Remind me why barrier penalties exist again?

In theory: to prevent wall riders gaining an advantage on circuits like Tokyo and the ovals.

In practice: You loose bulk time by slamming into a wall in the first place. To get penalised on top of that is just a giant kick in the nuts :banghead:. But, since no one in PD reads these forums, let alone pays any attention, it's pointless whining about it because nothing will come of it, other than maybe a means of venting .

Aaand this would be why Iwon't touch any tokyo race with a ten foot pole.

GTR tries to pass me at turn 1 on Sardegna, forcing two wide and pushing my car into the barrier. No penalty.

5s penalty for me hitting the barrier.

It's not just you, man. Check out this penalty I got a couple months ago. Ridiculously unnecessary. I don't believe hitting that wall gained me much of an advantage. I was already in last place, too.
By the looks of it, there's a chance I was drinking at the time.

I've never done FIA races and probably never will but I always heard that the penalties are stricter there than in daily races. Is this true? Seems almost impossible to me.
Track limits are strict, so you always need at least two wheels in between the while lines (track limits).
As for collisions... not sure. I haven't done an FIA race since 2018.

I think the harsh wall penalties are PD’s way of saying, IRL, your car would be destroyed and you may be dead right now, feel lucky we’re letting you finish the race.
Yes, but they already have that infuriating feature where if you hit a barrier / get into the grass or dirt your car will just refuse to rev or respond to throttle inputs.

Talk about adding salt to an already insulted injury.

Managed to sneak 2nd place EU in the Trueno @ Fuji tonight!

I still have some left to chip away :sly:👍

Only 1 Race A today. Saw @sturk0167. Was nice to see him take it.

Improved my QT to 2:03.990. Started 5th. Finished 4th. No bonuses but + DR.

On a good streak this week. Mostly due to trying to catch up to people on my friends list. I joke around and say I hate it. But it's the best motivation to keep working on the Q time. And better times have put me in better races.

I found out where the track limits at Sardegna are. I got a 2.5 seconds penalty in the last corner of this week's daily races. I had just started a new qualifying session. Ran all 4 tires onto the blue part of the track next to the rumble strips. Next thing you know, BOOM! Penalty.

Moving onto other flavors of the week, I spent some more time trying to improve my Q time in race B. I cut it down 3 more times. My best is a 1:22.496. That Viper just tears around that track. But put it on the track with 15 other cars & they just can't help but run into it....or run into the car right behind it, sending it rocketing into the nearest available wall. I'll have a video up before the week is over.

so i'd not driven at all this week until last night.. did half a dozen qualy laps at Autopsy before my golf meeting at 8pm - then came home and thought i'd have a go on my US account... i didn't mean to qualify as i wanted to start from the back like @Bivittavus88 but stupidly crossed the finish line without thinking. OK, let's do it then... started P6 with A / A+ ahead of me and all was going great, hooking up the corners nicely and had 5th place easily in my sights....UNTIL....

First race after a couple days. Close finish. Smooth drive by me. Not letting the Supra slide around. Was easy in the braking areas. Also helped not having a car directly behind me most of the race( I started 2nd to last with a few cars choosing to race on the gravel traps over tarmac).

tell me about it... the most annoying part is that i don't even need the cones for this track - just habit to leave them on

Nice long summer break and I'm back to GT, so I figured I'll ease myself in with the rather unusual combination of Japanese cars at Fuji (don't recall ever having seen such a combo before.....).

Pleasantly surprised. Qualifying in the low 2:03s after just a handful of laps, with a victory and two 2nds the reward from 3 races. Happy days, though I think it might be harder next time as those races were all in the "naughty room" (SR was down in the 80s after a few misdemeanors way back when I last raced).

Was surprised and impressed with how clean the racing was up front, although admittedly given the red dots on show in the post race screens, this might not have been the experience further down the field. The final race was a cracker, where myself and another driver were side by side through multiple corners for much of the race, but he defended excellently and I couldn't pass when it counted.

