First A race of the week. Got pole thanks to my decent qt. Lead the first two laps but was off pace a bit as i am still waking up, need more coffee and canabis lol The last two laps were a solid and clean three way (hehe) battle with a trusted friend and an Argentinean i have seen a few times and he has always been solid competition. I ended up in second but dropped to third cuse of stupid track limit penalty in the last section.

Thanks for the kind words Joe 👍 for that section I deliberately gear up to 5th for a moment approaching that turn even though it can be done just staying in 4th.. dropping from 5th to 4th helps the car turn in for that section! Good luck with it mate I'm sure it will fall into place

That's a really useful tip, thanks man. I had watched your replay, but assumed you used 5th simply because you're faster than me and would hit the limiter in 4th. Will have to actually pay attention next time I'm checking out the replays!

The great conundrum.

Some people start as Jedi, with virtue and good intentions.

Some start as Sith, with a by any means necessary mentality.

And some of the Jedi are Anakins. Who unfortunately spend too much time in lobbies filled with the Sith that soon they start to feel that the only way of achieving victory is to give in to the dark side.

It's a choice.

I've found, that the more I race, the more it tends to even itself out - last week at Suzuka I had a P2 and P3 start in lobbies I should have been strong in and got dumped unceremoniously down the order. Then had a race where I started P8/9 and finished 2nd with a CRB.

Trust the force.

Surely Anakin started his path towards the Dark Side because of those dirty pod races. :D

Only 1 Race A today. Saw @sturk0167. Was nice to see him take it.

Improved my QT to 2:03.990. Started 5th. Finished 4th. No bonuses but + DR.

On a good streak this week. Mostly due to trying to catch up to people on my friends list. I joke around and say I hate it. But it's the best motivation to keep working on the Q time. And better times have put me in better races.
Thanks. That was coincidental. It was also the only race I did, yesterday. I got lucky, because I was cruising around in 3rd for the first four laps, watching 1 and 2 duke it out. Then they got a little too rough with each other, allowing me to steal the lead with one lap to go. 👍

It's funny how doing a lot of Q laps teaches you how to get round a track quickly, but does nothing to prepare you for turn 1, on lap 1.
I just kinda guessed where to brake for that first turn, and got it wrong. I ran into somebody, but it wasn't too bad.

Hope to see you out there, again.

so i'd not driven at all this week until last night.. did half a dozen qualy laps at Autopsy before my golf meeting at 8pm - then came home and thought i'd have a go on my US account... i didn't mean to qualify as i wanted to start from the back like @Bivittavus88 but stupidly crossed the finish line without thinking. OK, let's do it then... started P6 with A / A+ ahead of me and all was going great, hooking up the corners nicely and had 5th place easily in my sights....UNTIL....

I don’t play with cones so this is the first time I’ve seen anything like this. Did not disappoint.

So from where I left off yesterday, on the brink of DR C, today the game matched me with mostly DR B drivers for race B.

My QT of 2.22.733 was only good enough for P6,I figured I’d just try to hold on to it for dear life and make it to DR C.

First lap, turn 1, P3, 4 and 5 wipe each other out - it was total carnage. I navigate through the wreckage unscathed, and am gaining on 2nd - right on his tail to the end of lap 1, before I understeer wide on the fast right following turn 1 and have to catch some oversteer.

Pretty lonely race from there to finish 3rd, but I get rank C, and I’m half way to B, courtesy of the chaos that unfolded in the first turn

Maybe B is possible by the end of the week 2? I can dream can’t I. I do wish I had more time to race, mostly get 1 go a night - 2 if I’m lucky. My pregnant wife has been quite demanding, I suppose I’m lucky to get to play at all each night.

During the matching screen before my first race of the week I tend to do a quick you tube search for the daily and watch the start of someone else's race, just to get an idea. All irrelevant though when you get punted straight off track anyway!

“Patiently” waiting for the furniture store to deliver my dining room set then race time. Race A is pretty fun, I use race cars 99.999% of the time so the road cars are a nice change.

I’d like to hit the 2:02s today, I am so close with a 2:03.4

that's a lesson to teach any young children.... 'don't play with cones!':lol:
Eh. Cones are great when you are getting the hang of a track since they provide very visible reference points for braking and turning. Once you get more familiar with the track though, and can transfer your reference points to more static points, it’s nice to turn them off.

Or if you’re racing on Maggiore. Cones are the bane of the track and will guarantee your passage into the shadow realm.

Make sure you’re using the Trueno, it’s got 5 more HP than the Corolla. :)

Well,I have improved, so I will just keep at it.
Hey man, what you've just said about improving, this is what it's all about. GT Sport is a weird game. You can't complete it, you can't win. Even for the very very small proportion of top players who will win a trophy at an event somewhere, someone better will always come along and take away their crown. For the rest of us we just try to keep up and try to improve. We can take pleasure in winning the odd race, or even just performing a great overtake, this keeps us coming back for more :)

Reminds me of lyrics from a Baz Luhrmann song:
"The race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself."

Had some really enjoyable racing this morning. Had the same crowd for the most part all the way through, so trust was there with the top guys. It is amazing how much better the races are when you can trust 3 or 4 or more of the people your racing with. Got the podium in all but one race where my mistakes cost me to much, but i also got a couple wins including this one, not sure where i lost the crb in it though....

