Is this an AMA with @TRL LIGHTNING ? :D

I'd like to ask the same question, but more in general. I'm usually 1-2 seconds behind the top people, so I was wondering if you have any pointers to try to squeeze out that last second.

In that case i would watch the lap times from the top guys and analyze it. Like their braking, racing line, acceleration, turning, when and how much they shift down and when they shift up. After analyzing that i would try to practice with that knowledge. Of course you need to be patient and have the motivation for that. But that is how i would explain it ^^

I am bad at teaching / explaining but i will give it a try ^^`. With the gr3 it's important to know how each car behaves in general like does it tend to oversteer / understeer, when i shift down early does the rear then slip off suddenly or not, braking, acceleration, turning, etc. With the fia settings like with tyre wear and fuel consumption it's important to try and drive as smooth as possible on the first couple of laps so you have better tyres towards the end of the race if it's a 0 stop race.
When i mentioned about the braking the brake balance also takes an important role as to save tyres. If you have a MR car then it's better to put the brake balance more to the front. With the FR cars it depends.

Great info, Thank you very much!

Someone posted this clip on Reddit. I've been doing this online racing thing for a long time, and never seen a punt as badass as this one! 👍 This is so good.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Hahaha 10 points all round for that one!!!

I still don't get it this week. Can't handle the 930 at all. Tried race B but the first chicane is where I am missing something, even following others. Passed lots of cars to get to 6th, ended up getting the train run on me last lap as I had trouble on the chicane and 4 behind me all pushed through. Doing better at Suzuka despite only racing others once after ther first lap. Guess it's just a down week. Screw the DR, just needing the laps to keep getting faster, or bail into campaign to practice shifting and finally make the plunge to manual. Shifted to learning triggers and analog sticks when I bought this game, seems like it is a constant re-learning.

And the rubbing and crashing at Yamigawa was horrible. Second race I got between two aussies trash talking each other before the race, so yeah, bye bye field, I'll do my laps at the back. Kept clean SR for getting stuck out the back after the accident but still over lapping at the back this week. I have had top 1000 asia qualy times last 2 weeks and have only seen front half of grid at start 4 times in about 30 races. Uggggh. Anyone else hate it when that reality check creeps back in?

"A wild @Pigems has been spotted in his natural habitat. He burrows himself in the sand as a form of camouflage, to hide himself from his prey.

... what's this? A pack of prey appear to be racing each other! This pack of prey love to race each other to win the love and approval from their master.

The Pigems readies his attack... He springs into action! He jumps and catches a prey! The rest of the pack notice him and run away, while our hungry friend here feasts upon his catch of the day."

Sven, thanks for the information. That really helps to put the connection issues into perspective.

I think I understand it a little better, now. Allow me to test my newfound comprehension. This is a picture I took from a replay of a race I did a long time ago (Challenger/Big Willow).

This incident happened because one car was skipping and jittering around, then in an instant shot forward about 50 meters and smashed into a group of cars (impact looked like 300 mph). So if I am understanding correctly, his input data was arriving at the server slowly, and the game was trying to predict where he was, and it was wrong. But when the game received his actual data, it advanced his car's position on the track to the spot where he really was. Am I close?

Wow.. Challenger Daily Race at Big Willow. I'm going to guess, March of 2018?? That was quite awhile ago!

That Porsche is quite addictive to drive. I should not forget to try it on the Nord before the time trial closes. Tokyo has been fun so far. Still no victory but plenty second places from the back, best one yet:

I also managed to improve my best lap time without drafting. Odd split lobby where I had all the room to drive after getting a 5 sec penalty in the backfield massacre.

Such great matchmaking!

I made a little reel of Tokyo pain, so easy to get a penalty.

So hard to gain SR, so easy to lose. DR still going up, SR at 99 but can be back at SR.A in one race.

I love that circuit, which is why I keep banging my head, or front end in this case, against the wall trying to do that race.

That provided me with a full on, out loud, belly laugh.

Rain would only be properly fun if it was intermitent or random and you had to totally react and be tactical about it.

Considering, the fact that if you wanted the 'challenge' you can simulate 'wet weather driving conditions' with tyre choice, it seems the rain here is merely an aesthetical development - a very acomplished one, mind - in which case it feels like a PD vanity project.

Had one last crack at a no-qualy race C before I fly out on vacation and leave my rig at home. Ended up gaining 12 positions on the first lap and staying there to finish 4th. I wish I could say it was all due to my brilliant driving, but it was mostly my ability to not crash and that’s about it. Fun lap to watch though!

I have watched that clip at work many times, so funny

A question about QT; on the first lap, if the sector time is blue, what is that relative to? I am using the car record times. The fastest lap as noted in the car record? (which is what it appears to be). The ghost appears to be the fastest from the car record, and not the fastest overall QT.

thanks in advance, and to all who post, I love this place

one comment about alt account. I set one up just so I can get some race experience for new tracks, braking from start for T1, ect. before racing on primary account. The alt account is looking good, so good that now I care about it as much as the primary. An unexpected outcome...

I have gained a lot from watching mistah_mc's videos on YouTube

Anyone else find the Roadster TC starts losing grip part way through the race? It seems like all I do is get away good on the start only to start dropping back around lap 5. I know tire wear is on but I don't think I go through too much tire.

I just don't know if its me wearing the tires to much or me being to aggressive nearer the end of the race.

Yes!
Funny I mentioned pretty much the same thing here https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/about-to-attempt-online-racing.389078/#post-12824766

I give up, Optimal is down to 51.595 but I can’t cash it in, I’ve been at it for a couple hours now. Here’s the best so far, 51.908. I clipped walls twice during this lap, yet I still can’t beat it somehow? It’s maddening!

Yeah, the tires definitely fall off a bit as the race goes on, you can still maintain lap times for the most part due to the fuel load getting lighter as you go, but you do have to adjust your driving a little bit. I go from BB+1 for around the first 4 laps and then witch to BB0 for the last 4, you have to be a little lighter on the throttle when exiting corners on the last couple laps because it will spin. :)

Short day at work today, and i got home a bit before the wife so i snuck a race in. I normally dont race in the evening but i really wanted to get the bad taste of this morning races out of my mouth....

It wasn't exciting as i walked away to a more than 8sec lead at the finish, but i do feel better lol

Thanks for this @Pigems, I'll try your advice tonight after work (I'm in Aus) :)

I forgot that when you do your first 5 Sport races, you end up at 2000 DR, no matter what. The only thing that changes around is the SR. I thought it worked like the Skill Rating system on Overwatch.

Anyone going to Monterey Car Week? :D

Thanks for this, I was literally doing the opposite and trying to give more front bias at the end to see of it would bite any better on entry and it just wasn't happening (I am very bad with brake bias). Will try it tomorrow 👍
