I tried a couple races on Tokyo, the DR discrimination is strong.

That variant is not my strong suit, only 13 races on it, don't really like it. So starting from the back to get a feel for the race I have 2 B/S drivers behind me. Admittedly I was conservative in my braking for the first turn that requires brakes, yet while the car behind me was plenty far away he didn't adjust at all and simply ran into my back. The extra speed made me touch the outside wall, he stayed on the track, I got 4 sec penalty and SR Down

Oh well attempt nr 2. I'm behind a B/S driver, 0.3 sec distance, not enough. He brakes a lot earlier than me even. I bump him, I get 5 sec penalty for exactly the same thing, except reversed. Wth.

Race 3. A B/S driver grinds me into the wall while passing. The penalty system picks up on it! He gets 1 sec penalty.... Pissed off he got a penalty he starts blocking me, brake checking, tapping the wall. He gets nothing, I get 5 sec and SR Down (just checked the replay) and while trying to avoid him I hit the wall for another 5 sec, meanwhile he bumps off the wall much harder and gets nothing.

I don't mind strict penalties yet this discrimination on DR doesn't fly with me. I'm heading back to DR.B.

And again, get rammed into the pillar at the end of the penalty zone by a car trying to dodge the ghosts. The B/S driver gets 1 sec while I'm stopped dead. Next penalty zone a B/S driver rams me from behind while I have to slow down for a blockade of ghosts and I get a 1 sec penalty for getting bumped into the wall.

Anyway back to DR.B now, let's see the difference.

Yep, instant difference. Got bump passed into the wall again, yet this time the B/S drivers got 2 and 3 sec penalties instead of one or nothing or me getting the penalty. That penalty zone is the danger zone though, dodge those ghosts and pray they don't drive side by side.

I belong in DR.B anyway on this track, 1:22 laps, while people are posting 1:18 :O

I’ve got the Honda down to a 1:11.8 so far, I lost at least 2 tenths in the final corner though according to my next couple of laps, but it’s only Monday so it’s a good start. Good for #9 in NA for a few minutes, only #4 on my friends list though.

Great Laps @Mistah_MCA and @QC YALUM

You have some fast friends there! Hopefully, this week, I'll be one of them. :D Tokyo is usually good to me, and GR2 is always fun. Maybe I learned something at Suzuka in the SF19.

Did two races. First had my real life buddy
That's weird. I can't say that I know anyone irl that has any interest in online racing.

Not at all lol always nice to see a name i know and can trust. I just seem to mess up most of the time when i am againts someone i know.
I'm always overly careful when following a GTP friend on the track. Likewise, I'm completely comfortable when they're following me. My only worry is trying not to look like a loser in front of someone who knows me. But it does happen.

Well done, I can't imagine to drive a 1:17, but sure for now, my qualifying time is my optimum now. Just 1:19,141, but faster than before. Hope to beat the 19 this week

Well earlier today it took me way longer than it should have done to break into the 1'46s at Suzuka. Then later on my GTP account I tried to race from the back a couple of times and that didn't go well either, far too many unpredictable or just down right dirty drivers, how I wish the Gr2 cars had the "overtake" button as well. Hard to know what sort of times you need in race too, what with all that extra fuel you don't need. :indiff:

At least the rest of the week has to be better than today. :dopey:

It's Monday, to be expected. An overtake button won't help as it will be as much used as a block button. 4 out of 5 times using the overtake button to overtake in the SF19 resulted in a boost drag race to the next corner and then hope they don't take you out with them

I’ve definitely acquired some speedy friends over the past few months, when I set my 11.3, I was #3 in NA, yet I was still only #3 on my friends list.

I’ll probably be out on Suzuka tonight, I hope to see you out there!

Sometimes, however if you can get a better exit and then get on the button quickly enough they only use it when they notice you are closing fast and by then it was too late as I was going way quicker. Ok this fair burned through the overtake button and didn't always work but it was better than the bashing I took today. The grid start helped a little too of course due to the chaos, the field is so spread out with this rolling start and not enough cars just fall off the track. :sly:

Daaaamn, did not get that TT under 28 last week. :D

Now with the 4C. nice litle car. Race B qualy time 1:17.823. optimum was something like .4xx
Not really eager to race in that tube shaped track thou...

The BIGGEST question for the PD. Why does the GR4 car with the RH tyres have more grip than GR2 on RM tyres????
Pleeeeze answer this to me.. Cant get the race C qualy under 1:50.000. Just too friggging slippery.

Ah, finally got to finish my first race on Tokyo, not timed out. My lap times are down to 1:21 now I don't have to be paranoid anymore that any tap from behind means penalty zone stoppage.

Although beware, and the schools aren't even out yet.

It's Suzuka. That track is always slippery.

Sometimes it worked, yet most of the time as soon as they suspected a better corner exit that boost light at the back came on. Plus on the straights, even starting a bit late left enough time for the other car to keep a nose next to you or put it back next to you after you pass with the combined draft.

