Again, a different WRX. Watching it from behind, it's got the handling. I was reeling it in towards the final laps. Had that Genesis covered with acceleration and top speed. Even when I was being extra cautious at a couple of hairpin turns, the Mustang puts the power down loverly.
I abandoned the Mustang, my favourite gr 3/4 car, for the Porsche because I didn't manage to get the speed in the corners. Maybe I should give it a second chance.
Last race I had also had a WRX as winner and another on p6 or 7.

I think the double cones are in a different place during the race than they are in qualifying at Lago Maggiore. They're right before the 100 meter sign in qualifying and right after in the race. Or I'm crazy. Either way, I started using the signs and my laps became a lot more similar to my qualifying times.

Snow Day today! Looks like I’ll get to do some racing. :)

1/2 inch here. Womp womp. I had some high hopes, haha.

And today is a day off for me. Maybe we'll bump into each other in the dailies. Not literally, I don't want to kill my DR/SR.

Funny, I abandoned the Viper early in my time with the game & the Mustang now for similar reasons. But, with a few tweaks by PD & a lot more practice, I've gotten better at driving both of them. Don't abandon your favorites, just learn to speak their language. :sly:

Does every car understeer like crazy at Lago Maggiore or am I just over driving into every corner?

Both. I have complained since day 1 that race cars with racing tires should have more front end grip than what PD simulates. But a more serious answer is to qualify outside of the next race. Meaning choose the qualification only option. As you're clicking off laps, you can push as hard as you want & learn what the cars like through each corner as far as speed, grip, weight transfer, etc. Plus, you can test the brake balance to see if the car can respond more to your liking. In the 2 videos I posted early this morning, I set my Viper for a -2 BB. Under trailbraking, this helps me to get the car to rotate a little. Typically, it's enough to prevent the front tires from understeering & causing me to end up in the sand trap.

Which is funny considering that they make us watch a sportsmanship video

Not exactly making you watch the video. 99% of people opened the video and left the room while it played. /s

I think there should be sportsmanship advice and tips during loading times or while at the countdown screen. It might help in some shape or form for striving towards a more cleaner community. Those introductory videos clearly wasn't enough.

That would be much better than staring at a watch.

Help me out here. Am I right? Is this divebomby and dirty or am I just being butthurt? I'm 2/3 lap away from my first victory and this happens. After getting divebombed T1 by two Brazilians and overtaking them to take back first and holding it for two laps, this happens. :banghead: The way I see it, I didn't leave him an opening to exploit he just rammed me out of the way. This is the type of thing that the penalty system should be for.

Yeah that guy was just being a dick for sure, the worst part is he probably thinks it's legit. Tons of idiots think it's ok to try and stick their nose in during the last milliseconds no matter how low percentage the move is. People who bump and run deserve a very large penalty.

Mine doesn't, but I am making sure to go slow in, later apex.

It might just be me then. I can put in a decent qualifying lap but when it comes to the race it feels like a totally different car.

It's probably me just over driving trying to keep up with the faster cars and not wanting to brake early on entry for fear of being run over...but I could say that about any track.

It just seems like this track is a lot less forgiving if you miss your marks even a little...which is a challenge.

Are you taking into account being in the slipstream? It can alter how the car handles a fair bit in some cases.

I actually did that on Monday. I ran probably 30 qualifying laps with a handful of different cars. My qualifying laps were all between 1:58:3xx and 1:58:5xx. During the actual races...the cars felt totally different..I couldn't get out of my own way and my lap times were two seconds slower.

It's entirely possible that I ran out of talent by the time I started actually racing lol. I'll give it another shot tonight.

That's a valid point that I had not really considered. Thanks.

I hate to break it to you, but there's no such thing as snow. It's a mass hallucination caused by mind control substances used by the Government. The Government is in turn being controlled by evil aliens (otherwise known as Japanese Idol Singers).

Well after the debacle of the other night where I was in P3, spun out on the first lap after 4 corners, dropped to last place, worked my way through the field to P6, then drop to P7 when a car materialised in front of me, then get disconnected just as I was headed to the final corner of the final lap <heavy breathing whilst catching breath>... I decided to give the M6 another crack last night. I wasn't able to improve on my time, and the whole grid looked to be faster, based on the qualy times, I started P4/14.

Since according to PD, the time set with the M6 was my personal best for the track in Gr3, I did a DRWF livery for it, anticipating that it would be the fastest car for me come Saturday morning.

The race starts, we all go screaming off towards T1/2, and somehow I managed to get through OK. I made it past T3 and 4 ok, and this time i managed not to go too fat to the left and touch the grass, so I didn't spin out. Whoohoo! My joy at this achievement was short lived however. I was rudely interrupted by a period of possession. I'm not sure who was driving, bu they were clearly retarded. Instead of the nice smooth turn ins and exits I was getting for qualifying and during my race in the last couple of laps the day before, I was practically parking it on the outside of every corner. I saw my positions steadily drop down to last place. No one was driving dirty, no one knocked me off. They all just quietly slipped by the inside. It was depressing. Then I spun out. My only saving grace was someone else screwed up so I finished P13. SR dropped a couple and DR dropped a lot... to add to the 1k+ that i lost from the disconnect. I just wanted to find a hole to crawl in :(.

So, tonight I did some laps with a car I've never used in the dailies before, The Nissan Mitsubishi Renault R.S.01. I came very close to my qualifying time before the race. When I entered, I had another 12 mins to do some more qualifying laps, and I managed to crack the 2 min time barrier that had eluded me. That had me starting... P4 again. The guy who started P2 last night started P5. As Paris Hilton says "No, practice more.".

The dash for crash into T1/2 went fairly smoothly, although I did see a nose on the inside, but they couldn't make it stick because it placed me on the inside for T2 or the chicane. P4 saw me cut the corner just a hair too much, so 0.5s penalty. I picked up a position just before the esses, but lost it again when I hit the penalty zone on the second lap.

One thing I discovered with the Renault, was that if you got on the inner kerbs fully, and particularly when the white concrete extends past the kerbs, you suddenly loose drive when you plant the throttle. It's like driving in treacle . I saw gaps behind me suddenly shrink and gaps in front of me widen. I keeping off the parts that bogged me down, I closed in on P2. I nearly had him heading into the last few corners, but I bogged at the critical moment. Despite that I got a bit of a surprise :

I really wasn't expecting to see that star . Pretty happy with that result :dopey:. SR back to full, and I got back all the DR I last last night. A bit over 1.1k left to get back what I lost from the disconnect . Another day above DR 1 :p.

I have earned more than a few places by braking a tad early and having a later apex.

I’ve been shifting at 7000rpm with the Supra and that seems a little faster compared to what I did before which was around 7400. Sometimes its better to let the rpms go higher instead of shifting when you are getting close to some corners though.

also using -4 bb atm.

Another reason for this is that you are not driving alone, but with other drivers. You need to manoeuvre between them, make sure not to hit them, adjust your turning line to defend or attack. All of this will affect your time. Only if you start high up the grid and spend most of the race on some distance from others you can expect decent lap times.
Another thing you need to take into account that races are always more emotional than qualifications. If you try too hard you will make mistakes. If you drive too careful, you'll be slower.
Maybe it gets better when you have more experience. I, for one, still get nervous in the races and the amount of mistakes I make (small or otherwise) is higher than in qualifications.

.

If you don’t do the warm up before the race then you can get the abs glitch. Which makes it feel like you are using weak abs settings.

Enjoy this from Lago Maggiore.
This is a very strange penalty.

According to the Jan 9 update notes it should not happen :" Fixed an issue where even very slight contact or collisions were incurring a penalty."

Your race time or individual lap times can pretty much be thrown out the window during the race. As @cosme mentioned, the factors of other drivers, slipstream, etc. all affect your times. It's like putting rolling roadblocks on the track. They accomplish their mission of slowing some people down. One other item to remember, during the race on the opening lap, the tires are simulating a grip level like cold tires on a real car. They won't grip as well during that first lap like they will a couple of laps into a race or stint.

I have earned more than a few places by braking a tad early and having a later apex.

If only I could tell myself that more often. In that race I posted from last night, on the final lap I hit the brakes either at the cones or a slight bit earlier. It gave me 2 bonuses that allowed me to close in on the leader. I was out of his slipstream & I was able to clip the apex very closely. The leader took the later entry & I was able to close in on his back bumper. I think that made him nervous as you see him start to spin coming out of turn 2. He then gets so flustered that he clips the grass & spins off track. Otherwise, he had me covered. He could pull away from me in some sections & it would have been enough to hold on to the win.

I've been avoiding sport mode for the last couple of weeks due to the horror stories about the penalty system. So, when I was awarded the pole position for my 2nd race of the night/week/month/year/decade, I actually felt my hands shaking just a little. Thankfully I use a wheel, so I had somewhere to put those shaky hands & focus on driving. On the DS4, I would have likely spun myself out somewhere.

Enjoy this from Lago Maggiore.
This is a very strange penalty.

If you're also watching the "penalty system is a POS" thread, you'll see that some of our members have figured out the system. With yours, you likely got a penalty for passing another car. Whether it was under the caution flag or due to the messed up system handing out a penalty any time someone passes a car that got involved in some contact is up for debate.

I thought that was only on race C and FIA races. Are cold tires a thing in A and B races too? I normally focus on C races so haven’t noticed.

I've been wondering about something for a while, but just finally remembered to check on it.

Total number of Sport Mode races (all 3 accounts): 2,846.
Total completed races: 2,779.
There have been some disconnects, and some quits.

I even managed a few wins along the way. 👍

To me, that seems like a lot of racing, but @Sven Jurgens and @BenRod are on a whole other level.

I can feel the grip increase in later laps. I suspect that it's hard coded into the game. Most of us feel like we can hang it all out in qualifying, but when the green flag flies, the tires feel like they are coated in motor oil for that first lap.
