are very much like the rednecks from West Virginia. They like NASCAR or the Canadian Tire Series, which is the same but not. Turning left...a lot.
The first time I ever saw a rally, was Colin McRae FLYING through the trees in Wales. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was instant death around every corner and he just didn't seem to care. He drove like he was tempting the devil.
What's that dude's name...drove a red & white Mitzubishi EVO Lancer(sp.?). Makkinen maybe? Almost died in Corsica...anyway, that was the era where I was introduced.

Carlos sainz is probably one of my favorites. I always liked Hirvonen, the closest to beating Loeb. I have a lot of respect for Jari-Matti Latvala, because if you look at him in the car he looks calm, like he's going on a Sunday drive, bit on the outside he's absolutely tearing it up

Yes he was Tommi Mäkinen, another Finnish legend. Four times World Champion. Actually returning to rally next year as a leader of Toytota rally team!

But you guys need to wait this guy breaking in, Kalle Rovanperä, the son of Finnish rally driver Harri Rovanperä. He is 16, but he is a beast on wheels already. He just ain't old enough to drive with pros yet.

Yup, that's the guy I'm talking about...and @V0RT3X reminded me about Carlos Sainz...he was fun to watch too...

That's ironic...I just posted a video of him driving a Finland stage on the previous page. Freakin' amazing if you ask me.

I got into rally in the 2012 season. I knew what it was and what it was all about, but it wasn't until my friend introduced me to it that I got interested. I had heard of Mikko Hirvonen before and he was driving for Citroen that year so he was always the one I rooted for.

Exterior Cams vs Interior Cams:

We were chatting about this a couple days ago. I use cockpit cam in DiRT Rally. After seeing @Eyeseeh50 's video in hood (bonnet) cam I decided to try it out. I was immediately 10s slower on short stages and 25s slower on long stages. So I went back immediately to cockpit. I'm not one of those "if you don't race in cockpit cam you are a poseur" guys. TBH, DR is the first game I have felt 100% comfortable in cockpit cam in ALL the vehicles. I dunno what it is about bonnet cam in DR, maybe I just get too distracted from the open FOV. I feel that in cockpit cam I am concentrating more on the road. One thing I do like about bonnet cam is that it's exhilarating; the scenery just seems to fly by so fast!

In PCars the bonnet cam is my go-to cam. I don't feel comfortable with the others. Just the opposite of DR.

BTW as long as you're on the subject of WRC drivers... Go Petter Solberg!

It would have been 1980 when I first got into rallying as a young man fresh out of school. TV coverage was quite good then. A year later and I got my first car and was able to go spectate on local rallies. This was then combined with my passion for photography and a few years later I was regularly selling photos to a magazine called Rally Sport. I had a spell away from home in the late 80s doing an agricultural exchange to South West Australia and Montana in the USA. On return I picked up where I left off but on one event I got to talking to a guy the same age as me who was building his first rally car. He needed a navigator and I ended up in the role.
That first event is seared in my mind as half way through the first stage Colin handed me the gear lever and said "here try and find a gear", it didn't end well!
Spent about 8 years navigating for him in his MK2 Escort. I then started navigating for another guy, Gordon, in a Vauxhall Nova doing tarmac rallies with some success. I was Scottish tarmac champion navigator for two years in my class. By the mid 2000s it was just getting too expensive for me and gave it up to build my own car and did autocross for three years. It this point I was £10,000 in debit so it all came to an end. I love motorsports but it's just too expensive. So now I get my thrills with the ps4.

Just finished first 4 stages of the RWD rally and it appears that it's not my piece of candy... I just don't trust the car at all and end up driving waaaay too slow.

I made a mess of them both :irked::indiff::yuck::lol:

The idea was to make it as close to real rally race as possible with multiple stages and super special stage to start with. And the time is so limited because it's more fun when the results change constantly. I'll drive stages 5-9 today and the rest tomorrow.

I'm using cockpit view, but I have to say, Dirt Rally is the first game I'm using this view. In other games I have been using bonnet or bumper view.

I started attending rally's as long as I can reminder. My dad is a rally fan too, so I went seeing rally's with him as a child, must have been around '91-'92. When I got my car licence in 2003, me and some friends started visiting more and more rally's. We were doing around 30 rally's/year. We visited the WRC Germany in 2008 & 2015, the Barum rally in The Czech Republic in 2009, WRC Finland in 2014 and in October we've got a trip planned to the WRC Catalunya.

Oh, and I'm a Freddy Loix fan :p

1st stage report, I did not beat the stage time....
Half way, everything is going wrong, all the repair time is going to my radiator as its at 0%, but hey might as well make the car look fixed because there's no way I'm bringing it back.
Business as usual, trying to make up time means I actually lose time.
Made it to the power stage...... rear left popped over a jump, still carried on as I don't mind a bit of slip, but 1/4 in the engine decided life wasn't worth living anymore.

Do you guys have any opinions about car classes in this game? Which classes/cars do you think are pretty compatible with each other? I ran this "weekend rally" and had 70s and 80s RWDs in the same rally. BMW appears to be the most used car in this. I forgot to put Stratos (I actually started to love this car) and Opel Manta there as they are pretty close to the others power wise. Lancia 037 I believe is too powerful to compete with other RWD cars.

As 2010 class it appears that most common car to use is either Polo or Fiesta. Are late 2000's anything to compare with these cars?

2000's I believe (not tested that class too much) that 2007 focus has edge over the rest of this class. Am I wrong? For me I like the most 2001 Focus.

Then the classes I have drove the least.. Group A and R4, are these compatible with each other? I think Lancer has the edge over Subaru in R4 class so it is actually the "only" choice to make.

B-Group is something I love in this game. There is wide selection of cars, and for me none of them is the best. You can choose which ever you prefer and have good competition with it.

Haven't drive with kitcar class at all. FWD is not for me, so 60's have also been mostly unused for me..

I just choose the car I want to drive the most and enjoy driving it (if I'm not wrecking it) until next event I have to change car 👍 if I use a 60's mini against a manta I don't really care about leaders and look at where I am compared to the other mini drivers