Also, important note to self which I realised after the races. This race does not have a false start check. Remember to release the "stop" button before the lights go green (although it did make things interesting having to battle back after all the terrible starts!).

Enjoy all

Halfway into the race, I get 5 seconds for punting a blocking player on worn tyres. Then, I get 5 seconds for ignoring a yellow flag. Saywhatnow?

The fact that most of you continuously work on their laptimes made me take a day off ( I don't believe it  ) just to have another shot at Fuji. Got a bit nuts in the beginning as a couple of things felt different to my first session, but I finally could improve a bit.
Congrats to @Mr P : Great time and brilliant that you stay in 4th around the non-chicane turn 👍, still haven't managed that without going wide or too slow.

Anybody else noticed a difference in grip levels between Race C Quali, and the race itself?

During quali I'm having to feather the throttle far more than I am in race. I was getting less slides on six lap old mediums, than I was on perfect ones, while hotlapping.

Then again, it could just be that I'm being less aggressive in the race, of course . .

At first I was going to say "well yeh, all the time", but then I read the second paragraph and my brain exploded . Usualy it's the other way around, the races are usually way more slippy than qualy, even in the races with no tyre wear!

Usually, yes.

I do distinctly remember the last Gr.3 race at Maggiore being more grippy in race than quali, though. At the moment, I'm leaning towards just being less aggressive in this week's Daily C, as nobody else has mentioned it.

That... was glorious. The perfect sabotage.

@golfer07840 Did I just see you in an Atenza in race B? Or was that a different golfer?

That was me and that car SUCKED on that track. I thought I'd try something a little heavier that wouldn't be so easy to punt off. Boy was I wrong. I was literally run over at turn 1 and that car isn't nearly as quick off the line as the Porsche, so it was very difficult to make up for lost spots.

Also, for some reason, I found that car to be harder to control coming out of the next to last turn. It kept wanting to snap/oversteer; more so than the R8!

I've never done FIA races and probably never will but I always heard that the penalties are stricter there than in daily races. Is this true? Seems almost impossible to me.

I participated in my very first Manufacturers race last night. I have to say, it was one of the cleanest races I have ever been part of. Didn't seem to be a lot of Penalties given out either. I did see a lot of .05 penalties for barely cutting corners. So the track limits could be much stricter.

The cone physics strike again!!! @wowbaggerBR :lol::lol:

Any ideas if you can tell if you're the lagg one? Cause this guy couldn't.
If you're less than three bars, you'll probably be a bit jittery to other players. If you're one red bar and all the other cars are jittering, it's your connection at fault. They're all smooth to each other and you're jumping around like a squirrel on energy drinks to them.

That infuriates me. Well, not that they have strict limits in FIA.

Why aren't they the same everywhere? Set them all to FIA standards, and remove the option for anything else. Job done.

The game has two sets of track limits. "Championship" and "Standard" (naming might be different, I can't recall). They USED to use the stricter championship limits in all FIA events but this year I think they've used them maybe once or twice. The rest of the time it's been the same track limits as if it's a daily race.

There were a lot of complaints about the stricter limits as it became very easy to get a penalty for a very marginal corner cut. I actually prefer them as the track limits became much more clearly defined. 2 wheels within limits at all times and curbs don't count as the track. I also think that with the standard limits you see a lot of cornering where 2 wheels will be on the grass, which to me looks unrealistic.

It's a shame to me that this setting has seemingly been forgotten about. The standard track limits allow for faster times but what the limits actually are become somewhat of a grey area (see Le Sarthe, Fuji etc).

Other than that I don't believe penalties are any different in FIA races to daily races. The racing tends to be cleaner but you'll see the same BS from time to time.

Thanks for the kind words Joe 👍 for that section I deliberately gear up to 5th for a moment approaching that turn even though it can be done just staying in 4th.. dropping from 5th to 4th helps the car turn in for that section! Good luck with it mate I'm sure it will fall into place