However stick behind them long enough to wear out their boost while using their draft to keep up and eventually they will run out!

@sdi_03 You've got to drive faster and maybe more recklessly, going slow in GT Sport just gives less grip or it certainly seems like it anyway, when I'm slowed down by slower drivers it feels like ice driving sometimes yet going seconds a lap faster doesn't feel too bad, well until you crash.:dopey::lol:

Especially in the high downforce cars! :)

I have tryed that, it ends off track always. Always leads to understeering off the track. :D

You think that doesn't happen to me, especially at this track. Eventually you get better at not crashing and go faster too, I'm still a way from where I need to be though consistency wise, it takes a lot of work.

Massive respect to the guys under 1'46.5 and they seem to do it with ease too.

I got timed out in that race due to barely grazing a wall after the 2nd to last tunnel, giving a 5 second penalty, as I was recovering the driver who finished 10th decided to use me to get around the corner; hello railing and an extra 2 seconds to add.

And again, taps from behind and being used a guide to go around corners gives me a red S at the end.

2nd race was much better and cleaner. Started 11th, finished 5th with a blue S and back to 99SR.

This is definitely a thing, faster and smoother is the way to go, spoon is a prime example, mess part one up and then try get on the power as you would normally but at the lower speed, its oversteer city and you need either a dose of opposite lock or an early shift to 4th gear. Probably due to downforce and the rolling speed of the wheels being already higher.

1:36.420 for me at suzuka, optimum is a 36.1xx so plenty to come off tomorrow.

That is exactly what happens, i try to hard to give enough space and/or to not look like a clown, and usually end up making a stupid mistake because of it.

Now to go off topic a bit....

I consider myself very fortunate to have a good number of life long friendships. This guy i have been friends with for over 30 years, grew up a few blocks from eachother. He has always been my one "car guy" friend who i could go on for hours about any kind of car while our other friends looked at us like we were crazy. That extented to video games where we were the only two who even played racing games let alone care to "master" them, gran turismo changed both our worlds. Over the last 20+ years i couldn't count the amount of times we sat ona couch together, running time trials, passing the controller back and forth when you beat the ghost. Probably why after all these years we are so close in lap times and dare i say skill in gt sport. We are lucky enough to also get into races together 9 out of 10 if we are both on, possibly cuse we still live fairly close. I have a few other friends who do play racing games and gt sport, but they wont even try online...

I really feel like having such a close real life friend who plays puts this game on another level. Not sure many are as fortunate as i am that way though.

I did some qualifying for Race C. Starting with the Xanavi, I ended with a 1:49.6 after several laps. Next was the GT-R and I hit the 48s with a 1:48.9. I'm not sure I can do much better. I may try the others but it looks like the GT-R will remain supreme here.

This week’s races look pretty fun, ngl. Probably gonna avoid Race B, though, if only because I’ve done it before and it’s just alright, nothing too great. But A and C look like they could be fun, especially with the idea of taking those high-downforce Gr.2 cars around Suzuka’s corners. And I don’t think I’ve driven the S660 much either, since its release, so I’m looking forward to trying it with the provided settings.
I agree with the quote above regarding race B. I too had abandoned it because I no longer have the mentality and motivation to do so. In fact, in Sport Mode, I'm officially through with Central Outer Loop no matter what!

Eh, I'm OK with Central when it's with something with more modest power. Can be a bit fun sometimes, y'know?

Well, still dont like suzuki. Got my time under 1:50. Mot much but anyvay. 1:49.405. I tryed to be recless and drive faster. Yep, like I said, HOLY UNDERSTEER BATMAN :lol::lol:

I did notice one thing tho, Im steering too litle at some points, Is the steering difrent in gr2 cars? Like more input is needed to get certain steering angle?

I shaved another 4 tenths off my Race C time in the GTR, I think I’m finally starting to get somewhere with this car, with just the right amount of throttle at just the right time it actually drives really well, it feels crazy diving into T1 at these speeds, but the car can do it lol. Optimal is 47.9, that’s now the main goal for the the week, Sub 48. :)

I tried a Race at Suzuka in the Nissan, started 20th. I made a bad tire choice to start, mediums, they wear out quickly. Everyone but a handfull of guys had them on though, leader/winner was on Hards, I switched on lap 5 but it was to late by then, I had already spun out twice. Next race will be no stop on hard tires. :)

What brake balance are you guys using for race A?

I used -1 for Race A.

Edit: Nuts, I accidentally Qualified for C on my Alt account, boo, I thought I had switched over. Guess I’m going for it now lol.

That's interesting, I thought a one stop on Mediums was more optimal last time we had this combo. Maybe PD increased the multiplier for tyre wear this time.

Either way, I'm glad I saw your post, I planned to race on Ms.
