At least we'll be getting some compensation. I don't really mind, tbh. But I wonder what free stuff we'll be getting :dopey:

I'm not the least bit interested in "compensation".

What is the definition of "shortly" though? It's not the same as my definition because I just tried logging on and it didn't work.

Looks like everyone will be getting a month of PS+ as well as some extra stuff they haven't announced yet. Honestly I don't feel like PSN users really deserve "compensation" (this is coming from a PS+ subscriber, mind you) and I can already see the waves of complaints coming in because people want something else. No matter what Sony does people are still going to complain.

I'm just happy PSN will be up and running soon, I need to buy the Shift 2 "Legends" DLC. 👍

Anything "free" sounds awesome to me. I'm definitely taking advantage of it. There's always stuff I wouldn't mind having, like HDD games or nifty dynamic themes. Hopefully the complaints will be less severe with the muffins of forgiveness Sony decided to bake up for all PSN users.

See you all online!

Free PSN+? This is a very clever move by Sony, it makes all the people feel like they are being compensated while bringing in even more new subscribers once the month is over.
I for one will probably take advantage of this and then just leave it once it expires as I do not use my PS3 enough at all to warrant it. The only problem I see here is that Sony is giving access to the thousands of hackers around the world who are participating in things like Jailbreak etc. This gives more people a chance to find out how it works and possibly an opportunity how to hack its expiry or how to get it free etc etc.

The stuff you get for free, will you still be able to use it once the month is over?

Yes I think so. (Celebrate good times COME ON!)

That is incorrect. For Plus subscriptions, if you get a game completely free, you don't get to keep it after your subscription expires. However, if you get a game at a discounted price you get to keep it after your subscription expires.

In other words, if you get it free, you don't get to keep it. If you pay for it (even discounted price) you get to keep it.

What about backing up game saves to the servers? Will you be able to access them after it expires?

As long as I can get the legends DLC I'm gonna be chuffed! Not too fussed about getting compensation, if I don't get cleaned out by identity theft that will do for me!

Anything they fancy giving away for free will do, can never understand this "I deserve this or that compensation" that will undoubtedly appear.

Well I've £25 to blow, I want to thrash some people on Metal Gear Online with Old Snake.

I will always be loyal to sony for things like this.
Sure they were slow telling us but people who haven't even been effected by the card stealing will get compensation despite psn being a free service.

I was just thinking exactly the same thing, this is very clever marketing on the part of Sony. It's also basic marketing 101, offer something as a "free trial" in the hope (or expectation almost) that the consumer will like the product enough to continue paying after the trial period is over.

With most people crying for compensation, free PSN+ is the most obvious option to Sony, customer is happy recieving something for nothing, it's not going to cost Sony much with regards to initial outlay and it opens the doors to extra subscriptions.

Even if just 1% of PSN users continue their subscription after the free month of +, that's an extra 77,000 monthly subscriptions in Sony's pockets.

I'm not interested in free PSN+, if I liked what + had to offer I'd already be signed up, but I can imagine it appealing to a lot more than 1% of PSN users.
I don't know why Sony didn't think of offering a free trial period when + first kicked off, or maybe they did and I missed it.

But what if....You are not on the same PS3 system that your account was set up on and your e-mail has changed too? How will you reset your password then? I am on my second PS3. The first went down due to the design flaw (solder melting off of the cpu/gpu pins. Also I've changed ISP/e-mail since my account was setup on the first system. Whats your fix for that Sony?

Free PSN+ I think that's their solution for everything at the moment