I feel slow when I read this thread. One gets almost DR B on the second week, I have been driving since X-mas and are right now D..
I definitely understand what you mean. I've felt that way before. That's exactly why I usually don't post about my race wins, and Q times.

@Illum_Concept, Baz Luhrmann also said this, in that song: "What ever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either.
Your choices are half chance, so are everybody else's."

Harsh, but point taken. The best thing about quotes and song lyrics is you can choose which are life changing statements to live by and which are just their own meandering thoughts.

Didn't mean it like that. I'm sorry. Just adding on to your lyrics. I wasn't trying to make a point about anybody but myself. :guilty: I'm totally cool with everybody doing whatever they want to do. 👍

You guys drive at alien speed too

Keep at it. Even when it feels impossible. Like everything about this game, keep doing it and one day you look back and think how did that happen?

I'm a slow learner. Way below average according to the graph. Took me 100 days to clear DR D. 200 days to clear DR C.

Cheers man, misinterpreted it a bit. I do indeed come on here to brag whenever I've done anything good. Just a shame it doesn't happen more often :boggled:

This is correct. The only time controller was ever allowed at a live event was the Asia Regional Qualifier last year. Otherwise, any of us controller users have to force to adapt on the fly.
All you controller users are mind blowing to me. I know it's just a matter of what you're used to. But almost like if someone landed an airplane with a controller to me.

I think "being slow" is a bit relative depending on your perspective and who you compare to. We use to compare to the best of the best and that is ok as it's an essential part of competition imo.
It doesn't happen often anymore but whenever I needed "sugar" :sly: I told myself to just turn around and change perspective. And what do you see when you turn around ?
You see about 5,000,000 owners of GT Sport, potential drivers, who are way way slower than you and possibly never reach your standard ;) !
So don't you think you've already achieved something ? And yes ... keep at it.

It's all practice and repetition. I've been playing racing games since I was 2-3, so almost 21 years by now. Admittedly, everything I had to learn with this game took a very long time, as when it came out I'd be lapping 2:03's at Nurburgring GP in Gr3 and murdering my tires as per the norm. I didn't learn how to manage tires until about 2 months ago or so.

I know it's kind of an overstated thing, but I think if I can do it, anyone else can. I don't have talent, I have an unhealthy amount of practice LOL

You did awesome for a guy who doesn’t normally use a wheel man! How did you find the change over? Will you be switching permanently now?

I used to land a 747 with keyboard only in Flight Simulator 4. Click click click, tap tap. It is so much easier with a joy stick! Very tricky to land on an aircraft carrier with keyboard! Racing games the same at the time, tap tap tap to steer. There's still at least one person I know that uses the D-pad for GTS.

It's difficult, as it's always been. With every event I go to, I learn a little more and get a little better. I'm never on my prime when I'm on the wheel, though.

I still can't change as I own a T-GT, but my desk is too tall and I'm the stubborn kind of learner where my first experience is how I tend to stick, so I need to have something relatively similar to learn effectively.

Want to get a Playseat Challenge, but money is tight considering I have to save to buy a house. In short: I won't have a setup I like for my wheel for the remainder of the year at least, so these tours will continue to be my practice.

I don't know if anyone likes statistics as much as I do, but for those of us who notice that certain tracks get used way more than others, here's the real track usage data for the daily races. I compile the info from KP. The first daily race he has data on, is June 13th, 2018. From then, until July 28th, 2018 there were 3 new races every day. July 29th was the beginning of the weekly daily races. The number next to the track is how many times it's been used Sport mode races.

36 Suzuka
30 Lago Maggiore
27 Tokyo Expressway
22 Dragon Trail
17 Circuit de la Sarthe
17 Tsukuba
16 Kyoto Driving Park
15 Brands Hatch
15 Fuji (First race was 10/3/2018)
14 Interlagos
12 Nurburgring GP
11 Mount Panorama
10 Blue Moon Bay
10 Monza
10 Nordschleife/N24
9 Willow Springs
8 Alsace Village
7 Autopolis (First race was 3/17/2019)
6 Red Bull Ring (First race was 9/7/2018)
4 Sardegna (First race was 7/7/2019)
3 Barcelona-Catalunya (First race was 11/18/2018)
3 Broad Bean Raceway
2 Goodwood (First race was 6/9/2019)
2 Northern Isle Speedway
1 Circuit de Sainte-Croix (First race was 8/5/2018)
0 Special Stage Route X & all dirt tracks

*Here's the interesting part: Many of the tracks have variations (you could run 8 Maggiore races without using the same variation).
Here's the track usage broken down by it's average per variation.

Top 3:
18 Suzuka
17 Tsukuba
14 Interlagos

Bottom 3:
1.67 Blue Moon Bay
1.5 Broad Bean Raceway
0.167 St Croix

*Sardegna (paved variations) is at .67 because it's the newest. 6 variations/4 races
*Based on the statistical data since the introduction of St Croix, it is 132 times more likely that Suzuka will be used in Sport Mode than St Croix. :odd:

There used to be a game for the Commodore 64 called "Test Drive" you could test drive a Ferrari, a Porsche 911 a Lotus, etc.

I had to use.. ready for it? A JOYSTICK to drive it. And yes, I had to use gas, brake and switch gears with this:

And this is what it looked like on the TV screen, circa 1987:
