Thought sunday night might have been calmer after all the racing last night but it is totally chaotic. Lag jumps from some guys, 3 and 4 wide bombs where the tracks meet on race C. On the whole it is mostly clean but still a bit cutthroat. Had 2 races both going well ruined by crashes. First I tapped a guy gassing it a touch early at the sharp hairpin. Drop from p5 to p14 waiting up, but still get back to p8. Second race I get the mystery touch penalty for 2 seconds while battling for p6, then driving grumpy in p9 after that I slip it wide on a curb and do donuts! Only screwed myself up that time at least. Dropped to the back and pretty much stayed there as it was near the end. Oh well.

Too many GT-Rs out tonight. Lots of banging from them as they struggle in the slow sections or just launch it at the track joins. But I have mostly seen them and dodged, and they have for the most part simply tried to keep it clean despite trying for wild passes.

Last night was a disaster for me.
Started front row and second row in my races.
Tried to go H/M/M. Punted into oblivion within two laps in both races.
Came back on the mediums but pointless.

Haven't used my A+ account since I got a wheel a couple of weeks ago. So been on a new account that I had got up to A+ quite quickly while still on pad but dropped lower and lower into A because of Monza.

Now I'm trying to get used to the wheel and and switching views from chase to bumper, while in low rated lobbies, it has been a real mixed bag. I mean it always has been even at mid A+, but now it's maybe 70/30 split between dirty and clean.

I can barely remember the feeling of caring that it's so dirty because I haven't played at a low level on my main account for years. I feel sorry for the people who are on their main account and do care.

It's a shame that SR 99 means nothing a lot of the time. It's not all the drivers faults. It's a terrible system that people take advantage of. If there was a better system it would be cleaner. Not perfect as humans gonna be humans but it could and should be better even at low DR.

Hi all !

Anyone knows if the effect that happens along several turns in YAMAGIWA, rebound noise and vibrations, it's chatter ?

It usually happens on other tracks corners too with height dips... when suspension is compressed and not forcing the steering, you can hear like a chassis twisting... it's not the understeer effect.

For example, it also occurs in a very noticeable way in Lago Maggiore along the right hander high cambered turn.

Chatter : "In this instance because the tyres are so incredibly grippy and they’re under considerable load, the tyre starts to slide, but then milliseconds later it regains grip before heading into a tiny slide again."

I got SR down in both races last night from drivers diving down the inside in the fast corners and forcing me out wide.
No way they make the corner without me being there, yet I get the SR down and they get no penalty.
Has increased over the last week, which probably means more drivers have caught on to it.

Definitely a GT-R related disease. Had some issues with other drivers, but it seemed to be worn tires a lot. Godzilla drivers were simply firing it away knowing they outweighed everyone else and had the speed to clear away on the straights. Really should have pu ted one clear to the barrier in my last race when I had a chance, but determined to race clean. After the racing I have seen, even when 2 of those guys go at it amongst themselves I feel like they should be given 5 sec penalties at the start simply as a notice of how they seem to drive.

I know some people here have taken that thing out, but except for 1 muppet in an FT1 it has been a GT-R that has caused problems the whole week. I can run names but know this isnt a name and shame place.

On that note, should I just get ruthless and waste them every time or what? Same offenders time and again, same exact excuse after each race, like it is auto cued up. Meaning they either cant learn, or are just being 🤬.

Yeah as time goes on there's more sneaky underhand tricks being learned. I had a very good 4 way battle at Yamagiwa last night and the sad thing was that it felt strange that it was so clean for so long. The guys I was racing felt like heroes to me haha. Then the next race complete chaos.

If you haven't set a QT for Race C yet, run a few of those from the back and avoid people. Each race is worth something like 25 SR.
This was awesome advice, 2 x clean Race C’s and I’m back at SR99 :)

EDIT: Nope, another touch at Alsace and it’s SR down again... from bumper cam I didn’t see him coming across & not enough time to react on radar, looked like they were both heading off track. https://twitter.com/carrera1963/status/1256930265605140482

Back to Race C, start P11, I get punted and an SR down, but clean the rest of the race and finish P4, so overall SR is up for the race.

Next race, same again, P18 to P11, rammed on the final lap & I get an SR down & sent wide to lose a place. Karma wins, in that the guy got a tyre penalty

I think the shorter race A’s just mean there’s No room to recover from a dodgy SR down...

Not my proudest moment but I resorted to punting a couple of Italian GTRs late on last night.

I normally don’t retaliate but being sent from 1st to 20th had me in foul mood by the end of the race.

Me too!! I stopped as soon as I got to A. I didn’t want to chance loosing it :cheers:

Hi, apart from getting into a better lobby to potentially score better points on FIA races, is there any other reason not to race to keep your DR at A?

If you enjoy the racing why not just play, to me it defeats the purpose, I play regardless if I have a winning or losing streak as it's fun. Am I missing something?

I agree. Kind of defeats the purpose to stop racing, unless your goal was to simply reach said DR. Then stop playing the game all together.

Personally, I have certain combos that really suit my driving style. When those come up, I'm likely to climb up and by the end of the week, DR can be anywhere between 35k-45k. But some combos I'm way slower at, I still keep racing, and watch my DR slowly bleed away.

What matters to me, is enjoying the racing and trying to keep it as clean as I can. Currently A/S. looking at the upcoming combos, definitely B/S is on the horizon.

I just quit racing for the day. I had already done 5 or 6 race C’s that day so I was done anyway. I’m still going to race. Now my next goal is A+, if I can get there

You start on the tires you used for Qualifying (by default I believe it’s Hards) so you have to change to Mediums... You can change your start tires before you enter the Qualifying part (change the fronts first) and if you start on Mediums, you have to change at some point during the race to Hards... In the Gr3 race this week, a lot of people are running for example, 3 laps on Mediums, pit and do 3 more laps on new mediums, pit and change for 2 laps on Hards... It depends on your strategy for the race... But yes, when it says HM, it’s mandatory to use both types of race tires and if you don’t, you get a time penalty at the end of the race.

SR should better take into account moving average or cumulative SR, because it's way too easy to 'correct' for a short while. I've run into so many dirty drivers that when you look at their SR history, are clearly different types than those of us that peg it at 99 and stay clean. I don't know why this is so hard for them to fix, but it should be a top priority if they want to grow the game with good people.

Some final fun in this week's Race C, more charging as always, with tougher competition I might add! :dopey:

Started 12th, pushed and pushed on the usual 2 stop strat of H/M/M........In 2nd place with a few corners to go, could I win it....Watch to find out...

Next week:

Race A: N100 @ Tsukuba, 5 laps, SH
Race B: Gr.3 @ Maggiore GP, 4 laps, RH
Race C: Gr.X One-Make @ Laguna Seca, 15 laps, RM/RH, Fuel x5, Tires x10
Is it bad that I'm looking forward to Tsukuba?

Not the biggest fan of the track. But have to admit the races there are always top quality for me.

I believe I've improved/learned more about racing online at Tsukuba than any other track in this game. Especially traffic awareness, gear selection, throttle control and basic weight transfer.

If I were to go back in time to when I started online. I would tell myself to start at Tsukuba. And run it as if it were a follow the leader exercise more than a race for 1st. I feel that would have been the quickest way for me to get used to racing online with others.

Love Tsukuba. Good car to get a handle on driving GTS is the 2000gt Toyota. Leave it stock, sport hard tire and drive Suzuka too...
I think it’s good advice for anyone new to the game also, on top of what you said.
My first race was Tsukuba n100. Karts there are always fun too.

Race C was fun last night. I decided to switch from the RSR to the Beetle, yep it’s faster and more consistent.

Started with a few very tough rooms, Q times from 2:15-16. Started P20 and managed 7th in both races doing a 1 stop, which was satisfying. 4H4M. Tough clean racing.

Decided to do a 3rd before switching to main, but most of the A’s left and room Q times dropped to mid 15’s-18’s so I opted to stay on Alt. Managed 3x3rd and 1x4th from P19-20 on the same 1 stop strategy.

I've had some great races at both B and C this week. B is a bit of a crap shoot but can be lots of fun. Had an awesome night on C two days ago, STACKED room with almost entirely A+/S and a lowest Q time of 2:16 and I was starting P19-20 on my Alt for fun. Made my way up into the top 10 but knew going in that top 10 was my goal at best. Very clean group and some fantastic racing. Coming from the back is great fun in that type of room, you're under constant pressure from front/back, love it.

Here's a quick vid for race B so far. Gotta do one for C still.

“Raced you” (better said, watch you fly pass me) in a few races last night in Race C... I was trying several different tire strategies and ended up with a 4H and 4M (which I guessed you were doing) and finally finished a race in the podium!

I noticed you were doing the 2 stop which cost you track position, you cane out in fresh rubber and we’re right on me!

I initially was doing the 2 stop a few days ago as well, you lose so much track position though that the fresh tires end up being wasted. I would come out right behind guys on old tires like you did behind me, costs too much time.

It was a fun room though, some really tough racing too, you had me under a lot of pressure on the fresher tires. I had to ramp up my pace. Great racing!

Thanks!!! Yes... The challenge was track position, if I exit the pits with fresh tires, but behind either a pack of cars or someone with decent pace in their used tires, I couldn’t take advantage of them... I even tried 1H, 3M, 4M to see if I could somehow be out of sync with the rest of the field and have some free air to put a couple of good laps together... But, my pace was all over the place, I got a fast lap on one race with a 1:17.7 which was cool, but the next race my best lap would be in the 1:19’s

Got a couple of very weird penalties, too... Got 3 seconds for passing during a yellow flag (first time it happens to me and can’t even remember passing anyone, still wondering what happened) and one for “going through a ghost”, which I guess it was just bad timing, since I was very close when the car with the penalty crossed the penalty line.

Had a lot of fun last night, I was trying to keep up with you and noticed a couple of things... Your exit out of the left turn after the first hairpin is awesome, I would lose easily half a second in that turn when I was following you... Guess I need a little more practice :)

Had a TERRIBLE 3-hour run of Race C tonight. Instead of joining the GTR army, I stuck it out with the Mustang and could only muster a 2:17 quali time, which meant I started anywhere between 10-15th on the B/S Asia rooms. Had an unlucky run of being punted and making mistakes, finishing last or 2nd last for most races. I apologised to some Japanese players for contact which ruined their races. Even got attacked by an Aussie who had a terrible race and took it out on me when i brushed him due to understeer on the long left sweeper in the 2nd sector. He took me out twice in that remaining lap in retaliation because thought I did it on purpose.

I just couldn't make the Mustang work and lost 4k DR. I went for 2H-3M-3M, but by the last lap, the front right was always shredded, leading to severe understeer in the long left sweepers and the left hairpin, where I lost a ton of places on the last lap, despite making my way up to 7th or 8th. After watching the replays, I noticed the 911s that pitted on the same laps as I did had much more front tyres left.

I switched to the 911 and just wanted one more go to finish on a high and go to bed. One race became two. Two became three. On the third race in the 911 (sixth race overall tonight), I finally worked my way up to 5th from starting 12th. In the final lap, I caught up to 3rd and 4th, who were trading paint and penalties. On the back straight, they took each other out in the braking zone, and I sailed past, smiling at the thought of my podium. Then I caught up to 1st and 2nd, right when 1st slammed 2nd into oblivion at the back left hairpin. What's with these guys??? I was gifted 2nd place, about 5 seconds behind 1st, one of my best finishes in recent memory and gained 1.3k DR back in one race.

It's really true: When in doubt, just dial 911.

I’ve had one of those crazy yellow flag penalties during the warm up but never in race, not exactly sure how it gets triggered. I’ve always ignored yellow flags......ignore is the wrong word, I anticipate but don’t slow down.

For the left hander I actually just found that extra speed last night while battling, I found taking it in 2nd gives me a tighter line and earlier accel. That’s another reason I like the Alt, I can practice overtaking maneuvers and find new lines. It’s a never ending learning process though, especially when we study each other here on the forum. This is a giant melting pot of styles and we can all take little ideas from one another :)

Last 2 runs in Race C for this week, as ever starting way down. better that way, more fun charging back through. The competition is starting to get harder though, thank goodness!

2 last lap nail biters again lol!
